  • This paper introduces a $L_{\infty}$-gain state feedback fuzzy controller design for the time delay nonlinear system represented by Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy model. First, the T-S fuzzy model is employed to represent the time delay nonlinear system. Next based on the fuzzy model, a fuzzy state feedback controller is developed to achieve $L_{\infty}$-gain performance. Finally, sufficient conditions are derived for $L_{\infty}$-gain performance. The sufficient conditions are formulated in the format of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The effectiveness of the proposed controller design methonology is finally demonstrated through numerical simulations.

  • In this study, we propose a novel method for modeling dynamic hysteresis. Hysteresis is a widespread phenomenon that is observed in many physical systems. Many different models have been developed for representing a hysteretic system. Among them, the Duhem model is a classical nonlinear dynamic hysteresis model satisfying the properties of hysteresis. The purpose of this work is to develop a novel method that expresses the local dynamics of the Duhem model by a linear system model. Our approach utilizes a certain type of fuzzy system that is based on Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy models. The proposed T-S fuzzy Duhem model is achieved by fuzzy blending of the linear system model. A simulated example applied to shape memory alloy actuators, which have typical hysteretic properties, illustrates the applicability of our proposed scheme.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy-model-based design approach to the buoyancy and moment controls of a class of nonlinear underwater glider. Through the linearization and the sector nonlinearity methodologies, the underwater glider dynamics is represented by a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. Sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system in the format of linear matrix inequality (LMI). Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed buoyancy and moment controllers for the underwater glider.

  • In this paper, a new model, which is a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model, for mobile robot is presented. A controller, consisting of two loops the one of which is the inner state feedback loop designed for stability and the outer loop is a PI controller designed for tracking the reference input, is suggested. Because the robot dynamics is nonlinear, it requires the controller to be insensitive to the nonlinear term. To achieve this objective, the model is developed by well known T-S fuzzy model. The design algorithm of inner state-feedback loop is regional pole-placement. In this paper, regions, for which poles of the inner state feedback loop are lie in, are formulated by LMI's. By solving these LMI's, we can obtain the state feedback gains for T-S fuzzy system. And this paper shows that the PI controller is equivalent to the state feedback and the cost function for reference tracking is equivalent to the LQ(linear quadratic) cost. By using these properties, it is also shown in this paper that the PI controller can be obtained by solving the LQ problem.

  • This paper deals with the observer-based decentralized fuzzy controller design for nonlinear interconnected system for PEMFC. The nonlinear interconnected system is represented by a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. Based on T-S fuzzy interconnected system, the fuzzy observer and the decentralized fuzzy controller are designed. The stability condition of the closed-loop system with the proposed controller is represented to the linear matrix inequality (LMI) form, and the observer and control gain s are obtained by LMI. An example is given to show the verification discussed throughout the paper.

  • This paper presents Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy-model-based controller for depth control of autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs). Through sector nonlinearity methodology, The nonlinear AUV is represented by T-S fuzzy model. By using the Lyapunov function, the design condition of controller is derived to guarantee the performance of depth control in the format of linear matrix inequality (LMI). • In this study, the second-order Nomoto's nonlinear expansion model was implemented as a Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model based on the heading angular velocity to design the automatic steering system of a ship considering nonlinear elements. A Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy PID controller was designed using the applied fuzzy membership functions from the Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model. The linear models and fuzzy membership functions of each operating point of a given nonlinear expansion model were simultaneously tuned using a genetic algorithm. It was confirmed that the implemented Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model could accurately describe the given nonlinear expansion model through the Zig-Zag experiment. The optimal parameters of the sub-PID controller for each operating point of the Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model were searched using a genetic algorithm. The evaluation function for searching the optimal parameters considered the route extension due to course deviation and the resistance component of the ship by steering. By adding a penalty function to the evaluation function, the performance of the automatic steering system of the ship could be evaluated to track the set course without overshooting when changing the course. It was confirmed that the sub-PID controller for each operating point followed the set course to minimize the evaluation function without overshoot when changing the course. The outputs of the tuned sub-PID controllers were combined in a weighted average method using the membership functions of the Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model. The proposed Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy PID controller was applied to the second-order Nomoto's nonlinear expansion model. As a result of examining the transient response characteristics for the set course change, it was confirmed that the set course tracking was satisfactorily performed.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust indirect adaptive fuzzy state feedback regulator based on Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model. The proposed adaptive fuzzy regulator is less sensitive to singularity than the conventional one based on the feedback linearization method. Furthermore, the proposed control method is applicable to not only plants with a perfect model but also plants with an imperfect model, which causes uncertainties. We verify the global stability of the proposed method by using Lyapunov method. In order to support the achievement, the application of the proposed adaptive fuzzy regulator to the control of a nonlinear system under the external disturbance is presented and the performance was verified by some simulation result.

  • This paper presents a design method of delay-dependent control for T-S fuzzy systems with time delays. Based on parallel distributed compensation (PDC) and a descriptor model transformation of the system, a delay-dependent control is utilized. An appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional is chosen for delay-dependent stability analysis. A sufficient condition for delay-dependent control is represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).
