A Study on Ontology and Topic Modeling-based Multi-dimensional Knowledge Map Services (온톨로지와 토픽모델링 기반 다차원 연계 지식맵 서비스 연구)

  • Knowledge map is widely used to represent knowledge in many domains. This paper presents a method of integrating the national R&D data and assists of users to navigate the integrated data via using a knowledge map service. The knowledge map service is built by using a lightweight ontology and a topic modeling method. The national R&D data is integrated with the research project as its center, i.e., the other R&D data such as research papers, patents, and reports are connected with the research project as its outputs. The lightweight ontology is used to represent the simple relationships between the integrated data such as project-outputs relationships, document-author relationships, and document-topic relationships. Knowledge map enables us to infer further relationships such as co-author and co-topic relationships. To extract the relationships between the integrated data, a Relational Data-to-Triples transformer is implemented. Also, a topic modeling approach is introduced to extract the document-topic relationships. A triple store is used to manage and process the ontology data while preserving the network characteristics of knowledge map service. Knowledge map can be divided into two types: one is a knowledge map used in the area of knowledge management to store, manage and process the organizations' data as knowledge, the other is a knowledge map for analyzing and representing knowledge extracted from the science & technology documents. This research focuses on the latter one. In this research, a knowledge map service is introduced for integrating the national R&D data obtained from National Digital Science Library (NDSL) and National Science & Technology Information Service (NTIS), which are two major repository and service of national R&D data servicing in Korea. A lightweight ontology is used to design and build a knowledge map. Using the lightweight ontology enables us to represent and process knowledge as a simple network and it fits in with the knowledge navigation and visualization characteristics of the knowledge map. The lightweight ontology is used to represent the entities and their relationships in the knowledge maps, and an ontology repository is created to store and process the ontology. In the ontologies, researchers are implicitly connected by the national R&D data as the author relationships and the performer relationships. A knowledge map for displaying researchers' network is created, and the researchers' network is created by the co-authoring relationships of the national R&D documents and the co-participation relationships of the national R&D projects. To sum up, a knowledge map-service system based on topic modeling and ontology is introduced for processing knowledge about the national R&D data such as research projects, papers, patent, project reports, and Global Trends Briefing (GTB) data. The system has goals 1) to integrate the national R&D data obtained from NDSL and NTIS, 2) to provide a semantic & topic based information search on the integrated data, and 3) to provide a knowledge map services based on the semantic analysis and knowledge processing. The S&T information such as research papers, research reports, patents and GTB are daily updated from NDSL, and the R&D projects information including their participants and output information are updated from the NTIS. The S&T information and the national R&D information are obtained and integrated to the integrated database. Knowledge base is constructed by transforming the relational data into triples referencing R&D ontology. In addition, a topic modeling method is employed to extract the relationships between the S&T documents and topic keyword/s representing the documents. The topic modeling approach enables us to extract the relationships and topic keyword/s based on the semantics, not based on the simple keyword/s. Lastly, we show an experiment on the construction of the integrated knowledge base using the lightweight ontology and topic modeling, and the knowledge map services created based on the knowledge base are also introduced.

Numerical Modeling for the Detection of Debris Flow Using Detailed Soil Map and GIS (정밀토양도와 GIS를 이용한 토석류 발생지역 예측 분석)

  • This study presents the prediction methodology of debris flow occurrence areas using the SINMAP model. Former studies used a single calibration region applying some of the soil test results to predict debris flow occurrence in SINMAP model, which couldn't subdivide the soil properties for the target areas. On the other hands, a multi-calibration region using a detailed soil map and soil strength parameters (c, ${\phi}$) for each soil series to make up for limitation of former studies is proposed. In this process, soils with soil erodibility factor (K) are classified into three types: 1) gravel and gravelly soil. 2) sand and sandy soil, and 3) silt and clay. In addition, T/R estimation method using mean elevation of target area instead of T/R method using actual occurrence time is suggested in this study. The suggested method is applied to Seobyeok-1 ri area, Bonghwa-gun where debris flow occurred. As a result of comparison between two T/R estimation method, both T/R estimations are almost equal. Therefore, the suggested methodologies in this study will contribute to set up the national-wide mitigation plan against debris flow occurrence.

Neuroprotective Effects of Korean Kiwifruit against t-BHP-induced Cell Damage in PC12 Cells (국내산 참다래 추출물의 신경독성 방어효과)

  • Oxidative stress induced by reactive oxygen intermediates has been implicated in a variety of human diseases including neurodegenerative disorders, cancer, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and mode of action of environmental toxicants. Tert-butylhydroperoxide (t-BHP) is an organic lipid hydroperoxide analogue, which is commonly used as a pro-oxidant for evaluating mechanisms involving oxidative stress in cells and tissues. In this study, the underlying mechanisms involved in the protective effects of Hwabuk 94 kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa cv. 'Hwabuk 94'), which is cultivated in Jeju, on the t-BHP-induced cytotoxicity in PC12 cell. The pretreatment of rat pheochromocytoma cell line PC12 with Hwabuk 94 extract ($1-100\;{\mu}g/ml$) resulted in a significant recovery from t-BHP-induced cell death and increased Bcl-2 and procaspase-3 expression, whereas the expression of Bax and cleaved PARP were decreased in a dose-dependent manner compared to the control. Furthermore, Hwabuk 94 inhibited the t-BHP-induced p38 MAP kinase and extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2, but not c-Jun N-terminal kinase activations. Finally, these findings suggest that Hwabuk 94 kiwifruit might attenuate t-BHP-induced PC12 cell cytotoxicity, at least in part, through the inhibition of signaling pathways mediated by the ERK1/2 and p38 MAP kinase.

We denote by .PHI. (n, a, k, X) the family of all such maps. In [3], [4], K. Goebel and M. Koter obtained results concerning the existence of fixed points of T depending on k, a and n. In the present paper, the main results of [3], [4] are so strengthened that some information concerning the geometric estimations of fixed points are given.

  • Suppose C is a nonempty closed convex subset of a real uniformly convex Banach space X. Let T : $C{\rightarrow}C$ be an asymptotically nonexpansive in the intermediate sense mapping. In this paper we introduced the three-step iterative sequence for such map with error members. Moreover, we prove that, if T is completely continuous then the our iterative sequence converges strongly to a fixed point of T.

We determine the formula for variance function under boolean multiplicative convolution power. This formula is used to identify the relation between variance functions under the map ${\nu}{\mapsto}{\mathbb{M}}_t({\nu})=({\nu}^{{\boxtimes}(t+1)})^{{\uplus}{\frac{1}{t+1}}}$ from ��+ onto itself.

The Effect of High School Earth Science Instruction Using Mind Map (마인드 맵을 활용한 고등학교 지구과학 수업의 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect that using mind map instruction has on the students' scientific inquiry skill and science-related attitudes in 11th grade in the earth science instruction. The objects of this study were consisted of two classes with 11th graders at K public high school in Kimhea city. The experimental group using mind map was lessoned 2 hours a week for 10 weeks. On the other hand, the controlled group was traditionally taught. Each group was consisted of 34 students. Student's science inquiry skills and science-related attitudes were assessed in pre-test, and then each group was instructed. The post-test was conducted after the instruction. Findings were as follows: First, As for the scientific inquiry skill, the result revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups. This finding means that the mind map instruction was more effectiveto improve students' scientific inquiry skills. Second, Regarding the science-related attitudes, the t-test analysis showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups. This result implies that the mind map instruction was more effective in promoting students' attitudes toward science. In conclusion, the earth science instruction using mind map showed more effectiveness on the high school students' improvement of their science inquiry skills and science-related attitudes.

Automatic Generation of Character-Specific Roadmaps for Path Planning in Computer Games (컴퓨터 게임에서의 경로 계획을 위한 캐릭터별 로드맵의 자동 생성)

  • Path planning is gaining more weight in computer games and virtual reality as the number of self-moving characters increases. In the roadmap approach, the map of possible paths is built in advance to plan paths for a character, whose advantage is to provide high-quality paths. On the other hand, a disadvantage is that the road map doesn't reflect properties of characters such as their sizes because they move on the same map once the road map is constructed. In this paper we propose an efficient method to build a different road map for each character so that it can use its own map for path-planning. This method is efficient because the whole map is built once by applying the Visibility Graph regardless of the number of characters and walkable paths are incrementally inserted according to the sizes of characters. The effects of using separate roadmaps are demonstrated through simulations and the trade-offs accompanied with these effects are analyzed.
