  • The closed loop identification(CLID) is a very useful method for on-line applications since it can identify the plant in the closed-loop system composed of the plant and the controller. There are some literatures on CLID, but they and mainly focused on SISO(Single-Input/Single-Output) problem. In this paper, a CLID method is proposed for MIMO(Multi-Input/Multi-Output) systems. The CLID method is applied to a MIMO benchmark plant, TRMS(Twin-Rotor MIMO System). To illustrate the performance of the closed-loop system identification., unit step responses in the TRMS are represented and compared with the open-loop identification via some simulation.

  • A structural monitoring system based on cheap and wireless monitoring system is investigated in this paper. Due to low-cost and low power consumption, micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) is suitable for wireless monitoring and the use of MEMS and wireless communication can reduce system cost and simplify the installation for structural health monitoring. For system identification using wireless MEMS, a finite element (FE) model updating method through correlation with the initial analytical model of the structure to the measured one is used. The system identification using wireless MEMS is evaluated experimentally using a three storey frame model. Identification results are compared to ones using data measured from traditional accelerometers and results indicate that the system identification using wireless MEMS estimates system parameters with reasonable accuracy. Another smart sensor considered in this paper for structural health monitoring is Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) which is a type of piezoelectric material. PZT patches have been applied for the health monitoring of structures owing to their simultaneous sensing/actuating capability. In this paper, the system identification for building structures by using PZT patches functioning as sensor only is presented. The FE model updating method is applied with the experimental data obtained using PZT patches, and the results are compared to ones obtained using wireless MEMS system. Results indicate that sensing by PZT patches yields reliable system identification results even though limited information is available.

  • In this paper, we propose a new diagnosis method of DC/DC converter aging. The method is based on variations of the parasitic resistor for the aging process. We apply an on-line diagnosis of the DC/DC converter because the observation is not a device, but a system. This study proposes a method of DC/DC converter diagnosis by analyzing the variations of model on the variations of parasitic resistor.

  • In this paper, a new identification method of the cascade control system is proposed which can overcome the weak points of Krishnaswamy and Rangaiah(1987)'s method. This new method consists of two steps. One is on-line process identification using the numerical integration to approximate the two process dynamics with a high order linear transfer function. The other is a model reduction technique to derive out low order transfer function(FOPTD or SOPTD) from the obtained high order linear transfer function to tune the controller using usual tuning rules. While the proposed method preserves the advantages of the Krishnaswamy and Rangaiah(1987)'s method, it has such a simplicity that it requires only measured input and output data and simple least-squares technique. Simulation results show that the proposed method can be a promising alternative in the identification of cascade control systems.

  • In order to control seismic responses of building structures effectively and stably, it is very important to estimate the dynamic characteristics of target structure exactly based on input-output signal data. In this paper, it is shown that Subspace Identification Method is able to be applied effectively to system identification of building structures. To verify the efficiency of Subspace Identification Method, the vibration experiments were conducted on a specimen structure which is a 5-storied building structure model consisted of H-shaped steel beam, and the simulated seismic responses of the identified structure model were compared with the observed ones under the same excitation. It was observed that the experimental results coincided with the analyzed ones proposed in this paper.

  • In this paper, we introduce an identification method in Fuzzy Relation-based Fuzzy Neural Networks (FRFNN) through a hybrid identification algorithm. The proposed FRFNN modeling implement system structure and parameter identification in the efficient form of "If...., then... " statements, and exploit the theory of system optimization and fuzzy rules. The FRFNN modeling and identification environment realizes parameter identification through a synergistic usage of genetic optimization and complex search method. The hybrid identification algorithm is carried out by combining both genetic optimization and the improved complex method in order to guarantee both global optimization and local convergence. An aggregate objective function with a weighting factor is introduced to achieve a sound balance between approximation and generalization of the model. The proposed model is experimented with using two nonlinear data. The obtained experimental results reveal that the proposed networks exhibit high accuracy and generalization capabilities in comparison to other models.er models.

  • In this paper, we propose an effective on-line identification method for rotor resistance, which is useful in making speed control of induction motors without rotational transducers robust with respect to the variation in rotor resistance. Our identification method for rotor resistance is based on the linearly perturbed equations of the closed-loop system for sensorless speed control about th operating point. Our identification method for rotor resistance uses only the information of stator currents and voltages. In can provide fairly good identification accuracy regardless of load conditions. Some experimental results are presented to demonstrate the practical use of our identification method. For our experimental work, we have built a sensorless control system, in which all algorithms are implemented on a DSP. Our experimental results confirm that our on-line identification method allows for high precision speed control of commercially available induction motors without rotational transducers.

  • Recently, machine olfactory systems that have been proposed as an artificial substitute of the human olfactory system are being studied by many researchers because they can scent dangerous gases and identify the type of gases in contamination areas instead of the human. In this paper, we present an effective design method for the gas identification system. The design method adopted the sequential combination between genetic algorithms and TSK fuzzy logic system. First, the proposed method allowed the designed gas identification system effectively performing the pattern analysis because it was able to avoid the curse of dimensionality caused by use of a large number of sensors. Secondly, the method led the gas identification system to good performance because it was able to deal with drift characteristics of the sensor data by using description ability of the fuzzy system for nonlinear data. In simulation, we demonstrated the effectiveness of the designed gas identification system by using the simulation results of five types of gases.

  • This paper deals with the AR Identification of unknown system using cumulant, which is the 3rd order statistics of output signal in the presence of the noise signal. The algorithms for identification of unknown system we applies to the AR identification method using the cumulant which is possible to the guarantees of global convergence and the representation of amplitude and phase information of system among with the method of parametric modeling. In the process of identification, we considered unknown system to the one of AR system. After the generation of input signal, it was being passed through the system then We use the its output signal that the noise is added. As a result of identification of AR system by changing the signal to noise ratio, we get the fairly good results compared to original system output values and confirmed that the pole was located in the unit circle of z transform.

  • In the view point of practical engineering the identification problem may be considered as a problem to determine the optimal model in the sense of minimizing a given criterion function using the input-output records of the plant. In the system identification the statistical approach has been known to be very effective when the topological structure of the system and the statistical characteristics of the observation noises are known a priori. But in the practical situation there are many cases when the inforhation about the observation noises or the system noises are not available a priori. Here, the authors propose a new identification method which can be used effectively even in the cases when the variances of observation noises are unknown a priori. In the method, the identification of unknown parameters of a linear diserete system is achieved by minimizing the improved quadratic criterion function which is composed of the term of square equation errors and the term to eliminate the affection of observation noises. The method also gives the estimate of noise variance. Numerical computations for several examples show that the proposed procedure gives satisfactory results even when the short time observation data are provided.
