Syndiotactic Polymerization of Amino-functionalized Styrenes Using (Pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)titanatrane/MMAO Catalyst System

  • A set of unprecedented syndiospecific dimethyl- and diethylamino-functionalized polystyrenes was prepared by catalytically polymerizing the corresponding monomers using (pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)titanatrane/MMAO catalytic system. Dialkylamino-functionalized styrene monomers were synthesized by Wittig reaction from the corresponding aldehyde in high yield. The resulting polymers are soluble in polar organic solvents such as THF and show good thermal stability. The chemical transformation of the syndiospecific poly(4-diethylaminostyrene) also gave new polar polymers, namely syndiotactic poly(4-diethylaminostyrene hydrochloride), which is unattainable by traditional synthetic methods.

  • A simulation study on synthesis gas process in GTL process was carried out in order to find optimum operation conditions for GTL (gas-to-liquid) pilot plant design. Optimum operating conditions for synthesis gas process were determined by changing reaction variables such as feed temperature and pressure. During the simulation, overall synthesis process was assumed to proceed under steady-state conditions. It was also assumed that physical properties of reaction medium were governed by RKS (Redlich-Kwong-Soave) equation. The effect of temperature and pressure on synthesis gas process $H_2$/CO ratio were mainly examined. Simulation results were also compared to experimental results to confirm the reliability of simulation model. Simulation results were reasonably well matched with experimental results.

초기단계 함정설계시 설계영역탐색의 효과적 적용 (Effective Application of Design Space Exploration in the Very Early Naval Ship Design)

  • The early-phase naval ship design demands requirements synthesis rather than design synthesis, which conducts engineering design for several domains on a detailed level. Requirements synthesis focuses on creating a balanced set of required operational capabilities satisfying user's needs and concept of operations. Requirements are evolved from capability based languages to function based language by statistical exploration and engineering design which are derived in the following order: concept alternative, concept baseline, initial baseline and functional baseline. The early-phase naval ship design process can be divided into three passes: concept definition, concept exploration and concept development. Main activities and outcomes in each pass are shortly presented. Concept definition is the first important step that produces a concept baseline through extensive design space exploration promptly. Design space exploration applies a statistical approach to explore design trends of existing ships and produce feasible design range corresponding to concept alternative. It further helps naval systems engineers and operational researchers by inducing useful responses to user and stakeholders' questions at a sufficient degree of confidence and success in the very early ship design. The focus of this paper is on the flow of design space exploration, and its application to a high-speed patrol craft. 전달특성을 이용한 소음원 규명과 입력요소 변경에 의한 실내소음 저감 (The Source Identification of Noise Using Characteristics of Transmission and the Reduction of Interior Noise for Changing the Input Factor)

  • The structure has several types of noise and booming noise of a vehicle is usually caused by the vibration of the vehicle's body transmitted from the engine through the mounting system. Vector synthesis analysis is performed to predict the booming noise when the characteristic of the engine mounting system is changed., i.e., when magnitudes and phases of vibratory forces after the mounts are altered. To use this method effectively, the concept of Multi-dimensional-analysis and Experimental Design are introduced to identify the contributions of each vibration sources and transmission paths to interior noise. It was used 3inputs/1output system and found the magnitudes and phases of the forces for minimizing the noise. Finally, the synthesized interior booming noise level is predicted by the vector synthesis diagram. It is shown that the vector synthesis method can be used to obtain the optimum design characteristic of the mounting system to control the interior booming noise of a vehicle.

큐브위성 STEP Cube Lab.의 지상국 시스템 개발 (Design of Ground Station System for CubeSat STEP Cube Lab.)

  • The CubeSats is classified as a pico-class satellite which requires a ground station to track the satellite, transmit commands, and receive an on-orbit data such as SOH (State-of-Health) and mission data according to the operation plan. In order to this, the ground station system has to be properly designed to perform a communication to with the satellite with enough up- and down-link budgets. In this study, a conceptual design of the ground station has been performed for the CubeSat named as STEP Cube Lab. (Cube Laboratory for Space Technology Experimental Project). The paper includes a ground station hardware interface design, a link budget analysis and a ground station software realization. In addition, the operation plan of the ground station has been established considering the STEP Cube Lab. mission requirements.

Synthesis of 5,6-Dihydro[1,10]phenanthroline Derivatives and Their Properties as Hole-Blocking Layer Materials for Phosphorescent Organic Light-Emitting Diodes

  • To develop new hole-blocking materials for phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PhOLEDs), 5,6-dihydro-2,9-diisopropyl-4,7-diphenyl[1,10]phenanthroline (1) and 5,6-dihydro-2,9-diisopropyl-4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-7-phenyl[1,10]phenanthroline (2) were synthesized. While the absorption spectrum of 1 is very similar to that of 2, the photoluminescence spectrum of 1 has the feature of the narrower and blue-shifted blueviolet emission at the peak of 356 nm compared to that of 2. The HOMO and LUMO energy levels of 1 and 2 were estimated from the measurement of cyclic voltammetry, and 1 has the appropriate levels for a holeblocking layer (HBL). The use of 1 as a HBL in a green PhOLED led to good efficiency of 23.6 cd/A at 4.4 mA/$cm^2$.

  • The design of injection molded polymeric parts has been done empirically, since it requires profound knowledge about the moldability and causal effects on the properties of the part, which are not available to designers through current CAD systems. An interactive computer-based design system is developed in order to realize the concept of rational design for the productivity and quality of mold making. The knowledge-based CAD system is constructed by adding the knowledge-base module for mold feature synthesis and appropriate CAE programs for mold design analysis in order to provide designers, at the initial design stage, with comprehensive process knowledge for feature synthesis performance analysis and feature-based geometric modeling. A knowledge-based CAD system is a new tool which enables the concurrent design with integrated and balanced design decisions at the initial design stage of injection molding.

  • By the state transformation including independent outputs functions, a nonlinear process model can be decomposed into two subsystems; the one(design model) is described in output variables as new states and used for control system synthesis and the other(disturbance model) is described in the original unavailable states and its couplings with the design model are treated as uncertain time-varying parameters in the design model. Its existence with respect to the design model is ignored. So, the design model is and uncertain time-variant system. Control synthesis based on a reduced design model is a combined form of a time-variant input-output linearization with parameter estimation. The parameter estimation is also based on the design model and it gives the parameter estimates such that the estimated outputs follow the actual outputs in a specified way. The disturbances form disturbance model and as well all the other uncertainties affecting the outputs will be reflected into the estimated parameters used in the linearizing control law.

  • This paper proposes the simulator synthesis scheme which is based on the exploration of the total design space in attributed AND-OR graph. Attributed AND-OR graph is a systematic design space representation formalism which enables to represent all the design space by decomposition rule and specialization rule. In addition, attributes attached to the design entity provides flexible modeling. Based on this design space representation scheme, a pruning algorithm which can transform the total design space into sub-design space that satisfies the user requirements is given. We have shown the effectiveness of our framework by (ⅰ) constructing the design space of superscalar processor in attributed AND-OR graph (ⅱ) pruning it to obtain the ARM9 processor architecture. (ⅲ) modeling the components of the architecture and (ⅳ) simulating the ARM9 model.

분포정수 회로합성을 이용한 RF 전력 증폭기 설계 (Design of a RF power amplifier using distributed network syntheses)

  • 본 논문에서는 전력 증폭기 설계에 유용한 분포정수 임피던스 정합회로의 합성법을 제시하고, 이에 의하여 RF 전력 증폭기를 설계하였다. 분포정수 정합회로의 전달함수는 Chebyshev 근사에 의하여 유도되며, 주어진 구조의 회로 소자 값은 최소 삽입손실과 리플의 함수로 주어진다. 이의 응용 예로써 전력 트랜지스터를 로드 풀(load-pull) 데이터로 모델링한 다음, 정합회로 합성을 이용하여 200~900MHz의 대역에서 17dB의 이득 및 20W의 출력 전력에서 -43dBc 이하의 IM3을 갖는 전력 증폭기를 설계하였다. 제작된 증폭기는 주어진 대역에서 설계치에 근접하는 특성을 나타내어 전달함수에 의한 분포정수 정합회로의 합성이 RF 전력 증폭기의 설계에 유용하게 사용될 수 있음을 입증하였다.
