Since contaminants of syngas obtained from the biomass gasification are removed, the syngas is clean fuel. In this study a high-efficiency energy production system is developed. The system produces electricity using a waste pressure and feeds a low-pressure steam to Dyeing industrial complex. Also, iron oxide derived from dyeing sludge is utilized as a self-catalyst to reform a tar and reduce a tar emission from gasifier. This system increases the amount of syngas and finally achieves a highly efficient gasification.
Syngas can be used as raw material for chemical and fuel production. Currently, many studies on syngas production from gasification of biomass have been conducted. Kenaf is a promising renewable resource with high productivity and CO2 immobilization. This study developed a large-scale kenaf gasification process based on the experimental data, and evaluated the techno-economic feasibility, which consists of three steps (integrated process design, heat exchanger network design, techno-economic assessment). The minimum selling price of syngas is US$ 9.55/GJ, and it is lower than current market price of syngas.
In this study, we assessed the effect of vitamin components (such as biotin, thiamine-HCl, and folic acid) on microorganism microbial growth and ethanol production was examined to enhance increase the ethanol concentration in the Clostridium autoethanogenum culture process using syngas as a sole carbon source. Biotin and folic acid concentrations of 0.2, 2, 20, and 100 ㎍/L were used in the culture experiments at 0.2, 2, 20, and 100 ㎍/L concentrations. The maximum ethanol concentrations of 2.81 g/L and 3.12 g/L were obtained by adding at 0.2 ㎍/L biotin and folic acid, respectively. Moreover, Thiaminethiamine--HCl at concentrations of 0.5, 5, 50, and 250 ㎍/L were was examined evaluated to in the culture experiments. The maximum ethanol concentration of 2.84 g/L was observed at 0.5 ㎍/L of thiamine--HCl. As a resultThus, the optimized concentrations of biotin, thiamine--HCl, and folic acid were determined at 0.2, 0.5, and 0.2 ㎍/L, respectively, for enhancing increasing the ethanol production. In conclusion, the maximum ethanol production was obtained by adding the minimal concentration of vitamins in C. autoethanogenum culture.

The steel industry accounts for about 5% of the total annual global energy consumption and more than 6% of the total anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, there is a need to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in these industries. The utilization of coke oven gas, a byproduct of the coke plant, is one of the main ways to achieve this goal. Coke oven gas used as a fuel in many steelmaking process is a hydrogen-rich gas with high energy potential, but it is commonly used as a heat source and is even released directly into the air after combustion reactions. In order to solve such resource waste and energy inefficiency, several alternatives have recently been proposed, such as separating and refining hydrogen directly from coke oven gas or converting it to syngas. Therefore, in this study, recent research trends on the separation and purification of hydrogen from coke oven gas and the production of syngas were introduced.
The 3 ton/day-scale pilot plant consists of waste press, feed channel, fixed bed type gasification & melting furnace, quench scrubber, syngas refinery facility and flare stack. $H_2$/CO ratio of gasification syngas using the solid waste and sludge in the 3 ton/day gasifier showed about 1. Gasification melting furnace was operated $1,300{\sim}1,600^{\circ}C$. $H_2$/CO ration control system was obtained $H_2$/CO ratio 2 and 3.
The 3 ton/day-scale pilot plant consists of compressor, feed channel, fixed bed type gasification & melting furnace, quench scrubber, demister, flare stack and gas engine. Syngas composition of gasification using the 35.50(waste I), 4.34%(wasteII) moisture-containing solid waste showed waste I CO 25-35%, 20-40% hydrogen, waste II 25-35%, 20-30% hydrogen. Gasification melting furnace was operated $1,500{\sim}1,600^{\cdot}C$. Gas engine was generated $35{\sim}40$ kW as waste gasification syngas.
Production and application of biodiesel are expected to grow steadily in the coming years and thus output of its by-product, crude glycerin, will accordingly increase as well. In the present study, gasification of biodiesel by-product as a renewable energy was performed in an entrained flow gasifier to investigate the gasification performance with the operating conditions. Crude glycerin shows a high heating value of 6,000 kcal/kg and low ash and sulphur content. Gasification was conducted in a temperature range of $950\;{\sim}\;1500\;^{\circ}C$. The variation of syngas composition with excess air ratio of 0.17 ~ 0.7 for air or oxygen as a gasification agent was investigated. From the results, syngas heating value, carbon conversion and cold gas efficiency of more than $2500\;kcal/Nm^3$, 95% and 65% were achieved, respectively. The temperature dependency of syngas composition, carbon conversion, and cold gas efficiency shows a similar tendency to excess air ratio at the temperature corresponding to the excess air ratio. The $H_2/CO$ ratio of the product gas was varied from 1.25 to 0.7 with the excess air ratio and this gas composition was favorable for DME synthesis. The optimum excess air ratio for gasification of biodiesel by-product was evaluated to be an approximately 0.35 to 0.4. The present results indicate that crude glycerin can be utilized as a feedstock for gasification to make syngas.

Experimental studies are conducted to investigate the flame stability and the thermal/fuel NOx formation characteristics of the low calorific value (LCV) coal derived gas fuel. Synthetic LCV fuel gas is produced by mixing carbon monoxide, hydrogen, nitrogen and ammonia on the basis that the thermal input of the syngas fuel into a burner is identical to that of natural gas. The syngas mixture is fed to and burnt with air on flat flame burner. With the variation of the equivalence ratio for specific syngas fuel, flame behaviors are observed to identify the flame instability due to blow-off or flashback and to define stable combustion range. Measurements of NOx content in combustion gas are made for comparing thermal and fuel NOx from the LCV syngas combustion with those of the natural gas one. In addition, the nitrogen dilution of the LCV syngas is preliminarily attempted as a NOx reduction technique, and its effects on thermal and fuel NOx production are discussed.

Biomass, a carbon-neutral resource, is an alternative energy source for exhaustion of fossil fuel and environmental problems. Most of energy production systems using biomass operate with a thermal chemical conversion method. Amongst them, gasification generates syngas and applies to boilers or engines for the production of heat and electricity. However, Tar could be formed during the production of syngas and it is condensed at low temperature which may cause to clog the pipelines and combustion chamber, ultimately resulting in decrease of process efficiency. Thus this work utilized water and oily materials such as soybean oil, waste cooking oil and mineral oil for scrubbing liquid. The removal efficiency of Tar appeared 97%, 70%, 63% and 30% for soybean oil, waste cooking oil, mineral oil and water respectively.
The water-gas shift reaction is the subsequent step using steam for hydrogen enrichment and H2/CO ratio-controlled syngas from gasification. In this study, a water-gas shift reaction was performed using syngas from an RPF gasification system. The water-gas shift using a catalyst was performed in a laboratory-scale tube reactor with a high temperature shift (HTS) and a low temperature shift (LTS). The effects of the reaction temperature, steam/carbon ratio, and flow rate on H2 production and CO conversion were investigated. The operating temperature was 250-400℃ for the HTS system and 190-220℃ for the LTS system. Steam/carbon ratios were between 1.5 and 3.5, and the composition of reactant was CO : 40 vol%, H2 : 25 vol%, and CO2 : 25 vol%. The CO conversion and H2 production increased as the reaction temperature and steam/carbon ratio increased. The CO conversion and H2 production decreased as the flow rate increased due to reduced retention time in the catalyst bed.
