  • We have done a preliminary study on the detection of ventricular late potentials using high-resolution electrocardiography. We designed a battery powered low-noise ECG amplifier. We used the XYZ lead system and the amplifier provides 3 channels of X, Y, and Z signals with a conventional gain and another 3 channels of the amplitude-limited X, Y, and Z signals with high-gain. 12-bit data acquisition system interfaces the amplifiers to a personal computer for further signal analysis. Beat alignment algorithm was implemented on the low-gain signals to synchronize the signal averaging of the high-gain amplitude-limited signals. We suggest the use of the weighted vector sum of X', Y', and Z' signals based on the SNR of each channel. We speculate that this new method will increase the accuracy of the LP detector at the expense of more complicated hardware.

  • The explosive Increase of wireless networks and the advancement of mobile devices lead to the expansion of mobile environment. In accordance with the development of mobile environment, the need to use mobile database is increased sharply, and also it accompanies the related problems. The current mobile database system is based on the centralized method from which a synchronized server manages multiple mobile database management system to synchronize. From this mobile system architecture, several kinds of problems can be detected such as the management of synchronization issues between mobile databases and the transaction management issues. Furthermore, the current mobile database management system does not consider any solution on the fault tolerance. To solve those problems, this paper proposes the mobile agent-based mobile database management system. The proposed system provide high confidence and efficiency by enhancing the network efficiency and fault tolerance through the mobile grouping.

  • The scheme to reduce jerking phenomena in one push-pull type trainset was proposed. To simulate the jerking between coaches, dynamic analysis model was made. This model could analyze longitudinal dynamic behavior between locomotives and coaches caused by spring and damping characteristics of couplers and center pivots; characteristic curves of traction and braking. To validate the analysis results, tests were conducted in the same driving and braking condition. Comparison of longitudinal acceleration between simulation and test results shows a good agreement. To minimize the jerking phenomena, lots of dynamic simulations were conducted with varying driving/braking effort curve. From the results of simulations, an efficient and economic way to reduce jerking phenomena was found to be to reduce slope of tractive effort curve and synchronize braking time between locomotives and coaches. Test results show that this way could reduce the jerking Phenomena. To express jerkins Phenomena quantitatively, maximum peak to peak values of acceleration were used.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method to broadcast digital television signals using single frequency networks (SFNs) within the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) transmission systems. In implementing the SFNs of an 8-vestigial side band (8-VSB) Digital Television (DTV) system, the ambiguity problem of the trellis coder is unavoidable in a conventional ATSC transmission system. We propose a memory initialization of the trellis coder to resolve this ambiguity problem. Since the proposed scheme to synchronize multiple transmitters minimizes the changes from the conventional ATSC system, the hardware complexity for these changes is very low. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme makes a less than 0.1 dB degradation at the threshold of visibility with a bit error rate of $3{\times}10^{-6}$ in the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. It is possible to reduce the performance degradation by increasing the initialization period of the proposed scheme.

  • As different media formats converge into one digital content, we need to put time information in the content to synchronize those media. In this paper, we propose more efficient methods to represent time information aimed at Karaoke application. We utilize the linguistic and musical characteristic of Karaoke. Especially we make a novel codeword rule for the beat of music. In our experiment, our proposed methods turn out to drastically reduce time information.

  • In this paper, we developed a smart black box that can monitor and record the information of the sensor from subsystem in the smart grid system. The plant is the complex power system which is integrated by solar power system, grid-connected power systems, and BESS(battery energy storage system). The black box with the web-server application can connect and synchronize to an external monitoring system and a smart phone. We hope that this system is to contribute to improve operational efficiency, reliability, and stability for the smart grid power system.

An Analog Encoder for Precise Angle Control of SRM

  • In a switched reluctance motor drive, it is important to synchronize the stator phase excitation with the rotor position, because the position of rotor is an essential information. Although high resolution optical encoders or resolvers are used to provide a precise position information, these sensors are expensive. Moreover, in the high-speed region, switching angles are fluctuated back and forth out of the preset value, which is caused by the sampling period of the microprocessor. In this paper, a low cost analog encoder suitable for practical applications is proposed. And the control algorithm to generate switching signals using a Simple digital logic is presented. The validity of the proposed analog encoder with a proper logic controller is verified from the experiments.

  • A novel control scheme of using a single electronic drive to synchronize two synchronous motors is investigated analytically. The developed control strategy extends the conventional vector control technology, Specifically, it utilizes the property that the motion of two motors can be independently controlled by the q-axis currents provided the desired q-axis currents can be achieved by adjusting physical armature currents. The latter part is indeed guaranteed by adding a position offset to one of the motors. This work has a potential of cost saving in practice where the cost of drive is a major concern.

  • A general web-based remote lecture system uses video data and audio data to provide synchronize between teacher and students. This system requires high bandwidth, high speed networking, television, compression and computing technologies between server and client for remote lecture over Internet. As a result, this system can decrease an efficiency for lecturing over current Internet. So, this paper proposes a new mechanism calling as ‘Synchronization of WWW browsers between server and client’to cope with above problems and finally pursues low cost needed for real-time remote lecture over Internet. The mechanism means that every browser of teacher and students displays the same page and the action of teacher is transferred to the browser of student. And, this can be implemented by Windows hooking APIs, Memory Mapping, and DLL (Dynamic Link Library) programming technology. This paper points to the design and implementation of LAS (Lecture Assistant Server) and LAC (Lecture Assistant Client) to perform the synchronization between server and client.

  • Switched reluctance motor(SRM) has the advantages of simple structure, low rotor inertia and high efficiency. However, position sensor is essential in SRM in order to synchronize the phase excitation to the rotor position. The position sensors increase the cost of drive system and tend to reduce system reliability. This paper investigates the speed control of sensorless SRM in which the phase current and change rate are utilized in position decision, and the period of dwell angle is variable by compensating the rotor angle. The proposed system consists of position decision, phase locked loop controller, switching angle controller and inverter. The performances in the proposed system are verified through experiments.
