  • The characteristics on the extension of the CED(Crack energy density) concept to the interface kinked crack problems in a dissimilar material are examined. Each mode contributions of CED are found by symmetric and antisymmetric components and domain independent integrals. Finite element calculation is carried out to simulate the Interface kinked crack growth on bimaterial. The focus is the establishment of fracture criterion with CED and finding the orientation of crack extension. From the results, a prediction about the extension behavior of an interface kinked crack can be done. And we show that CED can be a parameter to indicate fracture criterion at an Interface kinked crack.

  • Propagation modes of symmetric metal-insulator-metal SPP waveguides are analyzed. Main characteristics of these waveguides such as mode effective index, propagation length, and penetration depths are calculated at the telecom wavelength for different layer thickness. We adopt Au, Al as a metal material and air, glass as a dielectric material and obtain different optical characteristics. The surface plasmon characteristics in this paper provide a numerical insight for designing nanostructure metal plasmon waveguide.

  • The practical utilization of the frequency and normal mode equations of uniform Timoshenko beams such as those presented by Huang is not simple due to their highly trancendental nature. In this note largely simplified equations obtained for the fixed-fixed and the free-free boundary conditions, the modes of which are separable into symmetric modes and antisymmetric ones, are given. Numerical results obtains for six common-type boundary conditions show that the quantitative measure of the effect of rotary inertia and shear deformation on the natural frequency is greatly dependent upon the boundary conditions as well as the order number.

  • A model is constructed to evaluate the mode III stress intensity factor(SIF) for orthotropic three-layered material with a center crack subjected to uniform anti-plane shear loading. A mixed boundary value problem is formulated by Fourier integral transform method and a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind is derived. The integral equation is numerically analyzed to evaluate the effects of the ratio of shear modulus, strength of each layer and crack length to layer thickness on the stress intensity factor.

  • The flexural vibration characteristics of a sandwich beam system with a partially inserted viscoelastic layer have been quantitatively studied using a finite element analysis in combination with a sine-sweep test. Antisymmetric mode shapes of the flexural vibration were visualized by the holographic interferometry and agreed with those calculated by the finite element simulation. Effects of the beam thickness as well as the length and thickness of partial viscoelastic layers on the system loss factor(η$\_$s/) and resonant frequency($\omega$$\_$r/) were significantly large fur the symmetric and antisymmetric modes of the beam system.

  • In this study, the reflection of the L(0,2), axially symmetric guided elastic wave from defects in pipes above ground is examined using finite element method. Phase and group velocity dispersion curves for the pipe were presented for the selection of the excitation mode. Some simple signal processing was applied to determine the amplitude of each of the reflected waves and to calculate the reflection coefficient. The results show the reflection coefficient of this mode is very close to a linear function of the circumferential extent of the defect. The motivation for the work was the development of a technique for inspecting chemical plant pipelines, but the study addresses the nature of the reflection function and its general applicability.

  • Free vibration analyses of circular cylindrical shells attached with plate structures for the symmetric boundary condition such as simply-simply supported shells by receptance method are found in literatures. However analyses of those shells with unsymmetric boundary condition as clamped free boundary are hardly found. Here frequency equation of the clamped free circular cylindrical shell with end plate is derived using receptance method and natural frequencies of the combined system were calculated. The frequencies and mode shapes obtained from present method are compared with those of ANSYS to show the validity of the method. Natural frequencies and mode component ratios of clamped-free cylindrical shell are obtained by employing Rayleigh-Ritz method on energy equations, and they are used in receptance calculation. Results show good agreement with those of ANSYS analyses.

  • The multiple valued logic(MVL) circuit with ROM type using current mode CMOS is presented in this paper. This circuit is composed of the multiple valued-to-binary(MV/B) decoder and the selection circuit. The MV/B decoder decodes the single input multiple valued signal to N binary signal, and the selection circuits is composed N$\times$N array of the selecion cells with ROM types. The selection cell is realized with the current mirror circuits and the inhibit circuits. The presented circuit is suitable for designing the circuit of MVL functions with independent variables, and reduces the number of selection cells for designing the circuit of symmetric MVL functions as many as {($N^2$-N)/2}+N. This circuit possess features of simplicity. expansibility for array and regularity, modularity for the wire routing. Also, it is suitable for VLSI implementation.

  • Dynamic analysis of complex and large structures may be costly from a numerical point of view. For coupled vibroacoustic finite element models, the importance of reducing the size becomes obvious because the fluid degrees of freedom must be added to the structural ones. In this paper, a component mode synthesis method is proposed for large vibroacoustic interaction problems. This method couples fluid subdomains and dynamical substructuring of Craig and Bampton type. The acoustic formulation is written in terms of the velocity potential, which implies several advantages: coupled algebraic systems remain symmetric, and a potential formulation allows a direct extension of Craig and Bampton's method to acoustics. Those properties make the proposed method easy to implement in an existing finite element code because the local numerical treatment of substructures and fluid subdomains is undifferentiated. Test cases are then presented for axisymmetric geometries. Numerical results tend to prove the validity and the efficiency of the proposed method.
