This study is to investigate the creative thinking style and it's leaning that normal students and scientifically gifted students use mainly at processing information. Right Brain vs Left Brain Creativity Test(R/LCT) and Brain Preference Indicator(BPI) is taken to investigate the creative thinking style of normal students(N=144) and scientifically gifted students(N=97). In the R/LCT, the normal students responded that they prefer to use right-brain thinking rather than left-brain thinking. But the scientifically gifted students prefer to left-brain thinking. The normal students showed most preference for Holistic Processing of right side brain and they did most avoiding for Verbal Processing of left side brain. The scientifically gifted students showed most preference for Logical Processing of left side brain. And they did most avoiding for Random Processing of right side brain. There was a meaningful difference between left side brain preference group and right side brain preference group on Sequential, Symbolic, Logical, Verbal, Random, Intuitive, Fantasy-oriented Processing of normal Students. But the scientifically gifted students showed a meaningful difference in right side brain processing mainly. In other word, all the scientifically gifted students took an lean processing in Logical, Symbolic, Linear Processing, etc. In sum, the scientifically gifted students are unequal in at processing information against the normal students. So it is required more appropriate teaching-learning method based on the creative thinking style and it's leaning for effective gifted education.
The purpose of this study is to theoretically explore symbol didactic, which serves as a mediator and integrator of human experience with biblical experience. Based on a deep consideration of the functions and roles of symbols, as studied in psychology, philosophy, religious studies, and theology, this study aims to examine representative theories of Bible didactic that have introduced symbolic action into Christian education. By exploring these theories, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of symbols in Christian education and their impact on the learning process. This study is divided into two main parts. In the first half, it examines the meanings of symbols and their functions as discussed by prominent scholars from various disciplines who have paid attention to symbols, including S. Freud and C. Jung in psychoanalysis, E. Cassirer and P. Ricoeur in philosophy, M. Eliade in religious studies, and P. Tillich in theology. In the second half, the study critically analyzes and discusses representative theories of symbol didactic, such as those proposed by H. Halbfas and P. Biehl, which have applied the symbolic action of neighboring disciplines to Christian education. Symbol didactic differs from traditional biblical didactic, which aims to transmit content, by using symbols as a medium to facilitate dialogue between the learner's experiences and those of the Bible. This approach enables learners to experience the deep relationship between the content of the Bible and the experiences of biblical figures with their own experiences, and provides an opportunity to deepen that experience.
Given that the culture of the mathematics classroom has been perceived as an important topic in mathematics education research, this paper deals with the construct of sociomathematical norms which can be used as an analytical tool in understanding classroom mathematical culture. This paper first reviews the theoretical foundations of the construct such as symbolic interactionism and ethnomethodology, and describes the actual classroom contexts in which social and sociomathematical norms were originally identified. This paper then provides a critical analysis of the previous studies with regard to sociomathematical norms. Whereas such studies analyze how sociomathematical norms become constituted and stabilized in the specific classroom contexts, they tend to briefly document sociomathematical norms mainly as a precursor to the detailed analysis of classroom mathematical practice. This paper reveals that the trend stems from the following two facts. First, the construct of sociomathematical norms evolved out of a classroom teaching experiment in which Cobb and his colleagues attempted to account for students' conceptual loaming as it occurred in the social context of an inquiry mathematics classroom. Second, the researchers' main role was to design instructional devices and sequences of specific mathematical content and to support the classroom teacher to foster students' mathematical learning using those sequences Given the limitations in terms of the utility of sociomathematical norms, this paper suggests the possibility of positioning the sociomathematical norms construct as more centrally reflecting the quality of students' mathematical engagement in collective classroom processes and predicting their conceptual teaming opportunities. This notion reflects the fact that the construct of sociomathematical norms is intended to capture the essence of the mathematical microculture established in a classroom community rather than its general social structure. The notion also allows us to see a teacher as promoting sociomathematical norms to the extent that she or he attends to concordance between the social processes of the classroom, and the characteristically mathematical ways of engaging. In this way, the construct of sociomathematical norms include, but in no ways needs to be limited to, teacher's mediation of mathematics discussions.
Objectives: This study aims to investigate the married female immigrants' experience on Korean dietary life adaptation, especially identifying the symbolic meaning and nature of experiences. Methods: This study was conducted with six married female immigrants through an analysis of the qualitative materials which consisted of in-depth interviews, field notes and materials. Data was analyzed using Giorgi's phenomenological research methods. Results: The results were deduced as 116 significant statements, 17 formulated meanings (sub-theme), and 6 theme clusters. Six theme clusters comprised of lack of preliminary knowledge and information, conflict and support in relationships, Korean food culture which is different from homeland, adaptation attitudes of Korean food culture according to situation, sharing of homeland food culture, and practical difficulty and expectative service. The participants started Korean life in the dark about Korea and Korean food culture, so they were subjected to trial and error. The conflict between Korean mother-in-law and foreign daughter-in-law came from lack of consideration of daughter-in-law's cultural background. Some participants were hurt because of misunderstanding and nitpicking. They were learning about cooking method, ingredient, seasoning, table setting and manner. Some participants integrated Korean food culture and their homeland food culture. Some of them assimilated with Korean food culture. One of them maintained homeland food culture. The participants who adapted Korean food culture well could share homeland food amicably. They sometimes didn't apply the services which were offered by the government, because the services did not fit their needs. Some of them didn't know the usage route of the services or information. They had resistance about home teaching and it showed that outreach service was not always effective. Conclusions: This study suggested that it is necessary to develop a practical support plan which covers married female immigrants' real needs and system improvement measures.
This study analyzed the concept of equal symbol(=) that is the most symbol used in learning of mathematics and investigated students' understanding of that. The equal symbol is endowed with the 'same', 'equal', and 'equivalent' meaning, represented by =, but students interpret the meaning of equal symbol according to the mathematical con text. Thus, we analyzed the equal symbol on the basis of the theory of conceptual fields. In the theory of conceptual fields, concept is a three-tuple of three sets of situation, operational invariants and symbolic representations, and the operational invariants are the concept-in-action and the theorems- in-action. With the analysis contents, we investigated how students read = by korean, what equals in the expression containing = or by what meaning students used =, and which they could correct the error for =. This study imply that we should consider the symbol notation agreed by mathematical society, the meaning, and the situational context that it used, when we teach the mathematics symbols.
The purpose of this study is to explore the composite properties of linear functions using CAS calculators. The meaning and processes in which technological tools such as CAS calculators generated to instrument are reviewed. Other theoretical topic is the design of an exploring model of observing-conjecturing-reasoning and proving using CAS on experimental mathematics. Based on these background, the researchers analyzed the properties of the family of composite functions of linear functions. From analysis, instrumental capacity of CAS such as graphing, table generation and symbolic manipulation is a meaningful tool for this exploration. The result of this study identified that CAS as a mediator of mathematical activity takes part of major role of changing new ways of teaching and learning school mathematics.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to develop a textbook of the integrated education of Korean food culture and language for married female immigrants. Methods: An analysis was conducted with the textbooks and researches for married female immigrants, and dietary life related contents were extracted. The contents were organized by activity oriented approach which is acquired the culture. The evaluation was conducted through depth interview with 6 married female immigrants through an analysis of the qualitative materials. Results: The text book comprised of 30 Korean food recipes with the target expressions and vocabularies. It also included Korean basic table setting, Korean table manner, main dishes and side dishes, basic cutting, seasoning and garnish, measure of the ingredients, symbolic food, regional food culture, choice of food ingredients, shopping, bargaining, taste expression, color expression, all sorts of spices, Korean traditional festival food, and seasonal customs and food. For intensifying communication, activity which is close to real life was added. Through cooking, married female immigrants expose words and sentence patterns and that allows to evaluate their level of understanding. We observed that the developed textbook is suited for married female immigrants' needs and cognitive level. The text book included a comparative study between Korean culture and their country's culture, which could provide the motive for accepting each other's cultures. The study showed how to develop a textbook that integrates Korean language education and Korean food culture and how to apply the textbook in real life. Conclusions: The correct understanding about Korean food culture could lead to improvements communication ability. Useful information which relates to Korean food, recipes, and food culture could increase daily life satisfaction. Conducting both cultural education and language education could increase the participation of married female immigrants in learning activities. Therefore this study could help these females to adapt Korean society and manage family dietary life effectively.
This study examined pre-service teachers' pedagogical content knowledge of fraction division in a context where they were asked to write a story problem for a symbolic expression illustrating a whole number divided by a proper fraction. Problem-posing is an important instructional strategy with the potential to create meaningful contexts for learning mathematical concepts, especially when real-world applications are intended. In this study, story problems written by 135 elementary pre-service teachers were analyzed with respect to mathematical correctness. error types, and division models. Patterns and tendencies in elementary pre-service teachers' knowledge of fraction division were identified. Implicaitons for teaching and teacher education are discussed.

The gist of Pygmalion is however less Eliza's ascent into the middle class than her battle for symbolic capital waged at the level of language. By problematizing his contemporary practice of habitus conventionalized and warped by class distinctions based on economic, social and cultural capitals, Shaw creates a new humanist model of man founded on spiritual and rational virtues. In conclusion, Eliza is not a frigid Galatea but a dynamic character that goes through a brilliant transformation of three stages: 1) linguistic; 2) cultural, and 3) humanist. Finally she is built into a "consort battleship" on an equal standing with her sculptor. The process of her character-building cannot be illuminated without resorting to the dynamic notion of habitus, which highlights the process of inculcation, structuring, generation and transposing. Given the overwhelming weight of the heroine's role and the dynamic process of her transformation as the major plot scheme, this play should be christened Galatea in lieu of Pygmalion.
The aim of this paper is to develop a web-based learning system in order to motivate college students in the area of science and engineering to study college calculus. We designed and developed web-based contents, named MathBooster, using Mathematica, webMathematica and phpMath taking advantages of rapid computation and symbolic computation. The features of MathBooster consists of four parts: graphical representation of calculus concepts, textual illustrations of conceptual understanding, example-based step-by-step learning with phpMath, and quizzes with diagnostic feedback. After the MathBooster was practiced with engineering students, the formative evaluation was conducted with survey items composed in four categories: user responses, screen layout, practicing examples and diagnostic feedback in solving quizzes. The overall level of user satisfaction was statistically measured using SPSS. Those results indicate which parts of MathBooster are needed for future enhancement.
