  • Many multi-modulus blind equalization algorithms (MMA) have been presented in the past to overcome the undesirable high misadjustment exhibited by the well-known constant modulus algorithm. Some of these MMA schemes, specifically tailored for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) constellations, have also been proved to fix the phase offset error without needing any rotator at the end of the equalizer stage. In this paper, a new multi-modulus algorithm is presented for QAM signals. The contribution lies in the technique to incorporate the sliced symbols (outcomes of decision device) in the multi-modulus-based weight adaptation process. The convergence characteristics of the proposed sliced multi-modulus algorithm (S-MMA) is demonstrated by way of simulations, and it is shown that it gives better steady-state performance in terms of residual inter-symbol interference and symbol-error rate. It has also been shown that the proposed algorithm exhibits lesser steady-state misadjustment compared to the best reported MMA.

  • The symbol error probability of M-ary PSK (MPSK) and QAM (MQAM) systems using the branch with the largest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the output of L-branch selection combining (SC) in frequency-nonselective slow Nakagami fading channels with an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) is derived theoretically For integer values of the Nakagami fading parameter m, the general formula for evaluating symbol error rate (SER) of MPSK signals in the independent branch diversity system comprises numerical analyses with the integral-form expressions. An exact closed-form SER performance of MQAM signals under the effect of SC diversity via numerical integration is presented. These performance evaluations allow designers to determine M-ary modulation methods for Nakagami fading channels.

  • In this paper, the relationship between k consecutive outputs of the conventional differential detector and output of differential detector with k-symbol periods delay for differential MSK and GMSK systems is investigated. It is hown that there exists periodity in modulo-2 sum and product of k successive outputs of the conventional differential detector with the output of a detector with k-symbol periods delay circuit. This relationships are used to achieve performance gains over conventional differential detection. The error rate performance of the method is carried out by computer simulation and performance improvement is achieved for differential MSK and GMSK systems.

  • Recently, the communication between LED array and camera, called Visual-MIMO, is under active research and we expect the maximization of application to the vehicle as well as smart-phone. In this paper, we improve the BER performance of Visual-MIMO system by using the brightness information of a received image. We also suggest the error correction method to minimize the error due to Inter-Symbol-Interference. The performance analysis according to the noise and distance variation will verify the validity of our proposed method including results through simulation and hardware experiment.

  • In this paper, we propose the joint carrier and symbol timing recovery algorithm using repetitive preamble and differential detection for burst modem. The proposed algorithm can estimate the frequency offset and the symbol timing error regardless of the amount of frequency offset, with a high accuracy, even using very short preamble and at low SNR values. The algorithms for continuous phase frequency shift keying (CPFSK) and phase shift keying (PSK) types are developed. Through computer simulations, we compare the proposed algorithm with the existing algorithms on the estimation accuracy in terms of the preamble length, and analyze those bit error rate(BER) performance.

  • In this paper, we present a scheme to overcome the worst case complexity of the sphere decoder. If the number of visited nodes reaches the threshold, the detected symbol vector is determined between two candidate symbol vectors. One candidate symbol vector is obtained from the demodulated output of ZF receiver which is initial stage of the sphere decoder. The other candidate symbol vector consists of two sub-symbol vectors. The first sub-symbol vector consists of lately visited nodes running from the most upper layer. The second one contains corresponding demodulated outputs of ZF receiver. Between these two candidate symbol vectors, the one with smaller euclidean distance to the received symbol vector is chosen as detected symbol vector. In addition, we show the upper bound of symbol error rate performance for the sphere decoder using the proposed scheme. In the simulation, the proposed scheme shows the significant reduction of the worst case complexity while having negligible SER performance degradation.

  • In this paper, we analyzed performance of a symbol timing recovery scheme for 16QAM Radio system. As a symbol timing recovery scheme, both maximum amplitude method(MAM) and wave difference method(WDM) are analyzed employing a pulse shaping filter, such as raised cosine filter(RCF) and nonlinear filter(NLF). Simulation result shows that the jitter performance of MAM or WDM using NLF is better than that using square root RCF. In order to estimate and compensate for the Rayleigh fading PSAM(Pilot Symbol Assisted Modulation) and space diversity are also employed. Consequently, BER performance of about $10^{-4}$ is obtained for $E_b/N_o$= 20 dB.

  • This paper presents the convergence time, SER(Symbol Error Rate), MSE(Mean Square Error), hardware complexity and step-size(${\mu}$) about various LMS(Least Mean Square) algorithms in FS-DFE(Fractionally Spaced-Decision Feedback Equalize) for Cable Modem based on MCNS(Multimedia Cable Network System) DOCSIS(Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) v1.0/v1.1 standards. We designed and simulated using ${SPW}^{TM}$ and synthesized using STD90 library through ${SYNOPSYS}^{TM}$. And also, we adopted the time-multiplexed multiplication and tap shared architecture in order to achieve the low hardware complexity. Simulation results show that DS-LMS algorithms[1][3] is the optimum solution about performace and hardware size. in high order QAM applications. Finally, we achieved area saving about 58% using DS-LMS algorithm compare with conventional equalizer architecture.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new method which is available for analyzing the throughput of the packet radio network by using the auxiliary Markov transient matrix with a failure state and a success state. And we consider the effect of symbol error for the network state(X, R) consisted of the number of transmitting PRU X and receiving PRU R. We examine the packet radio network of a continuous time Markov chain model, and the direct sequence binary phase shift keying CDMA radio channel with hard decision Viterbi decoding and bit-by-bit changing spreading code. For the unslotted distributed multi-hop packet radio network, we assume that the packet error due to a symbol error of radio channel has Poisson process, and the time period of an error occurrence is exponentially distributed. Through the throughputs which are found as a function of radio channel parameters, such as the received signal to noise ratio and chips of spreading code per symbol, and of network parameters, such as the number of PRU and offered traffic rate, it is shown that this composite analysis enables us to combine the Markovian packet radio network model with a coded DS/BPSK CDMA radio channel.
