  • This paper presents the design of a pipelined virtual output queue routing engine for an advanced input-queued ATM switch, which has a serial cross bar structure. The proposed routing engine has been designed for wire-speed routing with a pipelined buffer management. It provides the tolerance of requests and grants data transmission latency between the routing engine and central arbiter using a new request control method that is based on a high-speed shifter. The designed routing engine has been implemented in a field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip with a 77MHz operating frequency, 16$\times$16 switch size, and 2.5Gbps/port speed.

  • This paper describes the performance comparison results for current controller of a single-phase PFC converter with 1-switch voltage doubler strategy for single-phase double-conversion UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supply). A single-phase PFC converter with 1-switch voltage doubler strategy needs a diode bridge and one bidirectional active switch. Thus it is possible to reduce the material cost. However, the study results of current controller design and comparison of current control method has not been known after the converter circuit was proposed. For the performance comparison of current control, single-phase 3 kVA double-conversion UPS was tested. The performance of PI and PR current controller is experimentally confirmed with followings - input current reference tracking, input power factor correction and input current THD suppression.

  • A network is made up of interconnected switching units. The role of a switching unit is to set up a connection between and input port and an output, according to the routing information. But then the most switching network use Banyan switch, their occurs the internal blocking , which attempts to use the same link two cells. This paper proposed and designed for a improvement Batch-Banyan network which can routed two path assignment between its input ports and output ports without only blocking. The network is constructed of two sorting blocks ($4{\times}4$), one switch network($8{\times}8$) block. As a result, the switch network performance increased 4% reduced to half of the hardware complexity of sorting boxes when compare the new switching system with Batcher-Banyan network system.

  • A new soft switching technique that improves performance of the high power factor boost rectifier by reducing switching losses is introduced. The losses are reduced by air active snubber which consists of an inductor, a capacitor a rectifier, and an auxiliary switch. Since the boost switch turns off with zero current, this technique is well suited for implementations with insulated gate bipolar transistors. The reverse recovery related losses of the rectifier are also reduced by the snubber inductor which is connected in series with the boost switch and the boost rectifier. In addition, the auxiliary switch operates with zero voltage switching. A complete design procedure and extensive performance evaluation of the proposed active snubber using a 1.2[kW] high power factor boost rectifier operating from a 90 [$V_{rms}$] input are also presented.

  • Purpose Although companies occupied the network market take the advantageous position first and can be successful in securing users over a certain size, it is important to satisfy the customers' demand and prevent the outflow of users toward a new alternative SNS. What is more, there are frequent changes in the flow of users toward new SNSs. Despite these dynamic market circumstances, there is a lack of research to explain the switching behaviors of SNS users. Design/methodology/approach The objective of this study is to explain and verify a specified migration theory(Push-Pull-Mooring model) focused on SNS fatigue in the psychological point of view, as well as reviewing previous studies on functional and technical characteristics of SNSs themselves. Moreover, this study tried to highlight factors affecting users actual SNS switch rather than their switching intention. Findings According to the statistical analysis, the most influenced pull factor to switch SNS was the alternative attractiveness. On the other hand, undesired relationship burden, service innovation and important mooring factors to prevent users' SNS switch. This study has a significant contribution to the theory, which analyzed users' actual SNS switch, and examined SNS users' psychological factors(SNS fatigue), reviewing the characteristics of existing services. To secure more users and to keep them, companies providing social network service need to develop differentiated strategies by analyzing psychological characteristics of various users.

  • The isolation performance of the S-band single-pole single-throw(SPST) monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) switch with two different RF-interconnection approaches, microstrip and grounded coplanar waveguide(GCPW) lines, are investigated. On-to-off isolation is improved by 5.8 dB with the GCPW design compared with the microstrip design and additional improvement of 6.9 dB is obtained with the coplanar wire-bond interconnection(CWBI) at a 3.4 GHz. The measured insertion loss and third-order inter-modulation distortion(IMD3) are less than 1.94 dB over $3.2{\sim}3.6\;GHz$ and greater than 64 dBc.

  • A bidirectional flyback converter is a suitable topology for use in a PV-to-bus differential power processing (DPP) module for PV applications due to its electrical isolation capability, bidirectional power transfer, high step-up ratio, and simple circuit structure. However, the bidirectional flyback converter design should consider the effect of the output-side power switch utilized for bidirectional operation compared with that of the conventional flyback converter. This study presents the structure and design methodology of the bidirectional flyback converter for a PV DPP module. Magnetizing inductance is designed by calculating the power loss of converter components within the rated load range under the discontinuous conduction mode, which is unaffected by the reverse recovery characteristics of the anti-parallel diode of the output-side power switch. The validity of the proposed design methodology is verified using a 25 W bidirectional flyback converter prototype. The operational principles and the performance of the DPP operation are verified using practical DPP modules consisting of bidirectional flyback converters implemented according to the proposed design methodology.

  • The satellite includes many release mechanisms such as solar array deployment, antenna deployment, cover to protect contamination in scientific equipment, pyro value of the propulsion subsytem, and bypass device in Li-Ion cell module. A drive the initiators is a critical to the successful mission because the initiators of release mechanism driving by the pyrotechnic circuit is operated in single short. The pyrotechnic circuit has to provide switching network for safety. A typical switching network has defect consisting of high current rating fire switch to handle switching transient current during fire the initiator. The pyrotechnic circuit is required some form of power conditioning to reduce the peak power demanded from the bus if the initiators are to be fired from the main bus. This paper design a pyrotechnic circuit synchronized to the fire-command to activate the fire switch to overcome use high current rating fire switch to handle switching transient current during fire the initiator. The pyrotechnic circuit provides a current limited widow pulse for fire current synchronized to the fire-command to insure that fire switch will only carry the current but never switch it. The current limited widow pulse for fire current can be possible to use low current rating and light mass switch in switching network. The current limit function in the pyrotechnic circuit reduces supply voltage to initiator and provides the effect of power conditioning function to reduce peak bus power. The pyrotechnic circuit to apply satellite development on geostationary orbit is verified the function by test in development model.

  • Microelectromechanical system switches are becoming more and more popular in the electronics industry; there is a need for careful selection of the materials in the design and fabrication of switches for reliability and performance issues. The membrane used for actuation to change the state of an RF switch is made mostly using gold or aluminum. Various designs of membranes have been proposed. Due to the flexure-type structures, the design complexity increases, which makes stress analysis mandatory to validate the reliability and performance of a switch. In this paper, the effective stress and actuation voltage required for different types of fixed-fixed membranes is analyzed using finite element modeling. Effective measures are presented to reduce the stress and voltage.

  • This paper presents a new soft-switching boost converter based on the LC resonance and passive clamping technique without additional active switches. The circuit achieves high efficiency and low voltage stress by adopting a soft switching method using LC resonance. This paper gives a mathematical analysis of each mode and a detailed design procedure of the proposed boost converter. First of all, the operational principles are verified through simulation results. Then, according to the design procedure, we designed and built a 1.5[kW] prototype soft switching boost converter. Through the experimental results, we demonstrated the validity and usefulness of the proposed boost converter.
