  • We report an evaluation of the immunostimulatory effect of propolis volatiles from a stingless honeybee. We studied 34 elderly residents at a special nursing home. Twenty-one subjects were treated with propolis, 8 with $Binch\hat{o}$ charcoal and 5 subjects acted as controls. Subjects treated with either propolis or Bincho charcoal were housed in rooms separated from the other non-study residents in the nursing home. The effects of each treatment on natural killer (NK) cell activity and lymphocyte levels were examined after 2 months and then for a longer period. The results indicated that NK cell activity was significantly improved to that within the normal range only after propolis treatment.

  • Recently, a concept of bid-rigging is issued in electronic auction. To prevent this attack, Abe-Suzuki proposed firstly receipt-free scheme based on bidding-booth. Chen-Lee-Kim pointed out that Abe-Suzuki's scheme only provides receipt-freeness for losing bidders. Also, they introduced a new receipt-free sealed bid auction scheme using the homomorphic encryption technique. The main participants of their scheme are Auctioneer, Auction Issuer, Bidder and Seller. Bid-rigging can happen by a seller in their scheme. We propose receipt-free sealed-bid auction scheme using a universal re-encryption mixnet. For our receipt-free sealed-bid auction, we use Pseudo ID of a bidder and universal re-encryption technique of Golle et al. Also, our scheme satisfies privacy, correctness, public verifiability, non-reputation, and receipt-freeness.

  • Let G be a finite group and nse(G) be the set of numbers of elements of G of the same order. In this paper, we prove that the simple group $Sz(2^{2m+1})$, where $2^{2m+1}-1$ is a prime number, is uniquely determined by $nse(Sz(2^{2m+1}))$ and ${\mid}Sz(2^{2m+1}){\mid}$.

  • Simple and practical synthesis of natural benzofuran derivative eupomatenoid-6 via Horner-Emmons type condensation as the key step is described. The umpolung property of aldehyde derivative, ${\alpha}$-aminophosphonate was efficiently employed in this reaction. ${\alpha}$-Aminophosphonate of anisaldehyde subjected to Horner-Emmons type condensation with 5-bromo-2-methoxybenzaldehyde to yield the deoxybenzoin, which was further methylated and then underwent tandem demethylation-cyclodehydration to afford the benzofuran scaffold in excellent yield. Finally Suzuki coupling with propenyl boronic acid afforded eupomatenoid-6 with an overall yield of 56.8%.

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce the notion of generalized multivalued Ƶ-contraction and generalized multivalued Suzuki type Ƶ-contraction for pair of mappings and establish common fixed point theorems for such mappings in complete metric spaces. Results obtained in this paper extend and generalize some well known fixed point results of the literature. We deduce some corollaries from our main result and provide examples in support of our results.
