  • We conducted a survey in collaboration with the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education to assess the current status of collections in public libraries affiliated with the Office of Education. The objective of this survey was to identify the current challenges and determine when these libraries are expected to reach a state of collection saturation. Libraries under the jurisdiction of the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education are currently facing significant challenges due to severe collection saturation. This underscores the pressing need for the systematic expansion and operation of a collaborative preservation library for a swift response. In the future, it appears that the focus during the transfer process will primarily be on transferring collection-oriented materials. Given the difficulty in providing preservation facilities at individual library levels, materials with preservation value, such as rare books and specialized resources, will need to be transferred to the collaborative preservation library. Additionally, the development of policies and regulations related to material preservation seems necessary. Furthermore, when transferring materials to the collaborative preservation library in the future, it appears that criteria for material transfer will be needed, particularly concerning issues such as a decrease in usage rates for less frequently accessed materials. Subsequent research should consider conducting a survey on the collection saturation status of public libraries under local governments in order to assess the overall need for collection expansion in all public libraries within Chungcheongbuk-do.

  • This article reviews various state estimation methods for nonlinear systems, particularly with a perspective of a process control engineer. Nonlinear state estimation methods can be classified into the following two categories: stochastic approaches and deterministic approaches. The current review compares the Bayesian approach, which is mainly a stochastic approach, and the MHE (Moving Horizon Estimation) approach, which is mainly a deterministic approach. Though both methods are reviewed, emphasis is given to the latter as it is particularly well-suited to highly nonlinear systems with slow sampling rates, which are common in chemical process applications. Recent developments in underlying theories and supporting numerical algorithms for MHE are reviewed. Thanks to these developments, applications to large-scale and complex chemical processes are beginning to show up but they are still limited at this point owing to the high numerical complexity of the method.

  • Project Management Information System (PMIS) has not yet fully met needs of the construction industry. Based on the deficiency of the current system, the present study performed a survey to identify a need for mobile PMIS in the industry. The survey revealed that most respondents expect the development of mobile PMIS would contribute to improving the productivity and efficiency of field operations. Based on the survey findings, this study proposes a suite of modules for mobile PMIS, which are focused on construction management, document management, schedule management, and field information management. Mobile PMIS would allow to access from the field through mobile devices by using tablet computers and smart-phones. The study also suggests that the effectiveness of the system can be enhanced by user interfaces that are customized for each module.

  • There are approximately 1.06 million vacant homes in Korea, accounting for 6% of all housing, and approximately 98 thousand vacant homes are in Gyeongsangnam-do, taking up 8.7% of the housing in the province. In particular, the number of abandoned house in Gyeongsangnam-do is rapidly increasing from 6.7% in 2010 to 8.7% in 2015. This study examined the current state of abandoned house in Gyeongsangnam-do according to the characteristics of cities and rural areas, causes for vacancies, and demand for use of such abandoned house. The study areas were selected based on case studies in Korea and overseas, and a survey was conducted among residents in the selected areas. The survey was on awareness of abandoned house in the neighborhood, causes for vacancies, awareness of owners, the influence of the abandoned house, plans to deal with abandoned house, and plans to utilize abandoned house. The results showed that most residents were aware of abandoned house, especially the ones in rural areas, who had detailed perceptions about abandoned house nearby such as when the homes became empty and whether there are owners of the homes. As for the influence of abandoned house on the surrounding environment, both rural areas and cities responded that abandoned house mostly spoil the beauty of the neighborhood, followed by psychological anxiety such as fear of crimes. Regarding plans to utilize abandoned house nearby, at least half of the residents wanted to use them as rental housing after repairing them. A survey on the actual condition must be conducted at the provincial level in order to establish an integrated system to manage abandoned house in Gyeongsangnam-do. Moreover, it is necessary to come up with application measures according to categories and standards to classify the state of abandoned house in order to use them as resources for community regeneration.

  • Based on three types of 2-point statistics (galaxy clustering, galaxy-galaxy lensing, and cosmic shear power spectra) from the Deep Lens Survey (DLS), we constrain cosmology and baryonic feedback. The DLS is a deep survey, so-called a precursor to LSST, reaching down to ~27th magnitude in BVRz' over 20 deg2. To measure the three power spectra, we choose two lens galaxy populations centered at z ~0.27 and 0.54 and two source galaxy populations centered at z ~0.64 and 1.1, with more than 1 million galaxies. We perform a number of consistency tests to confirm the reliability of the measurements. We calibrated photo-z estimation of the lens galaxies and validated the result with galaxy cross-correlation measurement. The B-mode signals, indicative of potential systematics, are found to be consistent with zero. The two cosmological results independently obtained from the cosmic shear and the galaxy clustering + galaxy-galaxy lensing measurements agree well with each other. Also, we verify that cosmological results between bright and faint sources are consistent. While there exist some weak lensing surveys showing a tension with Planck, the DLS constraint on S8 agrees nicely with the Planck result. Using the HMcode approach derived from the OWLS simulation, we constrain the strength of baryonic feedback. The DLS results hint at the possibility that the actual AGN feedback may be stronger than the one implemented in the current state-of-the-art simulations.

  • This study reported present state of clothing technical designers' work duties and working conditions, so as to suggest effective ways to develop professional training methods for them. Technical designers working for vendors and agents were surveyed as they represent the majority of technical designers in Korean clothing industries. Survey participants were 62 technical designers working for 6 clothing vendors and 2 clothing agents, and the survey closely inspected their work qualifications, duties and responsibilities, working conditions and training conditions. Survey was conducted from June $27^{th}$ to July $17^{th}$, 2012. The questionnaire examined frequency analysis and multiple response analysis using SPSS 19.0 Windows after investigating documents and work fields through personal experiences and interviews from technical designers for data collection and analysis. A chi-square test analyzed the preferred type of fitting for technical designers of vendors and agents. The results showed that 32.3% of those surveyed have more than 7 years of work experience and the highest level of education is predominantly a bachelor's degree (57 people, 91.9%). Among the work responsibilities, respondents did sample measuring more than four times a day. Also, the results showed that technical designers needed to qualify: first 'Fitting Technic', second 'Pattern Correction Capability', and third 'English Skills to Communicate with Buyers'; subsequently, education on several technics (such as measuring, grading, and fitting) were required for the job. Current technical designers answered that they need more various work-related education. However, the analyzed results showed that pre work-related training was insufficient. The data shows that technical designers require re-education in 'Pattern Correction Method' (61.3%) and 'Sewing Education' (64.5%).
