  • This study describes the aerodynamic design procedure for the axial turbines of a small heavy-duty gas turbine engine being developed by Doosan Heavy Industries. The design procedure mainly consists of three parts: namely, flowpath design, airfoil design, and 3D performance calculation. To design the optimized flowpath, through-flow calculations as well as the loss estimation are widely used to evaluate the effect of geometric variables, for example, shape of meridional plane, mean radius, blades axial gap, and hade angle. During the airfoil design procedure, the optimum number of blades is calculated by empirical correlations based on the in/outlet flow angles, and then 2D airfoil planar sections are designed carefully, followed by 2D B2B NS calculations. The designed planar sections are stacked along the spanwise direction, leading to a 3D surfaced airfoil shape. To consider the 3D effect on turbine performance, 3D multistage Euler calculation, single row, and multistage NS calculations are performed.

  • Background Capsular contracture is the most troublesome complication in breast implant surgery. Although capsule formation can be seen as a normal reaction to a foreign body, it can induce pain, hardness, deformity, and other pathologic problems. Surgical intervention is required in severe cases, but even surgery cannot guarantee a successful outcome without recurrence. This experimental study confirms that single topical administration of leukotriene antagonist zafirlukast (Accolate, Astrazeneca) reduces peri-implant capsule formation and prevents capsular contracture. Methods Twelve smooth-surfaced cohesive gel implants were implanted in New Zealand White rabbits. These miniature implants were designed to be identical to currently used products for breast augmentation. The rabbits were divided into 2 groups. In the experimental group (n=6), the implant and normal saline with zafirlukast were inserted in the submuscular pocket. In the control group (n=6), the implant and normal saline alone were used. Two months later, the implants with peri-implant capsule were excised. We evaluated capsule thickness and collagen pattern and performed immunohistochemical staining of myofibroblasts, transforming growth factor $(TGF)-{\beta}1$, 2. Results The thickness of the capsules in the experimental group was reduced in both dorsal and ventral directions. The collagen pattern showed parallel alignment with low density, and the number of myofibroblasts as well as the amounts of $TGF-{\beta}1$ and $TGF-{\beta}2$ were reduced in the experimental group. Conclusions We suggest that single topical administration of leukotriene antagonist zafirlukast can be helpful in reducing capsule formation and preventing capsular contracture via myofibroblast suppression, modulation of fibroblastic cytokines, and anti-inflammatory effect.

  • A single electro-discharge-sintering (EDS) pulse (1.0 kJ/0.7 g), from a $300{\mu}F$ capacitor, was applied to atomized spherical Ti-6Al-4V powder in a low vacuum to produce porous-surfaced implant compacts. A solid core surrounded by a porous layer was formed by a discharge in the middle of the compact. XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) was used to study the surface characteristics of the implant material. C, O, and Ti were the main constituents, with smaller amounts of Al, V, and N. The implant surface was lightly oxidized and was primarily in the form of $TiO_2$ with a small amount of metallic Ti. A lightly etched EDS implant sample showed the surface form of metallic Ti, indicating that EDS breaks down the oxide film of the as-received Ti-6Al-4V powder during the discharge process. The EDS Ti-6Al-4V implant surface also contained small amounts of aluminum oxide in addition to $TiO_2$. However, V detected in the EDS Ti-6Al-4V implant surface, did not contribute to the formation of the oxide film..

  • This study of counter-culture - the cultural background of the Jean Fashion of which express the consciousness and youthfulness of young - shows the various social, cultural developments and the direction of growth for the Jean industry Until now, the fashion trends flowed from the elite, upper-class minority to the general public : however, in the case of the Jean Fashion, it has spread inversely to the upper-class from the young people who have adopted the life-styles of the lower, middle class, working people. With the emphasis on Jean Fashion's establishment through and within a counter- culture influences, the first chapter explores the counter-culture's background theory and how fashion has metamorphisized within the counter-culture. The second chapter explores the image of the jeans within the society of the youth and the general public. Finally in the fourth chapter, this study divides the images of Jean Fashion within the youth and the general population into classifications of Feminism, Eroticism, Dismantlementation. Thus, 1 came to the conclusion that the above stated theories have had great influence on the Jean Fashion Industry. The conclusion of this study are as follows: 1 Jeans are the representative article of clothing of unisex appeal which is the core characteristic of Feminism. Feminism, which surfaced coincidentally with the emergence of jeans in the 1850s, took charge of expressing the freedoms and the wills of women. 2. Jeans, being the representative article of Eroticism, have firmly entrenched its image in the young people's wardrobe through mass media such as movies, $\mu$ic, and commercials. 3. In the 90s the tendencies of Defacement and Dismantlementation of Jeans developed. In the Dismantlement tendencies of colors, the color blue foretells of the century's coming to an end, and blue also expresses the superiority of spirit and intelligence which transcends materialism.

  • Immunoelectron microscopy of storage protein at early stage of seed development showed legumin was firstly accumulated protein in between endoplasmic reticulum (ER) cisternae, and these accumulates were differentiated into protein body (PB) by transformation at later stage. Thin sections of pea cotyledons during the later stages of seed maturation showed three morphologically different types of protein bodies. One of these, presented as rough-surfaced cisternae with terminal dilations, which contained protein deposits and were often found interdigitated between stacks of rough endoplasmic reticulum. Conventional electron microscopy at earlier stages of cotyledon development showed this protein body type initially developed from the rough ER. This transformation of endoplasmic reticulum into a protein body is believed to represent a new pathway of protein body development.

  • The motion capture system has shown its great potential as a new image expression means for handling such challenging tasks as realistic animation of humans or animals in motion, which cannot be handled by the existing key frame method satisfactorily, and also projects involving a large scale or a burdensome economic expenses. Its applications also has been intensified and widened in the entertainment arena including motion pictures, TV, advertisements, documentaries, music videos, etc. centering around games. Despite of these merits, though, a number of issues have been surfaced in the digital image expression utilizing the motion capture system, such as a burdensome amount of preparatory work, the needs for attachment of markers and for remedial corrections of motion data, and the lack of trained manpower. We would like to present in this paper a new direction for making the digital image production more efficient, based on the extensive analysis of prior image production projects that used the motion capture system.

  • Objectives : This paper reviews the possibility of confusing wind-cold and cold dryness that can be found in the critical discussion revolving Wu Jutong's concept of cold dryness. With this, the paper aims to refresh the understanding of the concept of cold dryness as put together by Wu Jutong. Methods : The paper reviews the concept of Wu Jutong's cold dryness based on today's critical discussions on the topic. At the same time, the paper searches for additional theoretical basis that can be proposed with regards to Wu Jutong's concept of cold dryness. Results : The core element of the criticisms against Wu Jutong's cold dryness is that cold dryness's cold dryness pattern proposes cold fluid as one of the main symptoms, and that Xiaoqinglongtang is referred to as a cure. However, the problem of the dryness and dampness that can be found in Wu Jutong's cold dryness seems that it can be explained by the discussions regarding Shenkuzao as written in Neijing. Moreover, considering the fact that the connection between cold paathogen and Shenkuzao that surfaced in historical medical theories can also be applied to the concept of cold dryness, it seems that it can be helpful in understanding the characteristics of disease mechanism of cold dryness. Conclusions : The discussion on the concept of cold dryness originally derives as a branch of the discussion on cold. Acknowledging this, it seems that reconsideration is required on the assertion that Wu Jutong confused the symptoms of wind-cold with that of cold dryness.

  • STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Loss of the marginal bone to the first thread have been accepted but continuous effort have been made to reduce this bone loss by varying implant design and surface texture. PURPOSE: This animal study has examined the histomorphometric variations between implants with micro-thread, micro-grooved and turned surfaced neck designs. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Four mongrel dogs have been used the premolars removed and left to heal for three months. One of each implant systems with turned neck, micro-thread and micro-grooved were placed according to the manufacturers’protocol and left submerged for 8 and 12 weeks. These were then harvested for histological examination. RESULTS: The histologically all samples were successfully ossointegrated and active bone remodelling adjacent to implants. With the micro-grooved implants 0.40 mm and 0.26 mm of the marginal bone level changes were observed at 8 and 12 weeks respectively. The micro-threaded implants had changes of 0.79 mm and 0.56 mm at 8 and 12 weeks respectably. The turned neck designed implants had marginal bone level changes of 1.61 mm and 1.63 mm in 8 and 12 weeks specimens. A complex soft tissue arrangement could be observed against micro-threaded and micro-grooved implant surfaces. CONCLUSION: Within the limitations of this study, it could be concluded that implants with micro-grooved had the least and the turned neck designed implants had the most changes in the marginal bone level. The textured implant surfaces affect soft tissue responses.

  • This paper describes a novel method to surface large optics mirror with an extremely high hardness, which could replace the high cost of the repetitive off-line measurement steps and the large ultra-precision grinding machine with ultra-positioning control of 10 nm resolution. A lot of diamond pellet to be attached on the convex aluminum base consists of a grinding tool for the concave large mirror, and the tool was pressured down on the large mirror blank. The tool motion at an interval on the spiral path was controlled with each feed rate as the dwell time in the conventional computer-controlled polishing. The shape to be surfaced was measured directly by a touch probe on the machine without any separation of the mirror blank. Total 40 iterative steps of the surfacing and measurement could demonstrate the form error of RMS $7.8{\mu}m$, surface roughness of Ra $0.2{\mu}m$ for the mirror blank with diameter of 1 m and spherical radius of curvature of 5400 mm.
