With the recent popularity of mobile devices, the demand for lithium-ion batteries is increasing. In this study, the surface treatment process for the development of the Al (aluminum) lead tab for positive electrode, a key component of the pouch-type lithium-ion battery, was investigated. Anodizing and sealing processes were tested as surface treatment techniques. It was found that only a sealing process is needed to obtain sufficient adhesive strength. In the present study, an adhesive strength of 17 N/12 mm was achieved by degreasing and etching pretreatment, followed by a sealing process of 10 min duration. This adhesive strength was greater than that achievable using Cr (chromium) surface treatment. Using various surface analysis techniques, the shape and composition of the surface before and after being subjected to the surface treatment were compared and analyzed. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of an eco-friendly lead tab.
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate performance on reducing the chloride diffusion of surface treatment systems with elapsed time, treatment thickness, treatment frequency, and the types of surface treatment - coating, penetrator, and both all. Based on this paper, the guideline to applicate surface treatment systems will be established and comprehended how effective the resistance of chloride diffusion is. The selection of surface treatment materials and thickness to acquire service life of target will be possible. It is also expected to select optimum surface treatment system groups to resist chloride diffusion effectively and to estimate increased service life as the effect of durability enhancement.
This study done to evaluate some surface treatment methods in metal coping which can increase the bond strength between porcelain and metal. Therefore this experiment was performed according to the Mc Lean's Theory of bond strength between porcelain and strength between porcelain and metal. In the experiment the author measured respective thermal expansion coefficents in three types of metal(Tallasium, Vera Bond and Rexillium) and Vita Porcelain to get the differences in the coefficents between porcelain and metals. And using insteron testing machine, the author also performed Planar interface shear bond tests on the 45 specimens(15 specimens in oxide surface, rough surface and fine surface treatment methods respectively) to measure bond strength between metal and porcelain. The results Were as follows, 1. The differences in thermal expansion coefficients between three types of metal and Vita procelain: Talladium - $1.2\;10^{-6/0}\;C$, Vera Bond - $1.6\;10^{-6/0}\;C$, Rexillium - $1.9\;10^{-6/0}\;C$. 2. The bond strength in oxide surface on the Shear bond test was the lowest among the treatment methods. 3. There was no significant differences in treatment methods of rough surface of fine surface. 4. In the oxide surface treatment method, there were significant differences(P<0.05)between Vera bond and Rexillium, and between Talladium and Rexillium. 5. In the fine surface treatment, there was a significant difference(P<0.05)between Talladium and Rexillium.
In this paper, single fiber pull-out test is used to measure the interfacial bonding shear strength of $Ti_{50}-Ni_{50}$ shape memory alloy composite with temperature. Fiber and matrix of $Ti_{50}-Ni_{50}$ shape memory alloy composite are respectively $Ti_{50}-Ni_{50}$ shape memory alloy and epoxy resin. To strengthen the interfacial bonding shear stress, various surface treatments are used. They are the hand-sanded surface treatment, the acid etched surface treatment and the silane coupled surface treatment etc.. The interfacial bonding shear strength of surface treated shape memory alloy fiber is greater than that of surface untreated shape memory alloy fiber by from 10% to 16%. It is assured that the hand-sanded surface treatment and the acid etched surface treatment are the best way to strengthen the interfacial bonding shear strength of $Ti_{50}-Ni_{50}$ shape memory composite. The best treatment condition of surface is 10% HNO$_3$ solution in the etching method to strengthen the interfacial bonding shear strength of $Ti_{50}-Ni_{50}$ shape memory alloy composite.
PURPOSE. To investigate the effect of sintering programs and surface treatments on surface properties, phase transformation and flexural strength of monolithic zirconia. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Zirconia specimens were sintered using three distinct sintering programs [classic (C), speed (S), and superspeed (SS)] (n = 56, each). One sample from each group underwent scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and grain size analysis following sintering. Remaining samples were divided into five subgroups (n = 11) based on the surface treatments: control (CL), polish (P), glaze (G), grind + polish (GP), and grind + glaze (GG). One sample from each subgroup underwent SEM analysis. Remaining samples were thermally aged. Monoclinic phase volume, surface roughness, and three-point flexural strength were measured. Monoclinic phase volume and surface roughness were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn tests. Flexural strength was analyzed by two-way ANOVA and Weibull analysis. The relationships among the groups were analyzed using Spearman's correlation analysis. RESULTS. Sintering program, surface treatment, and sintering × surface treatment (P ≤ .010) affected the monoclinic phase volume, whereas the type of surface treatment and sintering × surface treatment affected the surface roughness (P < .001). Type of sintering program or surface treatment did not affect the flexural strength. Weibull analysis revealed no significant differences between the m and σo values. Monoclinic phase volume was positively correlated with surface roughness in the SGG and SSP groups. CONCLUSION. After sintering monolithic zirconia in each of the three sintering programs, each of the surface treatments can be used. However, for surface quality and aging resistance, G or GG can be recommended as a surface finishing method.
In this study, the surface properties of PET film were analyzed after plasma surface treatment. After plasma treatment of surface roughness and XPS were evaluated to analyze the chemical property, while the surface potential decay and surface resistance rate was measured to analyze the electric관 characteristic. When plasma discharge treatment was conducted for less than 10 minutes, the electrical insulating property was improved by evaporation of low molecular weight materials and cleaning of surface. However, when the treatment was conducted for more than 10 minutes, the insulating property was decreased due to excessive discharge energy. Analyses of chemical characteristics showed that 10-minute treatment resulted in increase of C-O and O=C-O bonds. However, when treated for more than 10 minutes. they were relatively decreased.
The present study investigated the effect of heat treatment process on the surface wettability of an Al-Si-Mg alloy. After solution-treated at $525^{\circ}C$ and aged at $160^{\circ}C$, the alloy showed high hardness due to the formation of precipitates. In addition, surface wettability was improved in such a way that the contact angle of distilled water droplet on the flat surface decreased to $37.6{\sim}42.1^{\circ}$ after the heat treatment. The surface energy predicted by Owens-Wendt equation also confirmed the increase of surface energy after the heat-treatment. However, when the surface roughness increased, the positive effect of the heat treatment on wettability diminished due to the geometrical factors of the rough surface.

In this study, the atmospheric plasma treatment with $He/O_2$ was conducted to modify the surface chemistry of carbon fibers. The effects of plasma treatment parameters on the surface energetics of carbon fibers were experimentally investigated with respect to gas flow ratio, power intensity, and treatment time. Surface characteristics of the carbon fibers were determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), Zeta-potential, and contact angle measurements. The results indicated that oxygen plasma treatment led to a large amount of reactive functional groups onto the fiber surface, and these groups can form together as physical intermolecular bonding to improve the surface wettability with a hydrophilic polymer matrix.
On the purpose of surface modifications of polypropylene meltblown(PPMB) nonwovens, PPMB nonwovens were treated in the plasma system by oxygen atmosphere with different treatment time and discharge power. Dimensional change and physical properties of the treated nonwovens were evaluated. Contact angles onto PPMB nonwovens about water and methyleneiodide were measured and surface energies were calculated by Owen's method. As the results, microcraters were observed on the surface of treated nonwovens. Tenacity and breaking strain of PPMB nonwovens decreased with increasing treatment time and discharge power. Surface energy of PPMB nonwovens increased by plasma treatment. Meanwhile, the friction static voltage and dyeability of PPMB nonwovens have enhanced to some extent by oxygen plasma treatment due to the improvement of surface hydrophilicity.
Mechanical structures of military equipment have been mainly applied with black oxide coating due to the limitation of surface treatment thickness. However, the mechanical structures applied by the black oxide coating treatment is constantly being corroded by calcium chloride and humidity. Since this can cause serious problems in the operation of equipment, a review to improve surface treatment and corrosion resistance is required. Therefore, in this study, surface treatment methods that can enhance corrosion resistance were selected and corrosion resistance performance was verified through experiments describing harsh field conditions. Thus, applying a proven surface treatment method to future military equipment will prevent corrosion.
