Discoloration of canned boiled oyster namely greening, yellowing and browning often occur separately or associatively in the storage of the product. Greening is mainly caused by the appearance of chlorophyll and its derivatives on the surface around the digestive diverticula of the oyster and yellowing by dispersion of carotenoid. Browning reactions by sugar amino condensation or enzymatic action, tyrosinase, also cause an undesirable color development. In this paper, the stability and the changes in distributional or partitional ratio of chlorophyll and carotenoid pigment of meat vs viscera in raw and canned oyster during six month storage in order to measure the dispersion rate of both pigments between meat and viscera, and to evaluate the feasibility of discoloration of oyster meat. The development of brownish pigment and the toss of free tyrosine in oyster were also determined to compare the readiness of color development. In addition the influence of processing and storage conditions to the dispersion rate and the tendency of discoloration, and finally the effect of inhibitor were discussed. The results showed that greening or yellowing was initiated by the dispersion of chlorophyll or carotenoids from viscera to the meat of oyster, and the dispersion rate of carotenoid was much higher than the chlorophyll's, so that, yellowing appeared a leading reaction of discoloration. The dispersion rate was obviously fastened by raising the temperature in the process of sterilization and storage. Consequently, the low temperature storage could largely retard the occurance of yellowing or greening of oyster meat. The pH control of canned oyster did not seem to affect the dispersion of pigment but significantly did on the stability of the piqments. Browning by the reaction of sugar-amino condensation and enzymatic oxidation of tyrosine was positively detected in canned oyster meat. The development of brownish color was influenced rather by the storage temperature than the heating process. Addition of sodium sulfite in can or treating the boiled oyster with sulfite solution prior to filling seemed possibly inhibit the color development particularly in cold-storaged oyster meat.

Traditional method of pulpectomy for a necrotic primary anterior tooth was done on lingual side. But it could not recover the discoloration of crown effectively. For the purpose of treating the discoloration of crown after lingual pulpectomy, additional methods of crown restoration were needed like : celluloid crown, open-faced crown, rasin-faced crown. Neverthless, these kinds of complete coverage methods had some disadvantages such as possibility of tooth fracture by increased tooth preparation. In order to overcome the shortcomings of lingual pulpectomy, labial treatment could be considered as an alternative. It is a method that treats necrotic pulp through the labial access opening. After finishing the pulp treatment, discolored labial tooth structure was removed extending from access opening. Discoloration of deep area could be masked effectively using opaque sealant. Cavity on labial side was restored with composite resin. This labial approach method has several advantages. First, it gives a direct vision for effective pulp treatment which is also very useful for children with poor behavior. Second, most of lingual tooth structure could be saved and occlusal contact of lingual surface remains undisrupted. Only nonfunctional discolored labial surface may removed. Third, complete removal of discolored part of a labial tooth and immediate resin restoration could be done effectively after pulp treatment. Moreover, it also could be used for pulp treatment having serious dental caries on labial surface with sound lingual tooth structure. This report presents cases with discolored upper anteior primary tooth, approaching labial side with successful restoration.
The biodeterioration on Iksan Mireuksaji pagoda has been studied with fucus on application of K201 as a chemical treatment. Total of 39species, including 10 algae, 16 lichens, 6 mosses and 7 unidentified bacteria and fungi, were collected and identified on the surface of the pagoda. Most of them caused serious discoloration on the surface. The effectiveness and stability of K201 was examined by applying it on some part of the pagoda. A mild spraying of solution diluted to half of original reagent was good enough to eliminate all the deteriorating species on the surface. Most of discoloration disappeared after the treatment except the red color caused by iron substance. The effectiveness of the regent was compared with water wash. The stone was first washed with water and the dirt on the surface was scrubbed off from the surface. The initial surface of the stone was clearer in water wash. However, many of the deteriorating species reappear in 4 weeks after water wash. Although spraying of the reagent K201 could noteliminate all the remnant of dead organisms as good as scrubbing the surface, no deteriorating algae or lichen was observed until two month after treatment. Therefore, spraying method with chemicals seems more stable and reliable way to remove the biodeterioration than physical scrubbing of the surface.

Dentinogenesis imperfecta is an example of an inheritable dentinal defect originating during the histodifferentiation stage of tooth development, with involvement of the primary and permanent teeth. Shields, Bixler and El-Kafrawy proposed three types of Dentinogenesis imperfecta : Type I, II, III. Witkop reported a prevalence of 1 in 8000 with the trait, and no significant difference between male and female. Affected teeth have red-brown discoloration often with distinctive wearness of occlusal surface of posterior teeth and incisal surface of anterior teeth. Once enamel seperated from underlying defective dentin, the dentin demonstrates significantly acclerated attrision. Radiographically, the teeth have thin roots, bulbous crown, cervical constriction, and obliteration of the root canals and pulp chambers. In primary dentition periapical lesions or multiple root fractures are often observed. In successive generations the phenotypes of discoloration and wearness of teeth occurred, and one of the patient's subships, 10 year-old sister, showed general discoloration of her teeth and mild wearness. In this case, a 4 year-old male reported to the Yonsei University Pedodontics clinic, with a chief complaint of discolored teeth. The teeth showed generally yellowish-brown discoloration and moderate wearness. In radiographic features, obliteration of pulp, bulbous crown, and short roots were observed. It was diagnosed as Dentinogenesis imperfecta. The posterior teeth were restored with Stainless Steel Crown, and defective incisors including left upper primary central incisor which was extracted due to a root fracture with Open-faced Stainless Steel crown.
As the test results for surface color, dyeing durability, antibiosis of cotton fabrics and silk fabrics dyed with Agastache rugosa extract, the following conclusions were obtained. The surface color of all the dyed fabrics was confirmed mostly as a GY system. As the result of chrominance(${\Delta}E_{ab}$) measurement, in the case of cotton fabrics the dyed fabrics treated with $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ mordant showed the highest value and in the case of silk fabrics the non-mordant dyed fabrics showed the highest value. The dyeing durability of test fabrics dyed with Agastache rugosa extract are as follows. As the test results of colorfastness to laundry for cotton dyed fabrics, the discoloration degree showed 1st-2nd grade and the contamination degree showed 4th-5th grade. As the test result of colorfastness to dry cleaning for silk dyed fabrics, the contamination degree showed from 1st to 3rd-4th grade. As the test results of colorfastness to acid artificial perspiration, the discoloration degree showed from 1st to 3rd-4th grade and the contamination degree showed from 3rd to 4th-5th grade. As the test results of colorfastness to alkaline artificial perspiration, the discoloration degree showed from 1st to 4th grade and the contamination degree showed from 3rd to 4th-5th grade. The colorfastness to sunlight showed from 1st to 2nd grade. The colorfastness to rubbing showed from 3rd to 4th-5th grade in dry process and from 2nd-3rd to 4th-5th grade in wet process. As the test results of antibiosis, the decrease rate of germs to virus Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus showed at least more than 99% after the wash of 10 times. As the test results of antifungal activity to mycete Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Aspergillus niger, the both cotton and silk dyed fabrics didn't gain the significant antifungal effect.
Purpose: To evaluate reliability of Q-ray view (Aiobio Inc,. Seoul, Korea) for assessing retention status of pit and fissure sealants. Methods: Pit and fissure sealants of 58 permanent molars from 15 third-grade students were examined. Posterior teeth with ≥1 pit and fissure sealants applied to the occlusal surface for >6 months were examined. The teeth were examined using traditional visual-tactile assessments and combined Q-ray view. Pit and fissure sealants were evaluated by assessing marginal plaque, marginal discoloration, marginal integrity, retention, and presence of caries. Fleiss kappa and Cohen's kappa values were calculated to compare inter- and intrarater agreements between visual-tactile and combined Q-ray view assessments. Results: Regarding interrater agreement in visual-tactile assessments, K values of Cohen's kappa for marginal plaque, marginal discoloration, and presence of caries were 0.22-0.57, 0.36-0.57, and 0.43-0.61, respectively, and agreements ranged from slight to moderate. When combined with Q-ray view, the values were 0.81-0.89, 0.69-0.88, and 0.80-0.90, respectively, and agreements ranged from substantial to nearly perfect level, indicating statistical significance. Marginal plaque (0.81-0.83), marginal discoloration (0.57-0.89), and presence of caries (0.69-0.91) showed higher agreements in combined Q-ray view than in visual-tactile assessments, and kappa values of marginal plaques were significantly higher in combined Q-ray view than in visual-tactile assessments. Conclusion: Evaluating retention status of pit and fissure sealants using Q-ray view showed higher reliability than using visual/tactile assessments for marginal plaque, marginal discoloration, and presence of caries. Therefore, Q-ray view may be used to assess the retention status of pit and fissure sealants.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess coronal discoloration induced by the following intracanal medicaments: calcium hydroxide (CH), a mixture of CH paste and chlorhexidine gel (CH/CHX), and triple antibiotic paste (3Mix). Materials and Methods: Seventy extracted single-canal teeth were selected. Access cavities were prepared and each canal was instrumented with a rotary ProTaper system. The specimens were randomly assigned to CH, CH/CHX, and 3Mix paste experimental groups (n = 20 each) or a control group (n = 10). Each experimental group was randomly divided into 2 subgroups (A and B). In subgroup A, medicaments were only applied to the root canals, while in subgroup B, the root canals were completely filled with medicaments and a cotton pellet dipped in medicament was also placed in the pulp chamber. Spectrophotometric readings were obtained from the mid-buccal surface of the tooth crowns immediately after placing the medicaments (T1) and at 1 week (T2), 1 month (T3), and 3 months (T4) after filling. The ${\Delta}E$ was then calculated. Data were analyzed using 2-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), 3-way ANOVA, and the $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ post hoc test. Results: The greatest color change (${\Delta}E$) was observed at 3 months (p < 0.0001) and in 3Mix subgroup B (p = 0.0057). No significant color change occurred in the CH (p = 0.7865) or CH/CHX (p = 0.1367) groups over time, but the 3Mix group showed a significant ${\Delta}E$ (p = 0.0164). Conclusion: Intracanal medicaments may induce tooth discoloration. Use of 3Mix must be short and it must be carefully applied only to the root canals; the access cavity should be thoroughly cleaned afterwards.
The Gyeongju Seokbinggo (Treasure No. 66) is an ice-storing stone warehouse, consisting mainly of alkaligranite which shows milky white color and medium-grained textures with drusy cavities. As results of deterioration assessment, the deterioration rates were determined as crack (12.5%), disjoining (6.7%), breaking-out (25.1%), exfoliation (20.9%), efflorescence (6.5%), brown discoloration (9.8%), darkgray discoloration (2.0%) and biological discoloration (36.5%). Comprehensive physical deterioration rate and discoloration rate were calculated as 43.7% and 68.7%, respectively, that indicates the Seokbinggo has been severely weathered. Indoor relative humidity was above 90% except in winter season. Indoor microclimate was hardly fluctuating although indoor microclimate was dependent on the outdoor climate. The main cause of deterioration was high relative humidity and a long time of wetness due to penetration of rain, underground water and condensation. It was identified that the water brought out biological discoloration, dissolution of minerals, structural movement and efflorescence, and the dust from the ground soil in front of the entrance accelerated brown and dark gray discoloration on the stone surface.

In order to analyze the degradation process of epoxy/glass fiber for outdoor condition, FRP laminate was exposed to high temperature. Then, the degradation process was evaluated by comparing contact angle, surface potential, surface resistivity, and XPS. The experimental results showed that the amount of weight loss, contact angle, surface potential and surface resistivity increased up to 200 $^{\circ}C$ as a function of temperature. These phenomena show the existence of hydrophobic surface. With the change to the hydrophobic surface and the electrical potential and resistivity on FRP surface increased. In XPS to analyze surface chemical structures, the increased hydrophobicity in thermal increase of unsaturated double bond in carbon chains. Aslo, thermal treatment caused the discoloration on the point of treated surface. These phenomena were attributed to the generations of ether group.

Vacuum cooling were carried out for freshness keeping of shiitake mushroom. Shiitake mushroom was cooled within 30 minutes from $20.5^{\circ}C$ to $0.5^{\circ}C$ by vacuum cooling, and then temperature drop of $6.6^{\circ}C$ per weight loss of 1% was taken place during precooling. Weight loss, surface discoloration and softening were reduced by precooling. Judging from organoleptic properties such as cap opening, discoloration, texture and off-flavor, shelf-life of precooled mushroom was lengthed by 20% than that of non-treated mushrooms. Considering effect of packing material on freshness of shiitake mushroom after precooling, weight retention, hardness and organoleptic properties of mushroom packed with PVC wrap were superior to those packed in carton box.
