The coating N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) on gold surfaces may be used to design the distribution of either gold particle adsorbed to the $ZrO_2$ surface or vice versa by adjusting the electrostatic interactions. In this study, it was performed to find out electrostatic properties of the NAC-coated-gold surface and the $ZrO_2$ surface. The surface forces between the surfaces were measured as a function of the salt concentration and pH value using the AFM. By applying the Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO) theory to the surface forces, the surface potential and charge density of the surfaces were quantitatively acquired for each salt concentration and each pH value. The dependence of the potential and charge density on the concentration was explained with the law of mass action, and the pH dependence was with the ionizable groups on the surface.
Lead-tin-copper ternary alloy electrodeposition is conducted onto the inner bore surface of plain bearings as an overlay in order to investigate the effect of slot width, current density and fluoboric acid concentration on the uniformity of overlay. The thickness of overlay is analyzed by means of current distribution resulting from the overvoltage of plating bath and the apparent distance between cathode and anode. The result demonstrate that the uniformity of overlay is remarkably dependent of the slot size and current density, but has little bearing on the fluoboric acid concentration over 100g/L. This present study indicates that uniform overlay is obtainable within the tolerable thickness of ${\pm}2{\mu}m$ by using the slot width of 22mm. The surface morphology examination also shows the important role of concentration polarization of the micro-uniformity of overlay. The micro-uniformity has improved at the low concentration polarization which resulted from operating at the low current density and high fluoboric acid concentration. The surface morphology of deposits exhibits the vivid pyramid crystalline in the plating condition of low concentration polarizatio and all deposits have columnar structure parallel to the applied electric field regardless of the electroplating condition used.
This study is to set a new standard for using of the colorimetric method through grasping the character of the colorimetric method, and measuring the chloride concentration at the place of the change of color. Also, to predict chloride concentration around rebar and time reaching limit chloride concentration through measuring the chloride concentration of concrete surface by the colorimetric method and this study presents the new program of concrete degradation and diagnosis of the durability by salt damage. First the use of the colorimetric method was examinated, second the chloride concentration through slicing concrete submerged in artificial seawater for 6 months was measured. And the chloride concentration at the place of the change of color was calculated by using colorimetric method. Finally, the cloride concentration of the concrete surface was calculated.
Pre-foaming, one of the manufacturing way of foamed concrete, is influenced by foaming agent. When the foaming agent diluted with water, surface tension and viscosity are varied. Therefore, this study is reviewing the surface tension, viscosity and unit weight of foam by experimental factor such as foaming agent types(AES, AOS, VS FP) and foam agent dilution concentration (1, 3, 5%) and temperature of materials (5, 10, 20℃). As an expeimental result, the surface tension and viscosity slightly increased with increasing concentrations. Meanwhile, when increasing temperature, the viscosity has decreased. FP produce relatively stable foams only in case 3% or more, which produce unstable foams containing large amount of water content by decreasing only insignificant surface tension when diluted at concentration of 1%.
Surface oxides and intergranular (IG) oxidation phenomena in Alloy 600 depending on hydrogen concentration were characterized to obtain clear insight into the primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) behavior upon exposure to pressurized water reactor primary water. When hydrogen concentration was between 5 and 30 cm3 H2/kg H2O, NiFe2O4 and NiO type oxides were found on the surface. NiO type oxides were found inside the oxidized grain boundary when hydrogen concentration was 5 cm3 H2/kg H2O. However, only NiFe2O4 spinel on the surface and Ni enrichment were observed when hydrogen concentration was 30 cm3 H2/kg H2O. These results indicate that the oxidation/reduction reaction of Ni in Alloy 600 depending on hydrogen concentration can considerably affect surface oxidation behavior. It appears that the formation of NiO type oxides in a Ni oxidation state and Ni enrichment in a Ni reduction (or metallic) state are common in primary water. It is believed that the above different oxidation/reduction reactions of Ni in Alloy 600 depending on hydrogen concentration can also significantly affect the resistance to PWSCC of Alloy 600.
Electrochemical techniques were used to study the surface treatment for improving the pitting corrosion resistance of 304L stainless steel by inhibitors in chloride medium. Sodium molybdate (in concentration range : 0.005-80 g/l) , sodium nitrite (in concentration range : 0.001-50 g/l) and their mixture were used for this study. It was found that, molybdate and nitrite were good passivators for 304L stainless steel, but molybdate was not able to prohibit the pitting ; nitrite prevented pitting corrosion of 304L stainless steel only at the concentration more than 25 g/l. The relationship between pitting potentials and concentrations of inhibitors in the logarithm expression obeyed the linear function. It was found that the surface treatment by mixture of two inhibitors enables stainless steel to have increased the corrosion resistance , the pitting corrosion of 304L stainless steel was completely prohibited by the mixtures of molybdate and nitrite in ratio min, with $m\;\geq\;3\;and\;n\;\geq\;10$. The interesting cases on electrochemical measurement of threshold of inhibitors concentration combination for optimum surface treatment were described.
Formation behavior of PEO (Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation) films on AZ31 Mg alloy was investigated under application of 310 Hz AC as a function of $Na_3PO_4$ concentration from 0.02 M to 0.2 M. Film formation voltage and in-situ observation of arcs generated on the specimen surface were recorded with time, and surface morphologies of the PEO films were investigated using optical microscopy, confocal scanning laser microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. PEO film formation voltage decreased linearly with increasing $Na_3PO_4$ concentration which is attributed to the increase of solution pH. PEO films were grown uniformly over the entire surface in $Na_3PO_4$ solutions between 0.05 M and 0.1 M. However, non-uniform PEO films with white spots were formed in $Na_3PO_4$ solutions containing more than 0.1 M. Thickness and roughness of PEO films on AZ31 Mg alloy increased linearly with increasing $Na_3PO_4$ concentration and their increasing rates appeared to be much higher under 1 M than above 1 M. The experimental results suggest that phosphate ions can contribute to the formation of PEO films but higher $Na_3PO_4$ concentration more than 1 M results in local damages of PEO films due to repeated generation of white arcs at the same surface site of AZ31 Mg alloy.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the surface roughness of Ni-Cr-Be alloy($Verabond^{(R)}$, Aalba Dent Inc., USA) according to electrolyte concentration and etching time. Total of 150 metal specimens ($12{\times}10{\times}1.5mm$) composed of 5 polisded specimens, 5 sandblasted specimens, 140 etched specimens were prepared. Etched groups were divided into 28 groups by the $HClO_4$ concentrations(10, 30, 50, 70%) and etching times(15, 30, 60, 120, 180, 240, 300 seconds). The mean surface roughness(Ra) and the etching depth were measured with Optical 3-dimensional surface roughness measuring machine(Accura 1500M, Intek Engineering Co., Korea) and observed under SEM. The results obtaind were as follows: 1. Surface roughness(Ra) and etching depth were affected by the order of etching time, electrolyte concentration, and their interaction(P<0.05). 2. Surface roughness(Ra) and etching depth were increased with etching time in 10%, 30% electrolyte concentrations, but they had no significant difference with etching time in 70% (P<0.05). 3. Surface roughness(Ra) and etching depth decreased in the order of 30, 10, 50, 70% electrolyte concentrations from 120 seconds etching time(P<0.05). 4. The remarkable morphologic changes in etched surface were observed along the grain boundaries in 15, 30 seconds of 10%, 30% concentrations and the morphologic changes could be denoted in the grains themselves as well as along the boundaries with the lapse of time. Even though the noticeable morphologic changes also took place in etched surface with 50% concentration, the degree of changes were less than that of changes with 10%, 30%. However, there were little morphologic changes with 70% concentration regardless of etching time. 5. Surface roughness(Ra) of sandblasting group with $50{\mu}m\;Al_2O_3$ had no significant difference with 30%-30 seconds etched group(P<0.05).
To provide the clear images from the direct light on electrical board and display devices, anti glare treatment of display cover glass is needed. In this study, the effects of surface treatment temperature, concentration, and etching solution coating thickness of the gel phase on optical elements control such as gloss, haze of reflected light and transmittance, were investigated. Cover glasses were treated at different coating thickness and additive concentration. The optical properties were examined using spectrophotometer, gloss and haze meter. The surface morphology and roughness were measured by the optical microscope and Ra measuring instrument. The etching rate and surface morphologies were dramatically affected by the concentration of acid additive in the viscous gel because of re-crystallization of components in the etching solution, hydrogel formation and coagulant after coating on glass substrate. In our experimental range, cover glass which is surface-treated with various optical properties as well as the morphology uniformity was obtained; in particular, optical properties could be controlled by etching solution coating thickness of the gel phase and the concentration of additive. The gloss was depended on the surface roughness and it showed the linear relationship between optical transmittance and haze of reflected light, respectively.
