Effect of Pretreatments on Reducing Surface Cracks of Heat-treated Western Hemlock Roundwoods

  • A large diameter roundwood is an important element of Korean traditional buildings, Hanok, and is hard to be dried without surface cracks. Four different pretreatments, such as pre-cracking, oil heating, kerfing-oil heating and PEG impregnation, were investigated for reducing the surface cracks of large-diameter roundwood specimens during heat treatment. The roundwood specimens of pre-cracking, oil heating and kerfing-oil heating showed surface cracks during pretreatment, but that of PEG impregnation did not. It was confirmed that kerfing reduced the total crack width. Among the four pretreatments and control only the PEG impregnation roundwood specimen had no crack on both outer and inner surfaces after heat treatment. The PEG impregnation specimen shrank only 1.6% in the tangential direction while the pre-cracking did 8.0%.

알루미늄 熔接構造物의 變形橋正을 위한 Autogeneous GTAW의 適用 可能性 硏究 (A Feasibility Study on the Use of Autogeneous GTAW for Correction of Distortions in Welded Aluminum Alloy Structures)

  • Characteristics of two correcting methods, a new Autogeneous GTAW heating (TIG) method and the conventional GMAW bead-on plate welding(MIG) method, for distorted aluminum fabrication structures were studied. As a result of microscopic study of Autogeneous GTAW heating and GMAW bead-on plate welding areas, porosities in weld metal and surface cracks in local heating zone were found. Through the mechanical tests, it was verified that porosities decrease tensile strength and surface of distortion, angular displacement and transeverse shrinkage were measures and compared. In order to investigate changes of material properties in heating area and cause of defects such thermal stresses were calculated by ADINA. Through the computations of transient thermal stresses and microscopic observation of fracture surface, thermal stress was found to be the cause of crack during Autogeneous GTAW heating.

저전력 및 고효율 면상발열체를 위한 피치기반 탄소종이 제조 및 특성 (Preparation and Characterization of Pitch-based Carbon Paper for Low Energy and High Efficiency Surface Heating Elements)

  • 본 연구에서는 면상발열체 특성을 향상시키기 위해 피치계 탄소종이에 전도성 탄소필러로 석유계 코크스, 카본블랙, 흑연을 페놀수지와 함께 함침시켰으며, 탄소종이에 함침된 탄소필러가 물리화학적 성질에 미치는 영향을 전기적, 열적 특성 분석을 통해 고찰하였다. 그 결과, 면저항과 계면접촉저항이 선형적으로 감소하였으며, 탄소필러의 함량이 증가함으로써 전기전도도와 열전도도가 향상하였다. 또한, 탄소종이에 1~5 V 전압을 인가하였을 경우 탄소종이의 면상발열 특성을 관찰하였을 때 5 V 전압에서 최대 $125.01^{\circ}C$로 발열 특성을 나타내었다. 이러한 결과는 탄소섬유 사이에 존재하는 미세공극이 채워짐으로써, 전기적 네트워크가 형성되어 전기적 및 열적 특성이 향상되었기 때문이다.

  • 본 연구에서는 압축 성형다이 가열선의 최적위치를 결정하는 문제를 다이의 형상 최적설계 문제로 정식화하고자 한다. 최적화 문제의 목적은 다이 내면의 온도를 지정된 온도로 균일하게 유지하는 것이다. 또한 Lee, Choi와 Kwak의 형상 설계 민감 도 해석을 위한 직접 미분 방법을 응용하여 가열선 위치변화에 관한 민감도 계산을 위한 경계 적분 방정식을 유도하고, 경계요소법으로 온도와 온도의 민감도를 해석하고 자 한다. 수치적 응용의 예로서, 넓은 평판의 성형을 위한 압축 성형다이의 가열선의 최적위치를 결정하는 문제를 다루고, 최적위치에서 가열선의 개수가 온도의 균일성에 미치는 영향을 검토한다.

터널 라이닝 표면에 부착된 발열체로 인한 내부 온도 변화의 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Internal Temperature Change Induced by Heating Element Attached to Tunnel Lining Surface)

  • 한랭지역에 건설된 터널은 낮은 기온으로 인하여 콘크리트 라이닝 배면의 동결이 발생하게 되며, 콘크리트 라이닝의 손상을 발생시켜 터널구조물의 내구성을 감소시킨다. 터널 라이닝 배면 지반의 동결을 억제시키기 위하여 터널 라이닝 표면에 발열체를 부착하고 일정시간 동안 발열시켜 콘크리트 라이닝 내부의 온도변화를 측정하였다. 냉동챔버를 제작하여 현장현황을 모사하고 발열체는 탄소나노튜브(CNT, Carbon Nano Tube) 재료를 플레이트로 제작하여 표면에 부착하고 전기공급을 통해 발열시켰다. 발열체를 발열시킴에 따라 콘크리트 라이닝의 내부 위치별 온도변화 분포를 측정하였으며, 외기온도 및 발열온도의 유지시간에 따른 영향을 분석하였다.

Proposal of residual stress mitigation in nuclear safety-related austenitic stainless steel TP304 pipe bended by local induction heating process via elastic-plastic finite element analysis

  • This paper proposes a residual stress mitigation of a nuclear safety-related austenitic stainless steel TP304 pipe bended by local induction heating process via performing elastic-plastic finite element analysis. Residual stress distributions of the pipe bend were calculated by performing finite element analysis. Validity of the finite element analysis procedure was verified via comparing with temperature histories measured by using thermocouples, ultrasonic thickness measurement results, and residual stress measurement results by a hole-drilling method. Parametric finite element stress analysis was performed to investigate effects of the process and geometric shape variables on the residual stresses on inner surfaces of the pipe by applying the verified procedure. As a result of the parametric analysis, it was found that it is difficult to considerably reduce the inner surface residual stresses by changing the existing process and geometric shape variables. So, in order to mitigate the residual stresses, effect of an additional process such as cooling after the bending on the residual stresses was investigated. Finally, it was identified that the additional heating after the bending can significantly reduce the residual stresses while other variables have insignificant effect.

사출법으로 제조된 자동차 내장부품의 표면특성 개선 연구 (Improved Surface Characteristics of Automotive Interior Parts Fabricated by Injection Molding Method)

  • The environmental pollution which is global warming and abnormal climate is caused by increasing population and activated economics. To reduce environmental pollution, we have being efforts into reducing $CO_2$ emission and use of energy, resources. Especially, for the sake of light weight and fuel efficiency of automotive industry, many countries have defined the restrict environmental regulation which stipulate high magnitude of reducing $CO_2$ emission. In this study, we have predicted the problem of Mu-cell injection molding through the finite element analysis as a function of temperature controlled by Joule heating or in terms of mold temperature. From the result of finite element analysis, we have determined the optimized process and made the injection mold included electric current heating system with Mu-cell manufacturing. Lastly, we analyzed the surface characteristics of the injection products with mold temperature.

  • Finite element equations by using fast Fourier transformation were formulated for studying temperatures resulting from frictional heating in sliding systems. The equations include the effect of velocity of moving components. The program developed by using FFT-FEM that combines Fourier transform techniques and the finite element method, was applied to the sliding bearing system. Numerical prediction obtained by FFT-FEM was in an excellent agreement of experimental temperature measurements.

Numerical and Experimental Investigation of the Heating Process of Glass Thermal Slumping

  • The glass thermal forming process provides a high volume, low cost approach to producing aspherical reflectors for x-ray optics. Thin glass sheets are shaped into mirror segments by replicating the mold shape at high temperature. Heating parameters in the glass thermal slumping process are crucial to improve surface quality of the formed glass. In this research, the heating process of a thermal slumping glass sheet on a concave parabolic mold was simulated with the finite-element method (FEM) to investigate the effects of heating rate and soaking temperature. Based on the optimized heating conditions, glass samples 0.5 mm thick were formed in a furnace with a steel concave parabolic mold. The figure errors of the formed glass were measured and discussed in detail. It was found that the formed glass was not fully slumped at the edges, and should be trimmed to achieve better surface deviation. The root-mean-square (RMS) deviation and peak-valley (PV) deviation between formed glass and mold along the axial direction were 2.3 μm and 4.7 μm respectively.
