The purpose of this study is to evaluate the inter-laminar fracture toughness characteristics of CFRP pultrusion spar cap materials reinforced with non-woven glass fabric. Test specimens were fabricated by the infusion technique. A non-woven glass fabric and artificial defects were embedded on the middle surface between two pultruded CFRP panels. Double cantilever beam (DCB) and End Notched Flexure (ENF) tests were performed according to ASTM standards. Fracture toughness and crack propagation characteristics were evaluated with load-displacement curves and delamination resistance curves (R-Curve). The fracture toughness results were calculated by compliance calibration (CC) method. The initiation and propagation values of Mode-I critical strain energy release rate value GIc were 1.357 kJ/m2 and 1.397 kJ/m2, respectively, and Mode-II critical strain energy release rate values GIIc were 4.053 kJ/m2 for non-precracked test and 4.547 kJ/m2 for precracked test. It was found that the fracture toughness properties of the CFRP pultrusion spar-cap are influenced by the interface between the layers of CFRP and glass fiber non-woven.
The mechanical properties of the concrete-frozen soil interface play a significant role in the stability and service performance of construction projects in cold regions. Current research mainly focuses on the precast concrete-frozen soil interface, with limited consideration for the more realistic cast-in-place concrete-frozen soil interface. The two construction methods result in completely different contact surface morphologies and exhibit significant differences in mechanical properties. Therefore, this study selects silty clay as the research object and conducts direct shear tests on the concrete-frozen soil interface under conditions of initial water content ranging from 12% to 24%, normal stress from 50 kPa to 300 kPa, and freezing temperature of -3℃. The results indicate that (1) both interface shear stress-displacement curves can be divided into three stages: rapid growth of shear stress, softening of shear stress after peak, and residual stability; (2) the peak strength of both interfaces increases initially and then decreases with an increase in water content, while residual strength is relatively less affected by water content; (3) peak strength and residual strength are linearly positively correlated with normal stress, and the strength of ice bonding is less affected by normal stress; (4) the mechanical properties of the cast-in-place concrete-frozen soil interface are significantly better than those of the precast concrete-frozen soil interface. However, when the water content is high, the former's mechanical performance deteriorates much more than the latter, leading to severe strength loss. Therefore, in practical engineering, cast-in-place concrete construction is preferred in cases of higher negative temperatures and lower water content, while precast concrete construction is considered in cases of lower negative temperatures and higher water content. This study provides reference for the construction of frozen soil-structure interface in cold regions and basic data support for improving the stability and service performance of cold region engineering.

In this study, the SBC system, a new mechanical joint method, was developed to improve the constructability of precast concrete (PC) beam-column connections. The reliability of the finite element analysis model was verified through the comparison of experimental results and FEM analysis results. Recently, the intermediate moment frame, a seismic force resistance system, has served as a ramen structure that resists seismic force through beams and columns and has few load-bearing walls, so it is increasingly being applied to PC warehouses and PC factories with high loads and long spans. However, looking at the existing PC beam-column anchorage details, the wire, strand, and lower main bar are overlapped with the anchorage rebar at the end, so they do not satisfy the joint and anchorage requirements for reinforcing bars (KDS 41 17 00 9.3). Therefore, a mechanical joint method (SBC) was developed to meet the relevant standards and improve constructability. Tensile and bending experiments were conducted to examine structural performance, and a finite element analysis model was created. The load-displacement curve and failure pattern confirmed that both the experimental and analysis results were similar, and it was verified that a reliable finite element analysis model was built. In addition, bending tests showed that the larger the thickness of the bolt joint surface of the SBC, the better its structural performance. It was also determined that the system could improve energy dissipation ability and ductility through buckling and yielding occurring in the SBC.
In order to analyze the distribution of sound fields radiating from a circular plate vibrated by a Langevin transducer, a theoretical analysis model was derived. The boundary conditions of the driving area and fixed boundary area were appropriately applied to the equation of motion of the vibrating plate, which was derived by L. Rayleigh. By calculating the vibration displacement distributed on the surface of the vibrating plate using the derived analysis model and then calculating the sound field formed by the ultrasonic waves radiating from it, it was confirmed that the radiation characteristics vary significantly depending on the area of the vibrating plate. For comparison, a simulation of the same system was performed using the COMSOL program, a finite element method, and showed good agreement with the theoretical calculation results, confirming the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis model derived in thisstudy. It is expected that the theoretical analysis model derived from this study can be used in the design and development of related devices, such as in the ultrasonic chemistry field.

In this study we deal with bending behaviors of a concrete filled tubular(CFT) with various diameter-thickness ratios and concrete strengths. In finite element analysis using a commercial package(LUSAS), the bonding effect between concrete and steel in CFT structures is modeled by applying a joint element for the bonding surface. In order to consider the nonlinearity of concrete and steel tubes, stress-strain curves of the concrete and steel are used for the increased stresses in a plastic domain. The numerical results obtained from the proposed method show good agreement with the experimental data from load-displacement curves of a steel tube under distributed loads. Several parametric studies are focused on structural characteristics of CFT under bending effects for different diameter-thickness ratios and concrete strengths.

The response of a bridge can be influenced by span length, bridge's surface condition, vehicle's weight, and vehicle's velocity. It is difficult to predict accurate behavior of a bridge. In the current standard of specifications, such dynamic effect is defined by impact factor and prescribed to consider live load as to increase design load by means of multiplying this value by live load. However, it is not well understood because the Impact factor method differs from every country. Dynamic, static and pseudo-staitic field loading tests on PSC-I girder bridges were carried out to find out the dynamic property of the bridge. This paper is aimed to figure out actual dynamic property of the bridge by using field loading test. An empirical method based on impact factor is widely used and also argued. Displacement and strain response measured from the tests was compared with one from the empirical method. The former seems to be reasonable since it can consider actual response of a bridge through field tests.
This study discusses the long-term deformation monitoring and shape sensing of bridge girder surfaces with an automated extraction scheme for point clouds in the Region Of Interest (ROI), invariant to the position of a Light Detection And Ranging system (LiDAR). Advanced smart construction necessitates continuous monitoring of the deformation and shape of bridge girders during the construction phase. An automated scheme is proposed for reconstructing geometric model of ROI in the presence of noisy non-stationary background. The proposed scheme involves (i) denoising irrelevant background point clouds using dimensions from the design model, (ii) extracting the outer boundaries of the bridge girder by transforming and processing the point cloud data in a two-dimensional image space, (iii) extracting topology of pre-defined targets using the modified Otsu method, (iv) registering the point clouds to a common reference frame or design coordinate using extracted predefined targets placed outside ROI, and (v) defining the bounding box in the point clouds using corresponding dimensional information of the bridge girder and abutments from the design model. The surface-fitted reconstructed geometric model in the ROI is superposed consistently over a long period to monitor bridge shape and derive deflection during the construction phase, which is highly correlated. The proposed scheme of combining 2D-3D with the design model overcomes the sensitivity of 3D point cloud registration to initial match, which often leads to a local extremum.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of rigidity of post core systems on stress distribution by the theoretical technique, finite element stress-analysis method. Three-dimensional finite element models simulating an endodontically treated maxillary central incisor restored with a zirconia ceramic crown were prepared and 1.5 mm ferrule height was provided. Each model contained cortical bone, trabecular bone, periodontal ligament, 4 mm apical root canal filling, and post-and-core. Six combinations of three parallel type post (zirconia ceramic, glass fiber, and stainless steel) and two core (Paracore and Tetric ceram) materials were evaluated, respectively. A 50 N static occlusal load was applied to the palatal surface of the crown with a $60^{\circ}$angle to the long axis of the tooth. The differences in stress transfer characteristics of the models were analyzed. von Mises stresses were chosen for presentation of results and maximum displacement and hydrostatic pressure were also calculated. An increase of the elastic modulus of the post material increased the stress, but shifted the maximum stress location from the dentin surface to the post material. Buccal side of cervical region (junction of core and crown) of the glass fiber post restored tooth was subjected to the highest stress concentration. Maximum von Mises stress in the remaining radicular tooth structure for low elastic modulus resin core (29.21 MPa) was slightly higher than that for high elastic modulus resin core (29.14 MPa) in case of glass fiber post. Maximum displacement of glass fiber post restored tooth was higher than that of zirconia ceramic or stainless steel post restored tooth.
Purpose: We evaluated the results of operative treatment of tibial plateau fractures using both arthroscopy and fluoroscopy. Materials and Methods: From May 1999 to February 2003, tibial plateau fractures were treated with arthroscopy. Tweenty seven patients are followed up over two years and the average follow-up period was fourty one months. We classified the fractures according to the Schatzker classification. We reduced the fracture over 2mm depression and displacement on articular surface in simple radiologic finding. Firstly, we treated the associated injuries and reduced the fractures using Steinmann pins. Then, we accomplished internal fixation or external fixation. Both the postoperative clinical and radiological results were evaluated by Rasmussen system. Results: In all tweenty seven cases, the fractures were healed completely in average fourty one months. According to Rasmussen classification, we obtained the excellent or good results in 23 cases. An average range of motion was between 2.5 degrees and 130 degrees. However, postoperative infection developed in one case and the other had loss of reduction. Conclusions: We consider that arthroscopically assisted operative treatment of tibial plateau fracture is a useful method. We can reduce joint surface correctly and treat associated injuries with arthroscopy. There are less complications.
The slime formed at the bottom of the borehole causes the excessive displacement and loss of the bearing capacity of the drilled shaft. In this study, the slime meter is developed for the evaluation of the slime based on the electrical properties of the fluid and the slime in the borehole. The slime meter is composed of a probe instrumented with electrodes and temperature sensor and a frame with rotary encoder, so that the slime meter profiles the electrical resistivity compensated with temperature effect along the depth. For the application of the slime meter, three field tests are conducted at a borehole with a diameter of 3 m and a depth of 46.9 m with different testing time and locations. For all the tests, the experimental results show that while electrical resistivities are constantly measured in the fluid, the electrical resistivities sharply increase at the surface of the slime. Therefore, the slime thicknesses are estimated by the differences in the depths of the slime surface and the ground excavation. The experimental results obtained at the same testing point with different testing time show that the estimated thickness of the slime increases by the elapsed time. Also, the estimated slime at the side of the borehole is thicker than that at the center of the borehole. As the slime meter estimates the slime in the borehole by measuring the electrical resistivity with simple equipment, the slime meter may be effectively used for the evaluation of the slime formed at the bottom of the borehole.
