  • Polymer-like amorphous carbon films were deposited on polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) substrate by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) and their water vapor transmission rates (WVTR) were tested. propane was used as precursors. To make a polymer-like amorphous carbon film the deposition rate, surface roughness, light transmittance, and WVTR of the films were characterized as a function of the precursor feed ratio and plasma power. The water vapor transmission rates of bare PEN film and single layer PAC on PEN substrate were 6.95 g/m2/day and 0.3 g/m2/day, respectively. The superior property the water vapor permeability of thin layers of PAC was attributed to uniform coverage and good adhesion between PAC film and PEN substrate.

  • We investigated the characterizations of carbon films fabricated by dual magnetron sputtering under various RF powers for the improvement of physical properties in carbon fiber (CF). All sputtered carbon films exhibited amorphous structure, regardless of RF powers, resulting in uniform and smooth surfaces. The hardness and elastic modulus are increased with the increase of RF power, and the adhesion and friction properties of carbon films were improved with the increase of RF power. In the results, The increase of RF power in the sputtering method improved tribological properties of the carbon films, and these attributes can be expected to improve the physical properties of the carbon fiber reinforcement plastics.

  • It is well known that the interaction and adhesion between the glass fiber (GF) and polymer matrix has a significant effect in determining the properties of fiber-reinforced materials. Therefore, it is one of important considerations to modify the surface of glass fiber with an appropriate sizing. We investigated the treatment method of glass fiber with coupling agent to improve the interaction of the interfacial region. The correlation between interfacial property and interphase microstructure was also examined in an attempt to realize a proper morphology at the glass fiber surfaces.

  • Prepackaged system consists out of a dry mix which contains cement, sand, redispersible polymer powder and admixtures in the right proportions. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quality of prepackaged-type polymer-modified mortar products using redispersible poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate)(EVA) powder. Polymer-modified mortars using the redispersible polymer powder with powdered with powdered shrinkage-reducing agent were prepared with cellulose fiber contents of 0, 0.5, 1.0% and shrinkage-reducing agent contents of 0, 4%, and tested for drying shrinkage, strength, adhesion in tension, water absorption. From the test results, the prepackaged-type polymer-modified mortar products with 4% of shrinkage-reducing agent content give good properties. and that their properties largely depends on the shrinkage-reducing agent content rather than the cellulose fiber contents.

  • Composite materials have been applied widely in interior panels of buildings and transport vehicles. Recently good fire performance and weight reduction are key issues in the fields. In the present study we investigated effects of processing parameters on the performance of honeycomb sandwich panels, especially peel strength of the panel and fire performance. The processing parameters considered were types of matrix resin, resin contents, panel cure conditions, and surface painting process conditions. The results showed that the higher resin content provides the better peel strength. Controled cure steps are also needed to obtain good pee] strength. Paint processing parameters including base putty thickness and paint drying conditions and paint thickness are important to obtain good paint adhesion and good fire performance.

  • Test results to evaluate the mechanical properties of epoxy-coated bars and corrosion protection characteristics of epoxy coating on the bars are described. The results show good adhesion and abrasion resistance satisfying the requirements in relevant standards. The test results also show that for a coating thickness ranging from 150${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 300${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, satisfactory results are obtained regarding bendability. Cautions shall be required when bending epoxy-coated bars at a high bending degree and at a low temperature. The results of accelerated corrosion tests show good corrosion resistance. However, surface defects from the steel itself and insufficient blast-clean process form weak points resulting blistering or disbonding of the coating. The use of epoxy-coated bars is expected to help protect corrosion of reinforcement and extend the service life of reinforced concrete structures.

  • The characteristics of the induction heating process are analyzed for the joint of nylon and metal. The temperature of metal surface is measured using thermocouples. The relations of temperature and induction heating parameters are analyzed. Heat equation models are constructed and the temperature distribution is predicted using Fluent. The effects of heating parameters on the joint strength are evaluated. Finally, the optimal parameters of induction heating process are proposed as 16kW and 6 seconds.

  • Recently, as the matters of environmental pollution, the energy exhaustion and alternative energy source have become more important issues, around industrial countries and the effort to improve fuel consumption is progressed continuously for decrease of air pollution. In an effort to improve fuel consumption for passenger cars, the study of DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating which is widely known to good wear characteristics come to the forefront. Therefore, in present study, it was investigated to the influence of DLC coating layer for wear characteristics with the piston ring material and then suggested to the development process for advanced automotive engine parts that showed improved wear characteristics. From these results, Finally, it will be contributed to improve the fuel consumption for passenger vehicles.

  • The joint design and manufacture of the composite structure have become an important research area because the structural efficiency of the composite structure is often determined by its joint not by its basic structure. The co-cured joint is an efficient joint technique because both curing and jointing for composite structures are achieved simultaneously. In this paper, the torque capacities of the co-cured tubular lap joint with and without knurling of the pyamid type were experimentally measure. From the experimental resuts, it was found that the excess resin played a role as an adhesive in the co-cured tubular lap joint whose steel adherends were not knurled. Also, it was found that the torque capacity of the co-cured joint was increased as the knurling size of the pyramid type on the surface of the steel adherend was increased.

  • The tetradecameric peptide (K47-K60) near the NH$_2$-terminal region of epithelial-cell adhesion molecule (Ep-CAM) was chosen as antigenic site and a polyclonal antibody was generated, which could recognize Ep-CAM from the mouse colon tissue or the colon cancer cell, CT-26, in Western blot analysis. Then, the fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), a fluorescence dye, was conjugated with the affinity purified Ep-CAM antibody using thiocyanate and the amino groups of FITC and antibody, respectively. The molar ratio of FITC to antibody was estimated approximately 1.86 to 1.00 by measuring the optical densities at 492 nm and 280 nm. Ep-CAM antibody-FITC conjugate was then used for immunohistochemistry of the CT-26 cells. Judging from the shapes formed by fluorescence, the Ep-CAM antibody could delivered FITC to the surface of cells in which Ep-CAM was expressed. This result implies that Ep-CAM antibody could be also used for the tissue-specific delivery of the photosensitizer to the target protein via antigen-antibody interaction.
