  • The volatile organic compounds(VOCs) have been recognized as a major contributor to air pollution. The catalytic oxidation is one of the most important processes for VOCs destruction due to getting high efficiency at low temperature. In this study, monometallic Pt and bimetallic Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir were supported to ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. Xylene, toluene and MEK were used as reactants. The monometallic or bimetallic catalysts were prepared by the excess wetness impregnation method and were characterized by XRD, XPS, TEM and BET analysis. As a result, Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir bimetallic catalysts showed higher conversion than Pt monometallic catalyst. Pt-Ir bimetallic catalyst showed the highest conversion on the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ support. In the VOCs oxidation, Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir bimetallic catalyst had multipoint active sites, so it improved the range of Pt metal state. Therefore, bimetallic catalysts showed higher conversion of VOCs than monometallic ones. In this study, the use of small amount of Ru, Ir to Pt promoted oxidation conversion of VOCs.

  • Activated carbon (AC) was modified by ammonium persulphate or nitric acid, respectively. AC and the modified materials were used as catalyst supports. The oxygen groups were introduced in the supports during the modifications. All the supports were characterized by $N_2$-physisorption, Raman, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and thermogravimetric analysis. Methanol synthesis catalysts were prepared through wet impregnation of copper nitrate and zinc nitrate on the supports followed by thermal decomposition. These catalysts were measured by the means of $N_2$-physisorption, X-ray diffraction, XPS, temperature programmed reduction and TEM tests. The catalytic performances of the prepared catalysts were compared with a commercial catalyst (CZA) in this work. The results showed that the methanol production rate of AC-CZ ($23mmol-CH_3OH/(g-Cu{\cdot}h)$) was higher, on Cu loading basis, than that of CZA ($9mmol-CH_3OH/(g-Cu{\cdot}h)$). We also found that the modification methods produced strong metal-support interactions leading to poor catalytic performance. AC without any modification can prompt the catalytic performance of the resulted catalyst.

  • Nickel catalyst has been used for natural gas reforming with carbon dioxide, In this study, catalyst support used was HY zeolite. The optimum loading of Ni in the catalysts was 13 wt%. The effect of promoters, such as Mg, Mn, and K, was also studied. The addition of promoters to Ni catalyst improved the stability of catalysts and carbon deposition on Ni catalyst was suppressed. The reforming reactivity of promoter-added Ni catalyst was higher than that of Ni catalyst without any promoters. SEM, XRD, BET, TGA and FTIR tests were tried to characterize the catalyst structure before and after reaction.

  • HI decomposition step certainly demand catalytic reaction for efficient production of hydrogen in SI process. Platinum catalyst can apply to HI decomposition reaction as well as hydrogenation or dehydrogenation. Generally, noble metal is used as catalyst which is loaded form for getting high dispersion and wide active area. In this study, Pt was loaded onto zirconia, ceria, alumina, and silica by impregnation method. HI decomposition reaction was carried out under the condition of $450^{\circ}C$, 1atm, and $167.76h^{-1}$ (WHSV) in a fixed bed reactor for measuring catalytic activity. And property of a catalyst was observed by BET, TEM, XRD and chemisoption analysis. On the basis of experimental results, we discussed about conversion of HI according to physical properties of the loaded Pt catalyst onto each support.

  • Highly active and stable nano-sized Ni catalysts supported on MgO-$Al_2O_3$ calcined from hydrotalcite-like materials have been successfully developed with a strong metal to support interaction (SMSI) to enhance the coke resistance in combined $H_2O$ and $CO_2$ reforming of $CH_4$ (CSCRM) for syngas ($H_2$/CO=2) production. The change of the surface area and NiO crystallite size with varying the pre-calcination temperature of support and Mgo content was investigated in relation to the coke resistance. As increasing the pre-calcination temperature, the surface area decreases and the metal to support interaction becomes weak. As a consequence, the coke deposition was more severe on catalysts pre-calcined at high temperature. It was concluded that highly dispersed Ni metal in the surface of Ni/MgO-$Al_2O_3$ catalyst (MgO=30 wt%) pre-calcined at $800^{\circ}C$ had a strong metal to support interaction (SMSI) resulting in an increase of coke resistance and high activity.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the applicability of a Cu-supported honeycomb catalyst as a catalyst for decomposition of a low toxic liquid propellant based on ammonium dinitramide (ADN). A mixture of copper, lanthanum, and alumina was supported on the honeycomb support by wash coating to prepare a Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst. We elucidated that the effect of metal loading on the physicochemical properties of Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst and catalytic performance in decomposition of the ADN-based liquid propellant. As the number of wash coatings increased, the amount of active metal Cu was increased to 4.1 wt%. The BET surface area of the Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst was in the range of 3.1~4.1 ㎡/g. The micropores were hardly present in Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalysts, however, the mesopores and macropores were well developed. The Cu (2.7 wt%)-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst exhibited the highest activity in the decomposition of the ADN-based liquid propellant, which is attributed to the largest surface area, the largest pore volume, and the well-developed mesopores and macropores.

  • Sodium borohydride($NaBH_4$) known as the material of hydrogen generation and storage can produce the hydrogen via catalytic hydrolysis. This protide chemical could be used in the hydrogen supply system for residential and mobile fuel cells, and thus many researches and developments regarding to these chemicals and decomposition reactions have been implemented. We experimented the hydrolysis of $NaBH_4$ alkaline solution by metal oxide-supported PGM(platinum group metal) catalysts and measured the generation rate of hydrogen which is product of decomposition reaction. We compared oxides as catalyst supports, and the precious metals, Pt and Ru for the catalysts and studied the effects of amounts of catalyst added and $NaBH_4$ concentrations on the hydrogen generation rates and patterns.

  • $NO_x$ reduction of stationary exhaust was performed at atmospheric condition and the temperature ranging from $200^{\circ}C$ to $500^{\circ}C$ over ZSM-5 supported metal catalyst. The characteristics of the prepared catalysts were investigated using the analytical techniques such as SEM, XRD, EDX, ICP and ITR. The results of EDX and ICP analysis demonstrated that the most part of transition metal existed on the exterior surface of support. Maximum de-$NO_x$ yield over Fe/ZSM-5 shown between $380^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$ was presumed to be due to the maximum H2 reduction rate at $400^{\circ}C$ of ITR.

  • Properties of $NaBH_4$ hydrolysis reaction using Co-P-B/FeCrAlloy catalyst and the catalyst durability were studied. Co-P-B/FeCrAlloy catalyst showed low activation energy such as 25.2 kJ/mol in 5 wt% $NaBH_4$ solution, which was similar that of noble metal catalyst. The activation energy increased as the $NaBH_4$ concentration increased. Formation of gel at high concentration of $NaBH_4$ seriously affected hydrogen evolution rate and the catalyst durability. The catalyst loss decreased as reaction temperature increased due to lower gel formation when the concentration of $NaBH_4$ was over 20 wt%. Considering hydrogen generation rate and durability of catalyst, the catalyst supported with FeCrAlloy heat-treated at $1,000^{\circ}C$ without ultra vibration during dipping and calcination after catalyst dipping was best catalyst. To use catalyst more than three times in 25 wt% $NaBH_4$ solution, it should be reacted at higher temperature than $60^{\circ}C$.
