  • The objective of this study is to evaluate and analyze Sumjin River Basin water environment system. It was necessary to improve the water quality. The data were collected from 2010 January to 2012 December including Water Temperature, pH, DO, EC, $BOD_5$, COD, TOC, SS, T-N, T-P. The data were used to study were required to; Correlation Analysis; Principle Component Analysis; Factor Analysis. The results were as followed. According to correlation analysis on $BOD_5$ against COD, TOC it revealed that the each value of correlation coefficient were 0.715 and 0.719; this means the strength of the relationship is strong. The same analysis on T-P against $BOD_5$, COD, TOC, SS has revealed that the range of the correlation coefficient value fell between 0.482 and 0.608 which means strength of the relationship between them remained normal. Through correlation analysis, it has been found that all elements except T-N have high correlation. The results of principal component analysis to target the overall water quality was extracted to three main components. The cumulative contribution rate is 68.990%. In the case of seasonal water quality, Spring and Summer are extracted to each of four main components. The cumulative contribution rate is 81.515% and 73.550% respectively. Fall and Winter are extracted to each of three main components. The cumulative contribution rate is 65.072% and 72.721% respectively. There is no seasonality in the case of factor analysis. The first common factor is $BOD_5$, COD, TOC, SS, T-P, which were classified. Totally speaking, Sumjin River Basin water system gets highly affected by the nutrient salts, organic matter and suspended solid at the same time.

  • This study was performed to observe the recent infection status of Sesarma dehaani with the metacercariae of p. itoktsuenensis in the well-known cnzootic focus, Sumjin river delta. A total of 74 Sesarma dehaani were collected from a focus near the mouth of the Sumjin river in November, 1986 and February, 1987. The crabs were examined for P. iloktsuenensis metacercariae by the method of Seo and Kwak(1972). The metacercariae of p. iloktsuenensis were found in the liver of the crabs. Among the 74 crabs examined, 47(63.5%) were found infected with 1∼102 metacercariae(18.2 per crab). The infection rate and metacercarial density increased as the sixte of the crab was increased. From the results, it is suggested that the life cycle of p. ilokssuenensis is actively maintained in the Sumjin river basin.

  • In this study, we report the water quality characteristics of pollutants for 4 major tributaries in the Yeongsan and Sumjin river basins using statistical analysis, such as regression equation and factor analysis. The flow rate and water qualtiy data collected from 4 sampling sites(Hwangryoung A, Jiseok A, Chooryeong A, Osu A) in the Yeonsan and Sumjin river basin during the past 3 years were analyzed for 11 parameters(flow rate, dissolved oxgen, pH, water temperature, electric conductivity, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen deman, total organic carbon, total nitorgen, total phosphorus, suspended solid). The results showed that the concentrations of BOD, COD, TOC, T-N, T-P in Hwangryoung A(HW) and Jiseok A(JS) of the Yeongsan river basin were decreased as the flow rate was increased. This means that rather than nonpoint soources, point sources affect water quality. In the cases of Chooryeong A(CR) and Osu A(OS) in the Sumjin river basin, howerever, nonpoint sources than point sources are an important factor that affects the water quality. Also, the factor analysis technique was employed to analyze principal component influencing on water quality. The results revealed that the first principal component in HW was correlated with EC, DO, T-N, water temperature. This "nitrogen influx according to seasonal pattern" factor may be interpreted. In JS, the first principal component was correlated with BOD, COD, TOC and is likely to represent "organic matter" processes. In CR and OS, BOD, COD, TOC, SS and T-P were significantly correlated and is considered as representing "Organic matter and adsorption of phosphorus on sediments influx". This study is expected to contribute to the effective pollution control/management of the surfac waters in the study sites.

  • An understanding of temporal trends of stream flows can help in the river management and the water resources planning for natural circumstances and human communities. Changes in temperature, precipitation, flow, and land use (agriculture, flood prevention activities, reservoir operation, interbasin diversion, etc.) are all eventually reflected in the flow pattern of the river. An assumption that the stationarity of the hydrologic series implying time-invariant characteristics of the time series accepted in water structure designs can no longer be valid if the flow changes as a result of the climate change or the stream flow use. Therefore, the identification and description of the characteristics of changes in hydrologic time series is a very important task in the river basin management. In this study, the statistical tests on the flow change forced by excess water diversions in the Sumjin River basin were performed by ways of single variable and time series variable comparisons. The tests showed that currently the Sumjin River basin statistically keeps its homogeneity in annual streamflow series, but the changed situation has been appeared in dry season streamflow series.

  • pH, EC and TDS are basic components in the investigation of groundwater quality, and are very important to the preliminary assessment of groundwater quality. These three chemical components investigated at the Youngsan and Sumjin river basins in 1998 suggest that the groundwater quality is generally good in these basins. Linear regression analysis shows that TDS versus EC has an linear correlation, but EC versus pH, and TDS versus pH have nearly no correlation. The relation of TDS and EC is 1.0 mg/1=1.52 $mu\textrm{S}$/cm, and it is the quality of natural water. In geostatistical analysis. three kinds of data are stationary random functions and they have exponential variograms. According to the isopleth maps of the groundwater quality, the groundwater quality of the Youngsan river basin is more contaminated than that of the Sumjin river basin. The isopleth maps of TDS and EC show very similar patterns because of the strong correlation between TDS and EC. The minimum and maximum values of the groundwater quality data are not reflected on the isopleth maps because kriging produces smooth distributions with minimum estimation variances.

  • To investigate which fresh-water fishes were infected with Clonorchis sinensis metacercariae, 13 species of the fishes in the Kum River, the Mangyong River, the Tongjin River, and the Sumjin River were surveyed from July to October 2001. The metacercariae of C. sinensis were found in Squalidus japonicus coreanus in the Kum River and the Mangyong River, Pseudorasbora parva in the Kum River, and Pungtungia herz i in the Sumjin River. The average number of the metacecariae in 1 gram of fish body weight was 12 in Squalidus japonicus coreanus, 26 in Pseudorasbora parva in the Kum River, 4 in Squalidus japonicus coreanus in the Mangyong River, and 7 in Pungtungia herz i in the Sumjin River. The C. sinensis egg-positive rates among the residents at the Sumjin River basin in 1999 and 2000 were 8.9% and 6.8%, respectively. In conclusion, C. sinensis infection was endemic in the above riverside areas.

  • In this study, the characteristics of crop damage area by flooding for 113 middle range watersheds during 2000-2016 were analyzed and future crop damage area by flooding were analyzed using 13 GCM outputs such as hourly maximum rainfall, 10-min maximum rainfall, number of days of 80 mm/day, daily rainfall maximum, annual rainfall amount associated with RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 scenarios and watershed characteristic data such as DEM, urbanization ratio, population density, asset density, road improvement ratio, river improvement ratio, drainage system improvement ratio, pumping capacity, detention basin capacity, and crop damage area by flooding. A constrained multiple linear regression model was used to construct the relationships between the crop damage area by flooding and other variables. Future flood index related to crop damage may mainly increase in the Mankyung watershed, Southwest part of Youngsan and Sumjin river basin and Southern part of Nackdong river basin. Results are useful to identify watersheds which need to establish strategies for responding to future flood damage.

  • The objective of this study is to help practicing engineers easily use the Clark model which is used for estimating the magnitude of design flood for small stream. A representative unit hydrograph was derived on the basis of the past rainfall-runoff data and unit hydrographs, and the storage coefficient of Clark model was estimated by using hydrograph recession analysis. Since the storage coefficient(K) is a dominating factor among the parameters of Clark method, a mulitple regression formula, which has the drainage area, main channel length and slope as parameters, is propsed to estimate K value of a basin where measured data are missing. The result of regression analysis showed that there is a correlation between a storage coefficient(K) and aforemetioned three parameters in homogenious basins. A regression formular for K was derived using these correlations in a basin of Han River, Nakdong River, Young River, Kum River and Sumjin River
