Phosphorylation of phytochrome may play important functional roles to control plant photomorphogenesis. Many attempts have failed to identify the protein kinase that phosphorylates phytochrome in vivo. It has been reported that a polycation-stimulated protein kinase activity was associated with the purified phytochrome. However, it is not known if the kinase activity is an intrinsic property of phytochrome or whether it comes from a contaminant of the purified phytochrome. In the present study, three protein kinases that phosphorylate phytochrome have been identified from etiolated oat seedlings. A polycationstimulated protein kinase that had very similar enzymatic properties with that associated with the purified phytochrome was identified in the cytosolic extract. It phosphorylated several contaminant proteins in the kinase preparation as well as phytochrome and had a broad substrate specificity. A CK II-type protein kinase phosphorylated phytochrome and the exogenously added casein. It is likely that this kinase may not be a feasible candidate for the kinase phosphorylating phytochrome in vivo since the content of the kinase seemed to well exceed the content of phytochrome in the etiolated oat seedlings. Another protein kinase that had unique enzymatic properties phosphorylated phytochrome very specifically and seemed to be present in a small quantity in the etiohlted seedlings. It is expected that one of three kinases may be responsible for the phytochrome phosphorylation in vivo.

Secreted arginase from Evernia prunastri thallus has been purified 616-fold from the incubation medium. Purified arginase was resolved as only one peak in a capillary electrophoresis with a pI value of 5.35. The protein contained high amounts of acidic amino acids, such as Asx and Glx, and a relatively high quantity of Ser and Gly. The molecular mass of native, purified arginase was estimated as about 26 kDa by SE-HPLC. Substrate saturated kinetic showed a typical Michaelis-Menten relationship with a K_m value of 3.3 mM L-arginine. Atranorin behaved as a mixed activator of the enzyme (apparent $K_m$ = 0.96 mM); whereas evernic and usnic acid were revealed as non competitive inhibitors (apparent $K_m$ values were 3.16 mM and 3.05 mM, respectively). Kinetics of atranorin binding indicated that saturation was reached from 0.18 ${\mu}mol$ of the total atranorin and the occurrence of multiple sites for the ligand. This agrees with a possible aggregation of several enzyme subunits during the interaction process. A value of binding sites of about 12 was obtained. The binding of evernic acid was saturated from 23 nmol of total phenol. The number of binding sites was about 5. The loss of the binding ability of evernic acid could be interpreted as a single negative cooperatively. Usnic acid behaves in a similar way to evernic acid, although the binding saturation occurs at $0.14\;{\mu}moles$ of the ligand. This binding appears to be unspecific, and has 28 usnic acid binding sites to the protein.

In this paper, we proposed a novel ethanol concentration sensor using microfluidic metamaterial absorber. The metamaterial absorber comprises a split-ring-cross resonator(SRCR) and a microfluidic channel. The SRCR can generate LC resonance that is very sensitive to changes in the effective dielectric constant around the capacitive gap. In addition, microfluidic channels can change the effective dielectric constant of the dielectric substrate by using an infinitesimal quantity of a liquid on the order of microliters. The proposed absorber can detect the electrical properties of different concentration of ethanol. The performance of the proposed absorber is demonstrated using the absorption measurements of a fabricated prototype sample with waveguides. In addition, the simulated results and measurement results show good agreement.

Dependence of residual compressive stress of diamond-like carbon (DLC) films on relative humidity was investigated. Polymeric, graphitic and diamond-like carbon films were prepared by r.f.-PACVD using methane or benzene with the negative self bias voltage of the substrate ranging from -100 to -800 V. In-situ measurements of the residual stress were carried out in an environment chamber where the relative humidity was varied from 10% to 90%. In dense DLC film of high residual compressive stress and hardness, we could not observe any change in the residual compressive stress with relative humidity. However, in the cases of graphitic and polymeric DLC films, abrupt change in the residual stress occurred by changing the relative humidity. The quantity of the stress change was inversely proportional to the film thickness, which means that the stress change with humidity is not due to the penetration of the water molecule into the film structure, but due to surface interaction between water molecules and film surface.

Photoluminescence(PL) properties of $Si^+$-implanted $SiO_2$ film, which was thermally grown on c-Si substrate, is reported. We have compared room temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the samples which was made in several kinds of implantation, subsequent annealing and $SiO_2$ film thickness. XRD data was correlated with the PL spectra. Silicon nanocrystals in $SiO_2$ film is considered as the origin of the photoluminescence. PL spectra was investigated after wet etching of the $SiO_2$ film by using BOE (Buffered Oxide Etchant) at every one minute. PL peak wavelength was varied as the etching is proceeded. These results indicate that the quantity and the distribution of dominant size of Si nanocrystals in $SiO_2$ film seem to have a direct effect on PL spectrum.
The microbial biosurfactants can be substituted to the chemical detergents in some industrial processes. In this study we developed a biotechnological processes for the biosurfactants with microorganisms. The biosurfactants have a lot of advantages in comparision with the chemical surfactants. They are proenvironmental even during and after industrial use. But there are not so many kinds of biosurfactants. The production cost and the end price is much higher than the chemical surfactants. But nowdays there are many kinds of microorganisms, which can produce the surfactants in large quantity and fast. We tried to develop a production process for the large scale with some microorganisms. At first Candida bombicola KCTC 7145, Sphingomonas chungbukensis KCTC 2955 and Sphingomonas yanoikuyae KCTC 2818 are cultivated and studied. For the large scale production process we used molasses as a complex medium and tried to optimize the process. Molasses contains 17 to 25% of water, 45 to 50% of sugar and 25% of carbohydrate, it can be fully used as a substrate. The microorganisms have been cultivated in the diluted media with molasses 2, 5, 8 and 10%, respectively, The optimal conditions for the cultivation and the production process have been studied. For the study the optical density, glucose concentration and the surface tension were measured. Candida bombicola KCTC 7145 and the 5% molasses media was selected as an optimal condition for the production process of a biosurfactant. During cultivation of Candida bombicola KCTC 7145 in the 5% molasses medium kerosene and corn oil were added for promoting the biosurfactants.
Acoustic emission (AE) signals are detected during the polymerization shrinkage of composite resin restoration in artificial dental ring according to various interfacial treatment conditions. AE amplitudes and the number of AE hit events were compared through the non-parametric statistics of Mann-Whitney method and Kruskal-Wallis method. The AE amplitudes detected from the PMMA and human tooth ring specimens were not significantly different according to adhesive conditions. The stainless steel ring specimen, meanwhile, had a difference in AE amplitude (p<0.05). The quantity of hit events for the human molar dentin specimens of the good bonding state was much less than that for the steel ring specimen but more than that for the PMMA ring specimen. For the same substrate, the better the bonding state, the less the AE hit events (p<0.05). The degree of marginal disintegration measured by SEM was proportional to the amount of AE hit events detected.
Methods for production of ${\gamma}$-Polyglutamic acid( ${\gamma}$-PGA ) by an alkalophilic Alcaligenes sP. were investigated for batch and continuous culture processes. Both quantity and productivity of ${\gamma}$-PGA by Alcaligenes sp. in batch culture were gradually increased with the increase of glucose concentration up to 50g/l , but the maximal production yield of 63% was obtained at 10g/l of glucose concentration. The highest specific growth rate was about $0.25hr^{-1}$ at 50un of glucose concentration, and substrate inhibition was observed at above 50g1f of glucose concentration. The highest ${\gamma}$-PGA formation about 11g/l in a batch system was obtained at 31'C, pH 10.0 and 87rpn Productivity of 2.80g/l/hr for continuous cultivation was 9 times higher than the productivity for batch cultivation.
Casein phosphopeptide (CPP) enhances calcium absorption in humans. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are capable of synthesis of cell-surface proteinase, which can hydrolyze milk protein and release several types of peptides in the medium. This study was conducted to characterize proteinase of LAB and to evaluate the CPP production from bovine milk. The content of CPP of milk produced by cell-free extract of LAB was determined based on the quantity of decomposed peptide from casein using the O-phthaldialdehyde (OPA) method. The proteolytic activity of LAB was assayed using fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-labeled casein. Casein appeared to be a better substrate than whey proteins for extracellular proteinases of LAB. During fermentation, milk proteins were hydrolyzed by extracellular proteinase of LAB, resulting in an increase in the amount of free $NH_3$ groups. Overall, the results presented here indicate that CPP produced by LAB may be a promising material for novel applications in the dairy industry.
Magnetite was chosen as a typical adsorbent to study its phosphate adsorption capacity in water body with low concentration of phosphorus (below $2mg\;PL^{-1}$). Magnetite was collected from Luoyang City, Henan Province, China. In this research, three factors have been studied to describe the adsorption of phosphate on magnetite, which was solution concentration (concentration ranging from 0.1 to $2.5mg\;PL^{-1}$), suspension pH (1 to 13) and temperature (ranging from $10^{\circ}C$ to $40^{\circ}C$). In addition, the modified samples had been characterized with XRD and FE-SEM image. The results show that iron ions contains in magnetite were the main factors of phosphorus removal. The behavior of phosphorus adsorption to substrates could be fitted to both Langmuir and Freundlich isothermal adsorption equations in the low concentration phosphorus water. The theoretical saturated adsorption quantity of magnetite is 0.158 mg/g. pH has great influence on the phosphorus removal of magnetite ore by adsorption. And pH of 3 can receive the best results. While temperature has little effect on it. Magnetite was greatly effective for phosphorus removal in the column experiments, which is a more practical reflection of phosphorous removal combing the adsorption isotherm model and the breakthrough curves. According to the analysis of heavy metals release, the release of heavy metals was very low, they didn't produce the secondary pollution. The mechanism of uptake phosphate is in virtue of chemisorption between phosphate and ferric ion released by magnetite oxidation. The combined investigation of the magnetite showed that it was better substrate for water body with low concentration of phosphorus.
