  • Eigenvalue reduction schemes approximate the lower eigenmodes that represent the global behavior of the structures. In the previous study, we proposed a two-level condensation scheme (TLCS) for the construction of a reduced system. And we have improved previous TLCS with combination of the iterated improved reduced system method (IIRS) to increase accuracy of the higher modes intermediate range. In this study, we apply previous improved TLCS to multi-level sub-structuring scheme. In the first step, the global system is recursively partitioned into a hierarchy of sub-domain. In second step, each uncoupled sub-domain is condensed by the improved TLCS. After assembly process of each reduced sub-eigenvalue problem, eigen-solution is calculated by Lanczos method (ARPACK). Finally, Numerical examples demonstrate performance of proposed method.

  • The cryogenic system for inductive superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) has been investigated recently. In this investigation, the sub-cooled nitrogen cryogenic system was adopted to enhance the performance of DC reactor for 6.6㎸/200A inductive SFCL. In sub-cooled nitrogen state at 64K, the critical current value and the thermal conductivity are larger than those of saturated nitrogen state at 77K and the electrical insulation capacitance should be remarkably enhanced. The solenoid type of 84mH superconducting DC reactor was fabricated and cooled down to 64K by using sub-cooled cooling method with GM-cryocooler and rotary pump. The fabrication techniques of cryogenic system and some experimental results such as cooling down characteristic are introduced in this study. Moreover, the sub-cooled nitrogen cryogenic system was detailedly introduced in this paper.

  • In this study, the tuning phenomena, gas storage capacity, and thermal expansion behaviors of binary (cyclopentylamine + CH4) and (cyclopropylamine + CH4) clathrate hydrates were investigated for the potential applications of clathrate hydrates to gas storage. To understand the tuning behaviors of binary (cyclopentylamine + CH4) and (cyclopropylamine + CH4) clathrate hydrates, 13C solid-state NMR spectroscopy was used, and the results confirmed that maximum tuning factors for the binary (cyclopentylamine + CH4) and (cyclopropylamine + CH4) clathrate hydrates were achieved at 0.5 mol% and 1.0 mol% of guest concentration, respectively. The gas storage capacity of binary (cyclopentylamine + CH4) and (cyclopropylamine + CH4) clathrate hydrates were also checked, and the results showed the CH4 capacity of our hydrate systems was superior to that of binary (tetrahydrofuran + CH4) and (cyclopentane + CH4) clathrate hydrates. The synchrotron diffraction patterns of these hydrates collected at 100, 150, 200, and 250 K confirmed the formation of a cubic Fd-3m hydrate. In addition, the lattice constant of clathrate hydrates with cyclopentylamine and methane were larger than that with cyclopropylamine and methane due to the effects of molecular size and shape.

  • Complexity of the hardware system grows larger, the fault testing becomes more difficult. As we divide system into the functional sub-modules and analyze reliability of a sub-modules on the system, We improve the system test performance. And the analysing results help us to set up the effective strategies for the system test. Also describing the system to a formalized sub-modules, we can analyze the logical accuracy and the characteristics of system. So we can predict the reliability of the system based on execution characteristics. In this paper we propose a reliability analysis method of a system based on the execution characteristics of sub-module.

  • In this work, we present the theoretical formulation, operator split solution procedure and partitioned software development for the coupled thermomechanical systems. We consider the general case with nonlinear evolution for each sub-system (either mechanical or thermal) with dedicated time integration scheme for each sub-system. We provide the condition that guarantees the stability of such an operator split solution procedure for fully nonlinear evolution of coupled thermomechanical system. We show that the proposed solution procedure can accommodate different evolution time-scale for different sub-systems, and allow for different time steps for the corresponding integration scheme. We also show that such an approach is perfectly suitable for parallel computations. Several numerical simulations are presented in order to illustrate very satisfying performance of the proposed solution procedure and confirm the theoretical speed-up of parallel computations, which follow from the adequate choice of the time step for each sub-problem. This work confirms that one can make the most appropriate selection of the time step with respect to the characteristic time-scale, carry out the separate computations for each sub-system, and then enforce the coupling to preserve the stability of the operator split computations. The software development strategy of direct linking the (existing) codes for each sub-system via Component Template Library (CTL) is shown to be perfectly suitable for the proposed approach.

  • Reduction scheme is remarkably useful in the case requiring the repeated calculation procedure. Recently, the efficiency of the reduction scheme has been improved by combining scheme of sub-domain method. But, when the global domain is partitioned into a few sub-domains, sub-domains without constraints can be produced. it is needed to extract the ritz vector from each sub-domain to construct the reduced system of each sub-domain. it is easy to extract the ritz vector from sub-domain with constraint. on the other hand, pseudo inverse method should be employed to extract the ritz vector from sub-domain without constraint. generally, the pseudo inverse takes a large number of computing time to obtain a reduced system of a sub-domain without boundary condition. This trouble can be overcome by the reduced pseudo inverse scheme which proposed in this study. This scheme is based on the static condensation that is not related with selection of the primary degrees of freedom. Numerical examples demonstrate that present method saves computational cost effectively. In addition, it is shown that the reduced system based on the proposed scheme predicts the accurate eigenvalues of global system.

  • Combustion gases emit various radiation signals by chemical reaction and excited molecules in combustion system. Since temperature measurement of combustion system is very difficult, non-contact temperature measuring methods are being researched. In this paper, we propose optical system of simple structure and implement technique for measuring temperature partially in furnace using radiation wavelength signals of high temperature $CO_2$ gas generated during combustion.

  • In this paper, we present a hydrostatic bearing design and rotordynamic analysis of a pump-and-drive turbine module for a 250-kW supercritical CO2 cycle application. The pump-and-drive turbine module consists of the pump and turbine wheel, assembled to a shaft supported by two hydrostatic radial and thrust bearings. The rated speed is 21,000 rpm and the rated power is 143 kW. For the bearing operation, we use high-pressure CO2 as the lubricant, which is supplied to the bearing through the orifice restrictor. We calculate the bearing stiffness and flow rate for various orifice diameters, and then select the diameter that provides the maximum bearing stiffness. We also conduct a rotordynamic analysis based on the design parameters of the pump-and-drive turbine module. The predicted Campbell diagram shows that there is no critical speed below the rated speed, owing to the high stiffness of the bearings. Furthermore, the predicted damping ratio indicates that there is no unstable mode. We conduct the operating tests for the pump and drive turbine modules within the supercritical CO2 cycle test loop. The pressurized CO2, at a temperature of 136℃, is supplied to the turbine and we monitor the shaft vibration during the test. The test results show that there is no critical speed below the rated speed, and the shaft vibration is controlled to below 3 ㎛.

  • In this study, the influences of silicon-based gas barrier films fabricated by using a facing target sputtering(FTS) system on the gas permeability for flexible displays have been investigated. Under these optimum conditions on the $SiO_x$ film with oxygen concentration($O_2/Ar+O_2$) of 3.3% and the $SiO_xN_y$ film with nitrogen concentration($N_2/Ar+O_2+N_2$) of 30% deposited by the FTS system, it was found that the films were grown about 4 times higher deposition rate than that of the conventional sputtering system and showed high transmittance about 85% in the visible light range. Particularly, the polyethylene naphthalate(PEN) substrates with the $SiO_x$ and/or $SiO_xN_y$ films showed the enhanced properties of decreased water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) over $10^{-1}\;g/m^2{\cdot}day$ compared with the PEN substrate without any gas barrier films, which was due to high packing density in the Si-based films with high plasma density by FTS process and/or the denser chemical structure of Si-N bond in the $SiO_xN_y$ film.

  • Although there are still controversial opinions and uncertainty on application of SiCf/SiC composite cladding as next-generation cladding material for its great oxidation resistance in high temperature steam environment and other outstanding advantages, it cannot deny that SiCf/SiC cladding is a potential accident tolerant fuel (ATF) cladding with high research priority and still in the engineering design stage for now. However, considering its disadvantages, such as low irradiated thermal conductivity, ductility that barely not exist, further evaluations of its in-pile behaviors are still necessary. Based on the self-developed code we recently updated, relevant thermohydraulic and mechanical models in FROBA-ATF were applied to simulate the cladding behaviors under normal and accident conditions in this paper. Even through steady-state performance analysis revealed that this kind of cladding material could greatly reduce the oxidation thickness, the thermal performance of UO2-SiC was poor due to its low inpile thermal conductivity and creep rate. Besides, the risk of failure exists when reactor power decreased. With geometry optimization and dopant addition in pellets, the steady-state performance of UO2-SiC was enhanced and the failure risk was reduced. The thermal and mechanical performance of the improved UO2-SiC was further evaluated under Loss of coolant accident (LOCA) and Reactivity Initiated Accident (RIA) conditions. Transient results showed that the optimized ATF had better thermal performance, lower cladding hoop stress, and could provide more coping time under accident conditions.
