Effect of Career Empowerment Program on Career Maturity, Career Decision-making Self-Efficacy, and Employment Stress of Nursing College Students (진로능력강화프로그램이 간호학생의 진로성숙도, 진로결정자기효능감 및 취업스트레스에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was pre-experimental research designed to compare the differences between pre-and post-program on nursing student's career maturity, career decision-making self-efficacy and employment stress. The subjects were 247 junior-year students in nursing school. Mean value for career maturity was from 2.59 to 2.57, career decision-making self-efficacy from score 3.44 to 3.65 in average(t=8.67, p<.001), and employment stress from score 2.94 to 2.83 in average(t=-3.46, p<.001). Career maturity was significantly different according to high employment rate(F=3.15, p=.025), high career preparation(F=2.69, p=.032). Career decision-making self-efficacy and employment stress was significantly different according to high career preparation(F=1.22, p=.031) and low career preparation(F=2.52, p=.030).

Relationship between Problem Solving Ability, Critical Thinking Disposition, Creativity, Self Efficacy and Nursing Process Competence of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 문제해결능력, 비판적 사고 성향, 창의성, 자기효능감과 간호과정 수행능력과의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between problem solving ability, critical thinking disposition, creativity and nursing process competence of nursing students. The participants in the study were 246 nursing students enrolled in 2nd year of a BSN program in S city, Korea. Data were collected from June 10 to June 20, 2015 using a structured questionnaire. Relationship between general characteristics and solving ability, critical thinking disposition, creativity and nursing process competence was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA and Kruskal-wallis. Correlation among problem solving ability, critical thinking disposition, creativity and nursing process competence was analyzed by pearson correlation coefficient. There was a statistically significant difference in problem solving with the reason for application, major satisfaction. There was a significant positive correlation between problem solving ability, critical thinking disposition, creativity and self efficacy. Nursing process competence was't a significant between problem solving ability, critical thinking disposition, creativity and self efficacy. These findings show that there is a need to develop strategies to improve self efficacy and nursing process competence for student nurses.

The Effect of Satisfaction in Major and Career Search Efficacy on Career Search Behavior in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 전공만족도, 진로탐색효능감이 진로탐색행동에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of satisfaction in major and career search efficacy on nursing students' career search behavior. Method: Data were collected from 544 students by means of self reported questionnaires about satisfaction in major, career search efficacy and career search behavior from March 2 to April 5, 2010. Result: The average score of satisfaction in major, career search efficacy and career search behavior was 3.61, 3.37, and 2.39 respectively. There were positive correlations between satisfaction in major and career search behavior, between career search efficacy and career search behavior, and between satisfaction in major and career search efficacy. Satisfaction in major and career search efficacy were significant predictors of career search behavior. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an effective intervention program to improve nursing student's satisfaction in major, career search efficacy and career search behavior.

A Predictive Model Comparison by Sex for Alcohol Consumption Behavior among Korea University Students (한국 대학생의 음주행위 예측모형의 성별 비교분석)

  • The purpose of this study was designed to develope and test the structural model that explains alcohol consumption behaviors among university students in Republic of Korea. The hypothetical model was constructed on the basis of the literature review and Pender's Health promotion model. Data was collected from questionnaires from 512 university students in Republic of Korea, from August to September, 2000. The reliability of instruments was adequate (Cronbach's alpha= .69-.90). Data analysis was done with SAS 6.12 for descriptive statistics and LISREL 8.13 program for covariance structural analysis. The results are as follows; 1. The overall fit of the hypothetical model to the data was moderate. Thus it was modified by male and female models. 2. The revised model has become parsimonious and had a better fit to the empirical data (male: χ2=87.21 p=.00, GFI=.97, AGFI= .94, NFI=.99, NNFI=1.0, CN=619.17, female: χ2=49.29 p=.31, GFI=.45, AGFI= .95, NFI=.99, NNFI=1.0, CN=370.02). 3. Self-efficacy was most significant factor and personality of novelty seeking, reward compensation, alcohol expectancy and drinking attitude have significant effects on male alcohol consumption behavior. 4. Personality of novelty seeking was most significant factor and personality of harm avoidance, friend influence, self-efficacies, alcohol expectancy and drinking attitude have significant effects on female alcohol consumption behavior.

Factors Influencing Health Promoting Behaviors of EMT-P Students using Pender's Model (Pender 모형을 활용한 응급구조학과 학생의 건강증진행위에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to supply basic data for a health promoting program and to elevate the level of it by examining whether EMT-P Students' health promoting behaviors were related to health percetion, health concept, health status, self-esteem, perceived benefits of action, perceived barriers of action, perceived self-efficacy, activity-related affect, social support, preference, prior related behavior, and a plan for action. Method: Subjects were 116 EMT-P Students in K city. Data collection method was a structured questionnaire. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression. Result: The most powerful predictor was prjor related behavior(28.8%). Altogether prjor related behavior, health status, perceived barriers of action, a plan for action were proven to account for 44.6% of health promoting behaviors of EMT-P Students. Conclusion: It suggested that prjor related behavior, health status, perceived barriers of action, a plan for action should be considered when developing a EMT-P Students' health promoting program.

The Effectiveness of Problem Based Learning(PBL) across Learning Styles in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 학습유형에 따른 문제중심 학습의 효과)

  • This study was to identify the difference of achievement motivation, self-efficacy, self-directed learning across the learning styles after application of the Problem based learning(PBL) in Nursing students. Descriptive survey was performed from march to june, 2009 at a university in Jeju. The participants were 268 in freshman nursing student and PBL was used during one semester. The data from 242 participants were analysed using IBM SPSS 20.0 The results revealed that most nursing students had converger in learning styles. Achievement motivation and self-efficacy were the greatest scores in accommodator and self-directed learning was the greatest scores in converger. However, Achievement motivation, self-efficacy, and self-directed learning were lowest in diverger. Significant positive correlation was found among achievement motivation, self-efficacy, and self-directed learning each other. There were significant difference in achievement motivation, self-efficacy and self-directed learning across learning styles. More research is needed to determine the effects of PBL in nursing education including many variables.

A Survey on Health Promoting Behavior and its Related Factors for High School Students (고등학생의 건강증진행위와 관련요인 분석)

  • In order to identify the health promoting behavior and its related factors for high school students, a survey was performed from 4th to 8th of December 2000. Population were selected by stratified random sampling method and total 355 students replied to the self-administered questionnaire survey. Data analysis was done by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA. Pearson's Correlation, stepwise multiple regression. The results were as follows: 1. The average score of health promoting behavior practices was 2.23(SD=.41) points by the 4 point scale, which was lower than that of adults. In the subcategories, the highest degree of performance was self-actualization (mean= 2.68, SD=.68), and the lowest degree was health responsibility (mean = 1.33, SD= .41). 2. According to gender(t=2.70, p=.00), school type(t=2.53, p=.01), father's educational level(F=4.16, p=.00), sleeping hours(F=3.80, p = .02), and number of hours at school (F=4.44, p=.01), there were a statistically significant differences in modifying factors. of health promoting behavior. 3. Health promoting behavior showed significant positive correlations with self- efficacy(r= .461. p= .000), internal health locus of control (r=.284, p=.000), perceived health status (r=.163, p=.002). 4. The combination of self-efficacy, internal health locus of control. school type, and gender explained 30% of the variance of health promoting behavior. Therefore, the findings of research can serve as the basis for developing health promoting programs, which enhance self-efficacy and performed in school and community.

The Relationship between COVID-19 related Knowledge & Preventive Health Behavior, Self-Efficacy, Anxiety and Perceived Stress among Nursing Students (간호대학생의 코로나19 관련 지식 및 예방적 건강행위, 자기효능감, 불안, 지각된 스트레스와의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study aimed to identify the level of knowledge & preventive health behaviors related to COVID-19, self-efficacy, anxiety, and perceived stress of students at a nursing college and to investigate the correlation between them. The data were collected from 133 students at a nursing college in Seoul, Korea, from April 15, 2022 to May 10, 2022 through a Google online questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 25.0 to perform descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficients. As a result of analyzing the difference according to general characteristics, preventive health behavior showed a significant difference according to the necessity of COVID-19 infection control education, and self-efficacy showed a difference according to the subjective health status. The degree of instability of the subjects was shown to have significant differences according to grade and subjective health status, and perceived stress showed significant differences according to subjective health status. The result of analyzing the correlation between preventive health behavior and knowledge, self-efficacy, anxiety, and perceived stress showed that there was no significant correlation, but self-efficacy had a significant negative correlation with anxiety and perceived stress, and anxiety had a significant positive correlation with perceived stress. The results of this study will be used as basic data for education programs and countermeasures to prevent COVID-19 infections.

Analyzing a Mathematical Gifted Student's Output for Mentor-Independent Study - A Case Study Focused on Mathematics Education for the Gifted - (수학 영재학생의 사사독립연구에 대한 산출물 분석 - 중등 영재학생을 중심으로 한 사례연구 -)

  • In this paper, we investigated the mathematical output of a gifted student's independent study. We chose one student who was taking a mentorship course in mathematics at the Gifted Education Center in Chonnam National University, and analyzed the characters of the result which a student showed through the output of independent study and studied the psychological change of a student while he was making a presentation of the results of his study. We found following facts. First, a mentor-independent study improves a mathematical gifted student's inductive thinking and ability to generalize and apply to other cases. Second, presenting a mathematical gifted student's output for mentor-independent study improves his ability of mathematical communication in the abilities of creative problem solving. Finally, there is an increased change in his perception and self-efficacy of mathematics after the presentation.

Student's Motivation and Strategy in Learning Science (학생들의 과학 학습 동기 및 전략)

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the intercorrelations among various motivational patterns and learning strategies and to examine the differences in motivation and strategy usage in terms of students' science achievement level, gender, and grade. A questionnaire on achievement goal, self-efficacy, self-concept of ability, expectancy, value, causal attributions, and learning strategies was administered to 360 junior high/high school students (178 males, 182 females). Students who adopted performance-oriented goal tended not to be task oriented. Task-oriented students had high levels of self-efficacy, high self-concept of ability, and expectancies for future performance in science. They also valued science and attributed thier failures to the lack of effort. However, performance-oriented students evaluated their ability negatively, did not value science, and attributed thier failures to uncontrollable causes. With respect to learning strategy, task-oriented students tended to use deep-level strategy, whereas performance-oriented students tended to use surface-level strategy and not to use deep-level strategy. High-achieving students, boys, and junior high school students were more task-oriented, evaluated their ability more positively, and valued science more than low-achieving students, girls, and high school students, respectively. High-achieving students and boys also used deep-level strategy more than each of their counterparts. However, no significant difference in learning strategy was found between junior high school students and high school students. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.
