Performance evaluation of in-service open web girder steel railway bridge through full scale experimental investigations

  • Civil infrastructures, such as bridges and tunnels are most important assets and their failure during service will have significant economic and social impact in any country. Behavior of a bridge can be evaluated only through actual monitoring/measurements of bridge members under the loads of interest. Theoretical analysis alone is not a good predictor of the ability of a bridge. In some cases, theoretical analyses can give less effect than actual since theoretical analyses do not consider the actual condition of the bridge, support conditions, level of corrosion and damage in members and connections etc. Hence actual measurements of bridge response should be considered in making decisions on structural integrity, especially in cases of high value bridges (large spans and major crossings). This paper describes in detail the experimental investigations carried out on an open web type steel railway bridge. Strain gages and displacement transducers were installed at critical locations and responses were measured during passage of locomotives. Stresses were evaluated and extrapolated to maximum design loading. The responses measured from the bridge were within the permissible limits. The methodology adopted shall be used for assessing the structural integrity of the bridge for the design loads.

  • 본 연구에서는 기하학적 비선형 해석을 통해 완성계 사장교의 주요한 좌굴 거동 특성을 규명하였다. 본 해석 연구에서는 케이블의 자중에 의한 새그효과, 주탑 및 거더의 보-기둥 효과, 그리고 대변위 효과 등의 주요한 기하학적 비선형성이 직접적인 비선형 해석을 통해 고려되었다. 주탑과 거더는 비선형 프레임 요소로 모델링 되었고, 케이블은 비선형 등가 트러스 요소로 모델링 되었다. 차량하중으로 가정된 활하중이 고려되었는데, 활하중 해석 전에 고정하중을 합리적으로 고려하기 위해 초기 형상 해석이 수행되었다. 작용하는 활하중 형태에 따른 주요한 비선형 반응을 케이블 배치 형식에 따라 비교 하였고, 이 후 좌굴 안정성에 큰 영향을 미치는 활하중 형태에 대해 케이블의 배치 형식, 주탑과 거더 간 강성비, 케이블의 단면적, 케이블의 단수 등의 기하학적 특성이 좌굴 모드 및 임계 하중 계수의 변화에 미치는 영향을 규명하였다.

상황변수의 조절효과 차이에 관한 연구 (SPSS와 AMOS프로그램을 중심으로) (The Study on the Different Moderation Effect of Contingency Variable (Focused on SPSS statistics and AOMS program))

  • 본 연구는 인과관계 분석에서 주로 활용되는 SPSS statistics(회귀분석)과 구조방정식모델을 구현하는 프로그램 중 하나인 AMOS 프로그램을 각각 활용하여 동일한 데이터에 대하여 조절효과 검정을 위한 실증분석을 실시하였다. 실증분석 결과, SPSS statistics을 활용한 회귀분석에서 상황변수가 범주형데이터인 성별과 연속형데이터인 컨설팅만족도 모두에서 조절효과가 없는 것으로 나타난 반면, AMOS 프로그램을 활용한 구조방정식모델에서는 10% 유의수준에서 컨설턴트의 능력 및 태도가 컨설팅재구매에 미치는 영향관계를 컨설팅만족도가 부분적으로 조절하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 결국, 조절효과 분석은 AMOS 프로그램을 활용한 구조방정식모델과 SPSS statistics을 활용한 회귀분석모델이 전혀 다른 접근방법을 사용하고 있어 얼마든지 상이한 결과가 나올 수 있음을 보여준다.

모바일 지각적 사용 용이성과 유용성 매개효과를 통한 인지적 나이가 소비자 혁신성에 영향을 미치는 구조적 효과 연구 (The Study on the Structural Effects of Cognitive Age on Consumer Innovativeness by Mediating Perceived Usefulness and Easy of Use of Mobile)

  • 본 연구는 모바일의 지각적 사용 용이성과 지각적 유용성을 매개효과로 인한 소비자들의 인지적 나이가 소비자 혁신성에 영향을 주는 구조적 효과를 밝히는 것에 연구의 주안점을 두었다. 이를 위해서 구조화된 설문을 통하여 조사를 실시하였으며, 매개효과를 분석하기 위하여 SPSS의 Process macro를 이용하여 병렬 이중 매개효과 분석을 실시하였다. 연구의 결과는 소비자의 인지적 나이가 젊다고 지각할수록 소비자 혁신성이 높게 지각되는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 모바일의 지각적 사용 용이성과 모바일 지각적 유용성의 매개효과를 검증하기 위한 분석에서도 모바일의 지각적 사용 용이성은 소비자 혁신성에 통계적으로 유의한 긍정적 영향이 있는 것으로 나타나고 있다. 이를 통해서 소비자들의 인지적 나이가 소비자 혁신성에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 모바일의 지각적 사용 용이성과 지각적 유용성 간의 구조 관계를 분석하였다는 점에 본 연구의 기여점을 둘 수 있다.

간호대학생의 자아탄력성, 스트레스 대처방식, 교수효율성, 가족지지가 임상실습만족도에 미치는 효과: 구조방정식 모형구축 (The Effect of Ego-resilience, Stress Coping Styles, Teaching, Effectiveness, and Family Support on Satisfaction of Clinical Practice in Nursing Students by AMOS Structural Equation Model)

  • Purpose: This study aimedto develop a structural equation model on the relationship among ego-resilience, and teaching effectiveness on clinical education, stress coping style, perceived family support, and satisfaction of clinical practice in nursing students in order to increase the satisfaction of clinical practice. Methods: The subjects were 399 undergraduate nursing students enrolled in 7 universities and participating in 10 clinical practice setting areas in 5 cities in South Korea. The research was conducted from December 5th, 2009 to February 20th, 2010. The structural equation model was used to perform the analysis with the statistics program of SPSS win 17.0 and AMOS 5.0. Results: Teaching effectiveness and family support showed a direct effect on satisfaction of clinical practice, while ego-resilience and stress coping styles showed an indirect effect. The biggest total effect on satisfaction of clinical practice was teaching effectiveness followed by family support, ego-resilience, and stress coping styles respectively, which accounted for 50.9%. Conclusion: Based on outcomes of this study, the proposed model allows better understanding of the satisfaction of clinical practice. This result implies that strategies or intervention programs enhancing extrinsic protection factors, motivation factors, and intrinsic protection factors should be considered. In addition, a structural support system for increasing the satisfaction level of clinical practice in nursing students should also be considered.

공정성 조절효과에 따른 서비스 실패 관련 변인들 간의 관계구조분석 - 공정성 조절효과를 중심으로 - (Analysis of the Relational Structure among Service Failure-related Variables after Moderation of Fairness - Focusing on fairness-related -)

  • This study attempts to analyze relational structures among service failure-related variables after the moderation of fairness in the beauty service industry with the following purposes: First, it aims to review and investigate service failure & service recovery strategies, non-switching intentions after recovery, revisit intention, the intent to provide word-of-mouth recommendations and previous studies on service failure and recovery in the beauty service industry. Second, it targets the analysis of the role of fairness as a variable that moderates relations between service recovery strategies and post-recovery satisfaction in the beauty service industry. For this, the following research method was used: This study has investigated the effect of service failure and its recovery strategies (behavioral recovery strategy, psychological recovery strategy, monetary recovery strategy) on customer satisfaction for beauty service users and used the Structural Equation Model (SEM) to further analyze and verify the effect of the satisfaction on post-satisfaction behavior (non-switching intention, repurchase intention and the intent to provide word-of-mouth recommendations). The SEM was divided into a measurement model and structural model to determine if the model is appropriate and estimate the parameters of the path coefficient. In addition, this study examined to see if fairness (procedural fairness, distributive fairness and interactive fairness) works as a moderating variable while the service recovery efforts affect customer satisfaction. Then, the role of service recovery strategies, targeted to satisfy the customers who were dissatisfied because of service failure, were investigated. In addition, its effect on post-satisfaction behavior was analyzed from the structural aspect, and the moderating role was examined as well. Then, the role of the service recovery strategy, which can be used to satisfy dissatisfied customers, was examined, and the effect of the satisfaction on customer behavior was analyzed from a structural perspective. In addition, the moderating role of fairness was tested. As a result, this study is significant in that it helps service providers formulate service recovery-related strategies.

박스형 보강효과를 고려한 개선된 PSC Beam교의 구조 안전성 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Structural Safety Evaluation of Improved PSC Beam Bridges Considering To-Box Reinforcement Effect)

  • 노후화된 PSC Beam 교량은 개선된 보강방안이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 성능저하가 발생된 노후 PSC Beam 교량을 대상으로 PSC Beam 교량의 보강형을 폐단면 박스형태로 변환하여 이차합성 구조화함으로써, PSC Beam 교량의 강성을 안정적으로 증가시킬 수 있는 박스형 보강방안을 제안하였다. 제안된 보강방안과 기존의 외부프리스트레스 도입공법을 결합하여 보강할 경우, 보강효과를 정량적으로 규명하기 위해 시공단계해석에 따른 시간 의존적 정밀해석을 수행하였다. 성능개선을 위해 제안된 박스형 보강방안 적용 시 보강방법에 따라 전단면 및 휨 보강과 같은 다양한 형태의 보강방안을 제시한 후, 각각의 보강방안에 대해 이차합성 효과에 따른 상향캠버 및 부재응력 특성을 평가하였다. 또한 내하력 평가를 수행하여 내하율을 검토함으로서, 개선된 PSC Beam 교량의 구조 안전성을 정량적으로 평가하였다.

Modeling of wind and temperature effects on modal frequencies and analysis of relative strength of effect

  • Wind and temperature have been shown to be the critical sources causing changes in the modal properties of large-scale bridges. While the individual effects of wind and temperature on modal variability have been widely studied, the investigation about the effects of multiple environmental factors on structural modal properties was scarcely reported. This paper addresses the modeling of the simultaneous effects of wind and temperature on the modal frequencies of an instrumented cable-stayed bridge. Making use of the long-term monitoring data from anemometers, temperature sensors and accelerometers, a neural network model is formulated to correlate the modal frequency of each vibration mode with wind speed and temperature simultaneously. Research efforts have been made on enhancing the prediction capability of the neural network model through optimal selection of the number of hidden nodes and an analysis of relative strength of effect (RSE) for input reconstruction. The generalization performance of the formulated model is verified with a set of new testing data that have not been used in formulating the model. It is shown that using the significant components of wind speeds and temperatures rather than the whole measurement components as input to neural network can enhance the prediction capability. For the fundamental mode of the bridge investigated, wind and temperature together apply an overall negative action on the modal frequency, and the change in wind condition contributes less to the modal variability than the change in temperature.

대기업 안전직 근로자의 직무재창조와 직무열의, 무형식학습, 사회적 지지 및 긍정심리자본의 구조적 관계 (The Structural Relationship among Job-crafting, Work Engagement, Informal Learning, Social Support and Positive Psychological Capital of Safety Workers in Large Corporations)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the structural relationship between job crafting and job enthusiasm, informal learning, social support, and positive psychological capital, and to investigate the effect of informal learning, social support, and positive psychological capital on job crafting through job enthusiasm. A survey was conducted on 451 safety workers at large domestic companies, and the collected data were analyzed for model suitability, influence relations between variables, and mediating effects with AMOS 23.0 using SPSS 23.0. Through research, we found five important results. First, the structural model of job crafting, job enthusiasm, informal learning, social support, and positive psychological capital properly explained the empirical data. Second, social support and positive psychological capital had a positive effect on job enthusiasm, but informal learning did not significantly affect job enthusiasm. Third, informal learning and positive psychological capital had a positive effect on job crafting, while social support did not significantly affect job crafting. Fourth, job enthusiasm had a positive effect on job crafting. Finally, job enthusiasm was found to mediate the relationship between social support and positive psychological capital and job crafting. These suggest that continuous environmental efforts and systematic management measures are needed to promote job crafting of safety workers so that informal learning, social support, positive psychological capital, and job enthusiasm can be expressed. Therefore, the necessity of developing various sub-factors of informal learning that can promote job crafting of safety workers was suggested as a follow-up study.

Effect of earthquake induced-pounding on the response of four adjacent buildings in series

  • Structural pounding due to strong seismic excitations can result in severe damage or even collapse of colliding structures. Many researchers focused on studying the mutual pounding between two adjacent structures while very few researches were concerned with the pounding of a series of structures. This paper aims to study the pounding effect on a series of four buildings having different natural frequencies. The paper also investigates the effect of different arrangements of the four buildings on their pounding response. For this, a mathematical model was constructed using Matlab code where, pounding was modeled using a contact force-based approach. A Non-Linear viscoelastic (Hertzdamp) contact element was used and activated only during the approach period of collision. The mathematical model was validated by comparing its prediction versus experimental results on three adjacent buildings. Then the model was used to study the pounding between four adjacent structures arranged in different sequences according to their natural frequencies. The results revealed that increasing the gap distance generally led to decrease the peak responses of the towers. Such response is somehow different from that predicted earlier by the authors for the case of three adjacent buildings. Moreover, the arrangement of towers has a significant effect on their pounding response. Significant difference between the natural frequencies of adjacent structures increases the pounding forces especially when the more flexible buildings are located at the outer edge of the series. The study points out the need for further researches on buildings in series to gain a better understanding of such complex phenomena.
