  • New directions on rural policy have been discussed due to the domestic and international environmental changes such as the price degradation of agricultural products, maintenance of rural landscape, and so on. Development of amenity in rural areas has been come out as the one of new policy directions. Amenity defines as, in a very broad way, the public benefits accruing from the condition of a place, such as aesthetic beauty, clean air and water, or good street lighting. Amenity in rural area is referred as a resource with a potential possibility for development. Among them rural landscape is regarded as the one of major resources. In Jeju, particularly, stone wall retains the most esthetic landscape in rural regions. In addition, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism appointed stone wall as the one of important components in rural landscape and one of the 100 national historic symbols. Stone wall in Jeju has its intrinsic and real value and is widespread in rural regions. However, in spite of it's popularity, the landscape of stone wall has been degraded without any concerns and has been partly destroyed. Landscape of stonewall should be maintained and the depth of concerns and systematic management measures for protection should be discussed. In this sense, the purpose of this paper, first of all, is to examine the status of stone wall and to evaluate the landscape of stone wall in Jeju. GIS is used as an analysis tool. Several areas such as Hankyung, Namyeup, and so on in Jeju are selected as the case areas for this study.

  • The purposes of this study is to identify a proper spot to create a symbolic place for the International Jazz Festival and to improve the connections among the place assets of Gapyeong as a place marketing strategies. To this end, the analysis and interpretation of spatial structure was conducted using space syntax. The results of the study showed that the entire structure of the space formed in the axis of a total of 200. The value of total integration was 0.833, which is relatively low, and the local integration degree was 1.588 degrees. Gahwa Street has the highest value of full integration (1.264) among the major points related with the Festival, followed by the former Gapeyong Station area (1.189). As a result, the former Gapeyong station area was identified as a recommendable place for symbolic place because it is highly accessible to the surrounding areas and spacious enough to function as a plaza. Developing a cultural street occupied by jazz cafes, concerts, shops and restaurants, and transforming the old railroad into a linear park will enhance the image of jazz city and help place marketing.

  • This study was developed to investigate the effects of privately owned public space (POPS) on urban streetscape and to find ways to prevent the discontinuation of street continuity on urban landscape when creating POPS in urban space and the surrounding streets. Several case studies and policies and laws related to POPS were reviewed to identify the practical problems as well as current state. An additional analysis was conducted on the different types of POPS to examine spatial connections between them and streetscapes and to find ways to improve POPS on urban streetscape. Our results show that POPS surrounding a building (i.e. frontage space and adjacent sidewalks) should be considered as one space in the integrated perspective. In addition, the type of facilities installed on POPS would be decided according to whether POPS is recognized as the part of public rest area or treated as the part of street. The results of the study will serve as useful data to solve the current problems with city's POPS, which destroys spatial continuity by focusing on increasing the number of POPS and creates high-rise buildings isolated from existing spaces. This study will also contribute to improve the quality of future POPS.

  • This study focused on the estimation of econcmic value and the evaluation of attitudes toward plans for the establishment of a walking tour as a public service in the city of Gwacheon. A value analysis based upon 152 questionnaires returned by the residents of Gwacheon and 175 questionnaires from the users of Seoul Race Park in Gwacheon utilized a CVM(Contingent Valuation Method) approach to estimate use value, non-use value, and potential value. The results show that 69.8% of residents and 60.0% of Seoul Race Park users had an interest, 81.6% of residents and 89.7% of Seoul Race Park users agreed to the proposed plan, and 67.8% of residents and 69.7% of Seoul Race Park users expressed a willingness to pay an additional tax or admission fee. The estimated WTP for an additional resident tax per household/year is 11,721 won while it was an additional 750 won per admission for the Seoul Race Park user group. Based on these results, the estimated total economic value of all households/year and the user group over a period of 5 years is 9,997 hundred million won, which was a doubling of the 1.4 in value of total construction costs. The results of this study strongly support the establishment of a walking tour street plan as a public service commodity.

The purpose of this study was to analyze more realistically the phenomenon of the disagreement that originated from sightseeing in the hahoe folk villages by focusing on the problem between the ive groups as a potential and continual impediment to tourism. Two groups, residents and tourists, were compared in order to determine the underlying factors of the disagreement regarding exploitation of folk villages for tourism The two groups were clearly split: inhabitants of the village considered such exploitation negative, while tourists accepted it as positive. The two groups showed different understandings of the topic residents were in favor of the preservation of the physical resources, but against exposure of their private lives to the public, while tourists strongly respected the preservation of the resources of the village. A comparison of the common phenomena of disagreement between the two groups was performed, Variables that showed different responses between the two groups were loss of privacy of individual houses, verbal aggression and physical conflicts between the groups, and lack of administration. In most of the cases of disagreement, residents considered the disagreement phenomena to be more serious than tourists did except in one case: tourists placed a greater importance on the ugly view of the street market. Finally, in order to analyze the factors that impacted the level of the disagreement, a multiple regression analysis was conducted. Disagreement factors affecting tourists were verbal aggression between the groups, complaints about lodging and dining facilities, complaints about tourist facilities, and negligence of the administration in responding to requests. Among these, the most influential factor was verbal aggression between the groups. In fact, individual feelings between tourists and residents proved to be the biggest influence on the level of disagreement.

  • The goal of this study is to recreate the identification of landscape image through the Agricultural Architecture in rural area. Most of them are not kept with houses in traditional village and the other structures in garden area of Korea, because they are located in the isolated field or placed near along the local street, are designed as a very heavily designed building, and are covered by different materials and color against village architecture. I researched cattle barns in both Korea and Germany of what they have had images in a distance-view points of local area, so that I might find a suitable image of Barn Architecture with topography of rural areas. I surveyed rural agricultural buildings with different point of views on landscape structure, architectural form and materials, and conditions animal welfare. There are three results from this paper as follows: First, the placement of animal barn in garden area is isolated to village so that it may keep a clean environment of village, which it makes non appropriate to land using and village view. Second, the architectural form makes a different image to the village building, because it has an oversize against houses in village or has no rhythm and dividing form of simple gable barm. Third, the barn architecture is better to consider of eco-friendly materials with animal welfare concept design, when it starts to design the barn in the field.

  • China government recently tries to preserve not only the famous national historic-culture cities, but also the small and medium-sized cities due to the damages and destruction of the cities by the rapid economic development, urban expansion and the development of tourism industry. Hence, this study chose 'Zhoucun ancient mall' which is one of the hotness of cultural heritage located in a mid-sized city named 'Zhoucun district Zibo city Shandong province' that has continuously cared historical landscapes by the protective policy regarding the city as a historic-culture resource from '80s, and considered the character of the city's development process on how the historical landscapes were well protected. In fact, the protection policy in Zhoucun ancient mall had been started in early '80s, however, the viable plan was established in 2001 entitled 'Historical block protection planning of Zhoucun Da street'. And then, 'Regulatory plan for the ancient mall site of Zhoucun Da street' established in 2008 has expanded the area of the blocks for protection. However, this plan organized area only block-by-block so that the small blocks couldn't have the unity when expanded. Later in 2015, 'Regulation Organization Plan' hastried to expanded the protect-area to solve the unity problem. As a result of the study, the historical landscape management plan of Zhoucun in Zibo city has been systematically changed in 2001 after. In other words, this 2001's plans established buffer zones for the maintenance of protected areas and the surrounding environment. And then the detailed regulatory plan for 2008 led to a concrete urban management plan. After that, in 2015, it was found that the expansion plan to protect and manage the whole area of Zhoucun disrict is to manage the landscape of the surrounding area including the historical landscape of 'Zhoucun ancient mall'.

  • The landscape disign of Gamcheon wholesale fish Market was designed around a turnkey base to promote the economy of Busan Metropolitan City, to establish a fishery marketing center and to modernize existing facilities. The objectives of the project were to promote the mood of an old market, while preserving its functions and efficiency as a market, to design outdoor spaces with natural resources and amenities in balance, and to create attractive tourist spots in connection with the wide area development plan. The project was oriented, fast, to enhance the functions of the market. For this purpose, a multi-dimensional space layout was designed in consideration of functions as a wholesale market. The safety of pedestrians was secured by separating lathes for vehicles and for pedestrians. Tree planting with various functions such as sheltering, wind breaking and guiding was planned. Secondly, nature-friendly and human-friendly landscaping design was attempted. For this, the beautiful natural resources of Amnam Park were utilized, and green spaces such as green bridges linking buildings in the wholesale market, and rooftop gardens were to be arranged. In addition, environment-friendly facilities such as roads paved with natural materials(i.e. gravel, shells) and program parking lots were to be planned. Thirdly, landscape design was considered to create attractive tourist spots. For example, a fish farm was created as a theme street for pedestrians and various water-friendly spaces such as pedestrian ramps, observatories and seaside streets were to be secured. The main contents are as follows. First, a green bridge to Ahnnam Park was introduced for a tour source and flower garden, an event plan and viewing deck open to the sea were planned on the bridge's axis. Secondly, for the effective land use plan concerning open space and convenience to visitors, a promenade was planned, which is connected with the theme plaza and small plazas by environmental sculptures in front of the market hall and at the gate. As well, an observatory and a roof garden help create three dimensional multi leveled space, with a good view of the natural landscape of the sea, sky and park Thirdly, landscape materials, such as trees and those for facilities, strengthened for protection against the seawind and salt damage were selected. The commercial market area was intended to be transformed a traditional functional area of efficiency and economy into an attractive marine leisure area where both tourists and neighbors can make use of it.
