FCAW has wide application in ship fabrication, maintenance and field erection. It has many advantages over SMAW.SAW and GMAW process. In many applications, the FCAW provides highquality weld metal. This method can reduce weld defects especially porosity and spatter. But the fatigue characteristics of those deposited metal have been rarely investigated. The purpose of this study is to investigate the cyclic stress-strain behavior and fatigue tests by the constant strain control were carried out on the rounded smooth specimen with deposited metal using the metal type flux cored wire. As the results of this study for the deposited metal welded by the metal type flux cored wire, the hardening or softening characteristics under cyclic load were investigated and cyclic stress-strain curve, strain-fatigue life curve, stress-strain function and fatigue life relation which are useful to estimate the fatigue life under the stress concentration condition were obtained.
This paper presents a numerical method to simulate ductile tearing in cracked components under high strain rates using finite element damage analysis. The strain rate dependence on tensile properties and multiaxial fracture strain is characterized by the model developed by Johnson and Cook. The damage model is then defined based on the ductility exhaustion concept using the strain rate dependent multiaxial fracture strain concept. The proposed model is applied to simulate previously published three cracked pipe bending test results under two different test speed conditions. Simulated results show overall good agreement with experimental results.

This paper investigated into the impact characteristics of the stainless sheet with thickness of 0.7 mm on the stretching boundary condition through three-dimensional finite element analysis. High speed tensile tests were carried out to obtain strain-stress relationships with the effects of the strain rate. The FE analysis was performed by the ABAQUS explicit code. In order to improve an accuracy of the FE analysis, the hyper-elastic model and the damping factor were introduced. Through the comparison of the results of the FE analyses and those of the impact tests, a proper FE model was obtained. The results of the FE analyses showed that the absorption rate of energy maintains almost 82.5-83.5% irrespective of the impact energy level and the diameter of the impact head. From the results of FE analyses, variations of stress, strain, dissipation energy, strain energy density, and local deformation characteristics in the stainless sheet during the collision and the rebound of the impact head were quantitatively examined. In addition, it was shown that the fracture of the specimen occurs when the plastic strain is 0.42 and the maximum value of the plastic dissipation energy of the specimen is nearly 1.83 J.
Fruits are generally subjected to mechanical forces during harvesting, handling, and transportation that may cause damage in the form of bruises, punctures, and cracks. In order to prevent damage, and insure better quality fruits for consumers, it is very essential to study physical properties of these materials. The studies were conducted to examine the effect of storage period, storage condition, and other factors, such as loading rate and initial strain, on the stress relaxation behavior of the fruit flesh, and develop nonlinear viscoelastic models to represent its stress relaxation behavior. The following results were obtained from the study : 1. Since the viscoelastic behavior of the fruits flesh was nonlinear, the behavior was satisfactorily modelled as follows ; $${\delta}({\varepsilon},\;t)={\varepsilon}^A[B\;{\exp}(-Ct)+D\;{\exp}(-Ft)+G(-Ht)]$$ But, for the every strain applied, the stress relaxation behavior of the fruit flesh, such as apple and pear, could be well described by the Generalized Maxwell model, respectively. 2. The effect of loading rate on the stress relaxation behavior was remarkable. The higher loading rate resulted in the higher initial stress, and the faster stress relaxation. 3. The higher initial strain resulted in the higher initial stress, and stress relaxed at the large initial strain was also much higher than at the small initial strain. 4. Stress relaxation rate and quantity stored in the fruits at the low temperature storage were much higher than those at the normal temperature storage in the same storage period. Also, in all fruits tested, the longer storage period was the more relaxation rate and quantity were shown. These trends in the normal temperature condition was the more significant than in the low temperature condition.
In our experiments, strain-free nanowires(NWs) were dispersed on to the substrate, followed by e-beam lithography(EBL) to fabricate single nanowire ultraviolet(UV) sensor devices. Focused-ion beam(FIB), micro-Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescence were employed to characterize the structural and optical properties of AlGaN/GaN NWs. Also, I-V characteristics were obtained under both dark condition and UV lamp to demonstrate AlGaN/GaN NW-based UV sensors. The conductance of a single AlGaN/GaN UV sensor was 9.0 ${\mu}S$(under dark condition) and 9.5 ${\mu}S$ (under UV lamp), respectively. The currents were enhanced by excess carriers under UV lamp. Fast saturation and decay time were demonstrated by the cycled processes between UV lamp and dark condition. Therefore, we believe that AlGaN/GaN NWs have a great potential for UV sensor applications.
The dislocation density in strain-hardened Alloy 690 was analyzed using scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) to study the relationship between the local plastic strain and susceptibility to primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) in nuclear power plants. The test material was cold-rolled at various thickness reduction ratios from 10% to 40% to simulate the strain-hardening condition of plant components. The dislocation densities were measured at grain boundaries (GB) and in grain interiors of strain-hardened specimens from STEM images. The dislocation density in the grain interior monotonically increased as the strain-hardening proceeded, while the dislocation density at the GB increased with strain-hardening up to 20% but slightly decreases upon further deformation to 40%. The decreased dislocation density at the GB was attributed to the formation of deformation twins. After the PWSCC growth test of strain-hardened Alloy 690, the fraction of intergranular (IG) fracture was obtained from fractography. In contrast to the change in the dislocation density with strain-hardening, the fraction of IG fracture increased remarkably when strain-hardened over 20%. From the results, it was suggested that the PWSCC growth behavior of strain-hardened Alloy 690 not only depends on the dislocation density, but also on the microstructural defects at the GB.
One of the fermentative metabolism of enteric Escherichia coli was imitated after rumen bacteria, which have high C4 metabolism. E. coli expresses phosphenolpyruvate carboxylase (PPC) for the pathway between phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) and oxaloacetate (OAA) during glycolytic condition while expresses phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PCK) during gluconeogenic condition. In contrast to enteric E. coli, rumen bacteria express the PEP-OAA pathway only by PCK. To verify the effect of the regulation imitation on the C4 metabolism of E. coli, PPC-deficient E. coli strain with PCK expression in glycolytic condition was constructed. The PEP-OAA regulation modified E. coli strain increased 2.5-folds higher C4 metabolite than the wild type strain. The potential use of C4 metabolism by regulation control is discussed.

From the analytical standpoint, it is advantageous to consider the behavior of supported walls as plane strain condition. But supported walls constitute geotechnical problems which, in strut terms, are not plane strain cases. These represent differences between the measured and the predicted due to the stiffness and spacing of supported walls and the behavior of discontinuous walls such as solider beams with lagging. This study is to investigate simulations of a system behavior along a horizontal section of walls supported by prefabricated strut. Using a beam column method, relative effects associated with prefabricated strut stiffness and spacing in a systematic behavior were investigated.
The hot stamping process is an innovative forming method that could prevent the cracking of high strength steel sheets. The formability test of boron steel sheet using forming limit diagrams at elevated temperature is very complicated and time consuming job. In this paper, an alternative test method to evaluate the formability of boron steel in hot stamping has proposed. It measured the FLD0 instead of whole strain combinations of FLD with the tensile test machine and specially designed test rig. Test results shows that the proposed test method can simulate the plain strain condition fracture and can make the FLD of boron steel sheet at elevated temperature with less effort.

A low-Reynolds-number second moment turbulence closure was developed with the aid of DNS data. Model coefficients of nonlinear return to isotropy term were derived by use of Cayley-Hamilton theorem and two component turbulence limit condition as the functions of invariances of anisotropy and turbulent Reynolds number. Launder and Tselepidakis' cubic mean pressure strain model was modified to fit the predicted pressure-strain components to the DNS data. Two component turbulence limit condition was the precondition to be satisfied in developing the second moment turbulence closure for the realizable Reynolds stress prediction. But the satisfactions of Reynolds stress level and pressure-strain level of each component were compromised because the satisfaction of both levels was impossible.
