Seasonal Variation and Storage Period of Rainwater Quality in Changwon (창원지역 빗물의 계절변화 및 저류시간에 따른 수질변화)

  • This study investigated variation of rainwater quality by seasonal and storage duration of rainwater in Changwon city. Seasonally, the pollutants concentration of rainwater were higher in spring and winter. In the case of rainwater and storage rainwater quality, pH of rainwater was 4.3, storage rainwaters were 6.0 and Turbidity increased about 8 times from 1.82 NTU to 14.61 NTU. The changes of storage water quality during the storage period, initial KMnO4 consumption rainwater was exceeded drinking water standard. Total solid in rainwater was detected as 116 mg/L, it tended to stable at around 70∼80mg/L after storage period for a 6day.

Quality Changes of Sulgidduk Added Cheonnyuncho (Oputia Humifusa) Fruit Powder during Storage (천년초 열매분말을 첨가한 설기떡의 저장 중 품질변화)

  • This study shows the quality changes of Sulgidduk added Cheonnyuncho fruit powder during storage. Sulgidduk was prepared with freeze-dried Cheonnyuncho, rice flour, sugar syrup and salt. The Sulgidduk, which was made with various amounts (0,3,6,9,12%) of added Cheonnyuncho, was examined by the quality of duration during storage. The pH of Cheonnyuncho Sulgidduk decreased as the amounts of Cheonnyuncho fruit powder increased, and also showed a significant decrease as the storage increased. As the amounts of Cheonnyuncho fruit powder increased, lightness (L) decreased while redness (a) and yellowness (b) increased. During the storage period, the lightness (L) and yellowness (b) were increased, but redness (a) was decreased. In the texture profile analysis, the hardness and springiness were decreased with increasing Cheonnyuncho fruit powder, whereas cohesiveness, gumminess and brittleness were increased. However, the tendency of the changes of characteristics during storage was opposite except for springiness. In conclusion, it is suitable to extend the storage period of Sulgidduk added Cheonnyuncho fruit powder.

Growth and Flowering of Eustoma grandiflorum as affected by Duration of Seedling Storage at 1$0^{\circ}C$ (고온기 육묘에서 유묘의 저온처이기간이 꽃도라지의 생장과 개화에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the growth and flowering responses of Eustoma grandiflorum cv. Azmasul, Azmahoon and Azmazo influenced by duration of storage at 1$0^{\circ}C$ of seedlings raised in warm season. The plants after cold treatment were cultivated in a glasshouse under natural day length with the minimum temperature of 12$^{\circ}C$. The stem thickness and number of leaves of Azmasul and Azmahoon were not affected by duration of cold treatment However, plant height, internode length fresh and. dry weights were significantly increased in the four-week treatment. In addition, four-week treatment increased flower weight and width. Bays to flowering of Azmasul and Azmahoon in four-week treatment were shortened by 20 days compared to the control or two-week treatment. Shoot growth and flower Qualify of Azmazo under the four-week treatment were promoted. Four-week treatment reduced the days to flowering of Azmazo by 31 and 36 days compared to the control and two-week treatment. The results of this study show that optimum duration for storage at l$0^{\circ}C$ for seedlings of Ewtoma grandiflorum cv Azmasul. Azmahoon and Azmazo grown in warm season is four weeks.

The Quality Characteristics of Brown Stock Prepared by The High Pressure Cooking (가압가열 방식에 의한 Brown Stock의 유통 중 품질 변화)

  • This study has been conducted to develop brown stock with the high pressure cooking(HPC) method. The sterilization methods, package film and storage methods, and quality maintenance during storage were investigated in this study. The packaging quality of NY/PP was inferior to that of PE/AL/PP since NY/PP facilitated the ventilation and moisture absorption. The maximum duration of the safe storage was found to be 50 days at 25$^{\circ}C$, 30 days at 35$^{\circ}C$ for NY/PP package film, and 60 days at 25$^{\circ}C$, 40 days at 35$^{\circ}C$ for PE/AL/PP one. These results showed that the overall quality of brown stock by the HPC method was not different significantly from that of brown stock by the traditional approach. Furthermore, the HPC approach might improve the productivity by saving the labour cost, food cost, and cooking time. Therefore, the traditional method might well be substituted by this newly developed method.

  • We evaluated the reduction performance of NOx storage catalyst and TWC for lean-burn natural gas engine by the model gas. The method of unsteady state reaction was used to compare with reduction performances of NOx storage catalyst and TWC. It was found that the effective parameter was rich spike duration, temperature of the model gas. In the presence of $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ in the reaction mixture was decreased the NOx reduction performance.

Effect of Harvest Date after Heading. Storage Temperature and Duration on the Dormancy and Germination Percentage in Barley Cultivars (보리종자의 수확시기, 저장온도 및 기간에 따른 휴면성과 발아율에 관한 연구)

  • To investigate the effect of harvest time after heading, storage temperature and duration on the dormancy and germination in barley cultivars, the kernels were collected at 5 day intervals from 20 days after heading until 35 days. The kernels were dried at 2$0^{\circ}C$ for 7 days and storaged in freezing chamber (-15$^{\circ}C$). The kernels germinated better at 15$^{\circ}C$ than at $25^{\circ}C$, and 1% $H_2O$$_2$ and 3 ppm GA$_3$ treatments gave much higher germination percentage than non-treatment; $H_2O$$_2$ and GA$_3$ treatments were good for promoting germination of immature harvested kernels. Germination rate index were significantly correlated with germination percentage under $25^{\circ}C$ and 15$^{\circ}C$ temperature conditions. Hangmi, Jogangbori and Muanbori had deep or slight dormancy at the different harvesting time, especially Dusan #8 had the deepest dormancy. The dormancy broke more rapidly under 3$0^{\circ}C$ than 2$0^{\circ}C$ storage conditions, so high temperature accelerated dormancy breaking. Those results showed that dormancy was various with the cultivars, harvesting time, storage temperature and storage duration.

Market Quality Changes of 'Fuji' Apples Influenced by the Duration of Preshipment Storage and Packaging during Simulated Export (수출 전 저장기간과 모의 수출에 따른 '후지' 사과의 상품성 변화)

  • The percentage of watercore occurrence harvested on Nov. 6 (commercial harvest season) was over 80% but fruits seemed not to reach climacteric stage on the basis of ethylene evolution. The occurrence ratio and severity of watercore gradually decreased with the increase of preshipment storage for 2 months. The level of soluble solids did not show a clear tendency during preshipment storage but flesh firmness, fresh weight, and acidity gradually decreased. Although the overall quality of fruit reduced along with the increase of preshipment storage duration after exposure to retail condition at ambient temperature for 1 week, plastic film wrapping (PE 30 um) as well as plastic film wrapping plus ethylene scrubbing had a benefit on keeping freshness of fruit even after retail condition. Waxed fruit showed excellent appearance but browning disorder was developed. Results indicated that moisture barrier such as plastic film wrapping and ethylene removal have a great potential on keeping freshness of fruit during export which required long-term transport under low humidity environment.

Ethylene Production of Packaged Apples under Vibration Stress in Simulated Transportation Environment

  • Fruits are subjected to a variety of vibration stress during the transportation from a production area to markets. Vibration inputs are transmitted from the transporting vehicle through the packaged fruit. And the steady state vibration input may cause serious internal damage of fruit. Product quality of fruits declines by various factors while they are stored right after harvesting and among the substance in charge of post ripening action, ethylene ($C_2H_4$) biosynthesis increases fruits' respiration process after harvesting and decreases storage expectancy. Ethylene production of apples rapidly increases while storage duration becomes longer. This tendency is much clearer for the apples with vibration stress at input acceleration level. When there was no vibration stress, change in ethylene production level of apples are not very large during storage. Ethylene production rates inside the gas collecting container increased significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) after 24 hours storage, particularly for apples with vibration stress ($0.7{\mu}l/kg{\cdot}hr$ (1st stack), $0.78{\mu}l/kg{\cdot}hr$ (2nd stack), $0.96{\mu}l/kg{\cdot}hr$ (3rd stack)); whereas less ethylene was produced in control apples ($0.18{\mu}l/kg{\cdot}hr$ during storage. Also ethylene production rates of apples according to the stack position were significantly different ($p{\leq}0.05$). The vibration stress clearly accelerated the degradation of apple quality during storage, resulting in increased ethylene production.

Influence of Sulfur Fertilization on Quality Characteristics and Antioxidant Activities of Onions during Storage at 4℃ (유황처리가 4℃ 저장 중 양파의 품질 특성 및 항산화 활성에 미치는 영향)

  • Onions cultivated with (SY) or without (SN) sulfur application were stored for up to 36 weeks at $4^{\circ}C$ since harvest, after which they were analyzed for chemical composition and antioxidant activity in relation to sulfur (S) application and storage duration. Compared with SN onions, SY onions showed lower moisture and higher protein, soluble solids, and flavonoid contents at the time of harvest, and moisture and protein contents remained the same until 20 weeks of storage. However, soluble solids decreased while antioxidant activities, including flavonoids content, total reducing capacity, and superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity, appreciably increased as storage time increased to 20 weeks, which could be attributed to onion respiration and protective response to environmental stresses, respectively. There were abrupt decreases in flavonoid content and SOD-like activity at 36 weeks, presumably due to severe deterioration. Interestingly, all phenomena observed depending on storage time were independent of S application of onions. The results show that the critical factor influencing the chemical composition and antioxidant activity of onions during storage was postharvest storage duration rather than S application during onion cultivation.

EFFECTS OF TEMPERATURE AND DURATION OF POST-IRRADIATION STORAGE ON SEEDLING HEIGHT OF WHEAT (감마선과 속중성자를 조사한 밀종자의 저장기간과 저장온도가 발아후 유묘생장에 미치는 영향)

  • The experiment was carried out to investigate post-irradiation storage effect which was related to temperature(i.e. at 2$^{\circ}C$, 17$^{\circ}C$ and 4$0^{\circ}C$) on wheat seeds; Weibull's Svenno, treated with gamma-ray and fast neutron. Results obtained showed that the seedling height in both radiation sources was decreased with prolongation of storage period, especially when the seeds were treated with high dosage and stored at high temperature(4$0^{\circ}C$). The results of this trial, however, showed that storage effect was influenced by irradiation dose, temperature and storage time.
