Recently, multiferroic materials gain much attention due to their fascinating fundamental physical properties. These materials offer wide range of potential applications such as data storage, spintronic devices and sensors, where both electronic and magnetic polarizations can be coupled. Among single-phase multiferroic materials, $BiFeO_3$ is typical because of the room-temperature magnetoelectric coupling in view of long-range magnetic- and ferroelectric-ordering temperatures. However, $BiFeO_3$ is well known to have large leakage current and small spontaneous polarization due to the existence of oxygen vacancies and other defects. Furthermore the magnetic moment of pure $BiFeO_3$ is very weak owing to its antiferromagnetic nature. Recently, various attempts have been performed to improve the multiferroic properties of $BiFeO_3$ through the co-doping at the A and the B sites, by making use of the fact that the intrinsic polarization and magnetization are associated with the lone pair of $Bi^{3+}$ ions at the A sites and the partially-filled 3d orbitals of $Fe^{3+}$ ions at the B sites, respectively. In this study, $BiFeO_3$, $Bi_{0.9}Ho_{0.1}FeO_3$, $BiFe_{0.97}Ni_{0.03}O_3$ and $Bi_{0.9}Ho_{0.1}Fe_{0.97}Ni_{0.03}O_3$ bulk compounds were prepared by solid-state reaction and rapid sintering. High-purity $Bi_2O_3$, $Ho_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$ and $NiO_2$ powders with the stoichiometric proportions were mixed, and calcined at $500^{\circ}C$ for 24 h to produce the samples. The samples were immediately put into an oven, which was heated up to $800^{\circ}C$ and sintered in air for 1 h. The crystalline structure of samples was investigated at room temperature by using a Rigaku Miniflex powder diffractometer. The field-dependent and temperature-dependent magnetization measurements were performed with a vibrating-sample magnetometer and superconducting quantum-interference device.
The purpose of the study is to analyze the sensitivity of the parameters that affect the runoff and water quality in the studied drainage basins. SWMM model is applied to the four drainage basins located at Namgazwa and Sanbon in Seoul and Gray Haven and Kings Creek in the USA. first of all, the optimum values of the parameters which have least simulation error to the observed data, are detected by iteration procedure. These are used as the standard values which are compared against the procedure. These are used as the standard values which are compared against the varied parameter values. In order to catch the effectiveness of the parameters to the computing result, the parameters are changed step by setp, and the results are compared to the standard results in flowerate and quality of the sewer. The study indicates that the discharge is greatly affected by the types of runoff surface, i.e., impervious area remarkably affects the peak flow and runoff volume while the surface storage affects the runoff volume at mild sloped basins. In addition, the major parameters affecting the pollution concentrations and loadings are the contaminant accumulation coefficient per unit area per time and the continuous dry weather days. Furthermore, the factors that affect the water quality during the initial rainfall period are the rainfall intensity, transport capacity coefficient and its power coefficient. Consequently, in order to simulate the runoff-water quality, it is needed to evaluate previous data in the research performed for the studied basins. To accurately estimated from the tributary areas and the rational computation methods of the pollutants calculation should be introduced.
Highways are characterized by high non-point pollutant emissions due to high traffic volumes and sections that cause abrupt change in driving speed (i.e. rest stations, ticketing office, etc.). Most highways in Korea were constructed with layers that do not allow adequate infiltration. Moreover, non-point pollution reduction facilities were not commonly installed on domestic highways. This study was conducted to evaluate a facility treating highway runoff and develop a cost-effective design for infiltration facilities by using soil amendment techniques. Performing soil amendment increased the hydraulic retention time (HRT) and infiltration rate in the facility by approximately 30% and 20%, respectively. The facility's efficiency of removing non-point pollutants (Total Suspend Soiled (TSS), Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD), Biological Oxygen Demand(BOD), Total Nitrogen (TN) and Total Phosphorus, (TP) were also increased by 20%. Performing soil amendment on areas with low permeability can increase the infiltration rates by improving the storage volume capacity, HRT, and infiltration area. The application of infiltration facilities on areas with low permeability should comply with the guidelines presented in the Ministry of Environment's Standards for installation of non-point pollution reduction facilities. However, soil amendment may be necessary if the soil infiltration rate is less than 13 mm/hr.

Accurate quantitative assessment of flood control effect of side-weir detention basin as a flood countermeasure was highly required, in which one-dimensional HEC-RAS model has been widely utilized in practice. When the submerged overflow occurred particularly driven by limited storage capacity of a given detention basin, HEC-RAS model could not be sufficiently applicable by guaranteeing acceptable accuracy without reliable benchmark dataset. From this perspective, a dedicated unsteady experiment was planned and carried out to physically realize such submerged overflow for accommodating better accuracy. Subsequently, the experimental results were applied to validate and calibrate HEC-RAS unsteady modeling to provide flood control effect of the detention basin for various inflow scenarios. After following this procedure, the modelled results indicated that there appeared within -5% of difference in stage height and maximum 2.4% accuracy to assess the flood control effect, thereby ensuring the calibrated HEC-RAS unsteady model to be accurate with practically acceptable error range.
One of the greatest challenges for our society is providing powerful electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices. Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells are among the most promising candidates in terms of energy and power density. As the starting material, $TiCl_4{\cdot}YCl_3$ solution and dispersing agent (HCP) were mixed and synthesized using ammonia as the precipitation agent, in order to prepare the nano size Y doped spherical $TiO_2$ precursor. Then, the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ was synthesized using solid state reaction method through the stoichiometric mixture of Y doped spherical $TiO_2$ precursor and LiOH. The Ti mole increased the concentration of the spherical particle size due to the addition of HPC with a similar particle size distribution in a well in which $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ spherical particles could be obtained. The optimal synthesis conditions and the molar ratio of the Ti 0.05 mol reaction at $50^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes and at $850^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours heat treatment time were optimized. $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ was prepared by the above conditions as a working electrode after generating the Coin cell; then, electrochemical properties were evaluated when the voltage range of 1.5V was flat, the initial capacity was 141 mAh/g, and cycle retention rate was 86%; also, redox reactions between 1.5 and 1.7V, which arose from the insertion and deintercalation of 0.005 mole of Y doping is not a case of doping because the C-rate characteristics were significantly better.
Commonly cation exchange membranes have been used for vanadium redox flow batteries. However, a severe vanadium ion cross-over causes low energy efficiency. Thus in this study, we prepared 3 different anion exchange membranes to investigate the effect on the membrane properties such as vanadium ion cross-over and long term stability. The base membranes were prepared by an electrolyte pore filling technique using vinyl benzyl chloride (VBC), divinylbenzene (DVB) within a porous polyethylene (PE) substrate. Then 3 different functional amines were introduced into the base membranes, respectively. These resulting membranes were evaluated by physico-chemical properties such as ion exchange capacity, dimensional stability, vanadium ion cross-over and membrane area resistance. Conclusively, TEA-functionalized membrane showed longest term stability than other membranes although all the membranes are similar to coulombic efficiency.
In this study, the effect of combining oragnic acid and bacteriocin of E. faecalis MJ-213 isolated from Meju against L. monocytogenes KCTC 3569 growth in BHI broth and ground pork was investigated. In combination, the effects of 256 BU/ml bacteriocin and 1.5% acetic acid, citric acid or lactic acid were synergistic and effective than those compounds alone in controlling the viable cell counts of L. moncytogenes. The addition of increasing concentrations of the bacteriocin or organic acids led to a marked decrease in the number of L. monocytogenes. The combining treatment of the bacteriocin (256 BU/ml) and organic acid (1.5%) in ground pork inoculated with L. monocytogenes (5 log CFU/ml) resulted in 1 to 2 log CFU/ml reduction of cell counts during storage at $4^{\circ}C$ for 60 h. Also, the bacteriocin of E. faecalis MJ-213 was relatively stable at $100^{\circ}C$ for 20 min.
Normalization transform is very useful for finding the overall trend of the time-series data since it enables finding sequences with similar fluctuation patterns. The previous subsequence matching method with normalization transform, however, would incur index overhead both in storage space and in update maintenance since it should build multiple indexes for supporting arbitrary length of query sequences. To solve this problem, we propose a single index approach for the normalization transformed subsequence matching that supports arbitrary length of query sequences. For the single index approach, we first provide the notion of inclusion-normalization transform by generalizing the original definition of normalization transform. The inclusion-normalization transform normalizes a window by using the mean and the standard deviation of a subsequence that includes the window. Next, we formally prove correctness of the proposed method that uses the inclusion-normalization transform for the normalization transformed subsequence matching. We then propose subsequence matching and index building algorithms to implement the proposed method. Experimental results for real stock data show that our method improves performance by up to $2.5{\sim}2.8$ times over the previous method. Our approach has an additional advantage of being generalized to support many sorts of other transforms as well as normalization transform. Therefore, we believe our work will be widely used in many sorts of transform-based subsequence matching methods.
The main bottleneck for large scale VOD systems is bandwidth of storage or network I/O due to the large number of client requests simultaneously, and then efficient techniques are required to solve the bottleneck problem of the VOD system. Patching is one of the most efficient techniques to overcome the bottleneck of the VOD system through the use of multicast scheme. In this paper, we propose a new patching scheme, called P2P proxy patching, for improving the typical patching technique by jointly using the prefix caching and P2P proxy. In our proposed scheme, each client plays a role in a proxy to multicast a regular stream to other clients that request the same video stream. Due to the use of the P2P proxy and the prefix caching, the client requests that ive out of the patching window range can receive the regular stream from other clients in the previous patching group without allocating the new regular channels from the VOD server to the clients. In the performance study, we show that our patching scheme can reduce the server bandwidth requirement about $33\%$ less than that of the existing patching technique with respect to prefix size and request interval.

Texture and descriptive sensory characteristics of a Korean rice cake (Karedduk) with added mixtures of fructooligosaccharide (95%) and emulsifier, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate-90 (SSL-90), were investigated after 2 and 24 hr of storage at $5^{\circ}C$. A central composite design was used for the arrangement of treatment. Different levels of fructooligosaccharide (95%), 0, 3, 6, 9, and 12%, were added to dry rice flour. Also, different levels of emulsifier, 0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, and 1.2%, were added to the same dry rice flour. The texture properties analysis using a Texture Analyzer revealed that the chewiness, gumminess, and hardness were significantly different. The effect of retarding retrogradation of Korean rice cakes (Karedduk) with added mixtures of fructooligosaccharide (95%) and SSL-90 showed an increasing trend as the amount of fructooligosaccharide (95%) increased. Overall, the instrumental texture properties were highly correlated with the sensory characteristics. The results suggested that Korean rice cakes (Karedduk) with the addition of a mixture of fructooligosaccharide (95%) and SSL-90 can be made from the mixture of 9% fructooligosaccharide (95%) and 0.9% SSL-90 in order to retard starch retrogradation.
