Structural Optimization Using Micro-Genetic Algorithm (마이크로 유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 구조 최적설계)

  • SGA (Single Genetic Algorithm) is a heuristic global optimization method based on the natural characteristics and uses many populations and stochastic rules. Therefore SGA needs many function evaluations and takes much time for convergence. In order to solve the demerits of SGA, $\mu$GA(Micro-Genetic Algorithm) has recently been developed. In this study, $\mu$GA which have small populations and fast convergence rate, was applied to structural optimization with discrete or integer variables such as 3, 10 and 25 bar trusses. The optimized results of $\mu$GA were compared with those of SGA. Solutions of $\mu$GA for structural optimization were very similar or superior to those of SGA, and faster convergence rate was obtained. From the results of examples, it is found that $\mu$GA is a suitable and very efficient optimization algorithm for structural design.

Linearization of Nonlinear Random Vibration Beam by Equivalent Energy Method (비선형 불규칙 진동 보의 등가에너지법에 의한 선형화)

  • Nonlinear dynamic system under random excitation was analyzed by using stochastic method. A linearization method was used in order to linearize non-linear structural characteristics but the parametric excitation was used as it was given. An equivalent energy method which equalizes the expectation value of energy of the original nonlinear system and that of quasi-linearized system was proposed. Ito's differential rule was applied to obtain steady state moments. Quasi-linearization coefficients can be obtained the iterative calculation of linearization scheme and steady state moments. Monte Carlo simulation was used to verify the results of the proposed method. Nonlinear vibration of a slender beam was analyzed in this research. The analysis results were compared with Monte Carlo simulation result and showed good agreement. As the spectral density of the given excitation increased, the analysis results showed the better agreement with Monte Carlo simulation.

Numerical Study on the Characteristics of Spray Combustion Processes in the DME and n-heptane Fueled Diesel-like Engine Conditions (DME 및 n-Heptane 연료의 디젤엔진 조건에서 분무연소특성 해석)

  • In the present study, in order to understand the overall spray combustion characteristics of DME fuel as well as to identify the distinctive differences of DME combustion processes against the conventional hydrocarbon liquid fuels, the sequence of the comparative analysis have been systematically made for DME and n-heptane liquid fuels. To realistically represent the physical processes involved in the spray combustion, this studyemploys the hybrid breakup model, the stochastic droplet tracking model, collision model, high-pressure evaporation model, and transient flamelet model with detailed chemistry. Based on numerical results, the detailed discussions are made in terms of the autoignition, spray combustion processes, flame structure, and turbulence-chemistry interaction in the n-heptane and DME fueled spray combustion processes.

Hybrid Atmospheric Compensation in Free-Space Optical Communication

  • Since the direct-gradient (DG) method uses the Shack-Hartmann wave front sensor (SH-WFS), based on the phase-conjugation principle, for atmospheric compensation in free-space optical (FSO) communication, it cannot effectively correct high-order aberrations. While the stochastic parallel gradient descent (SPGD) can compensate the distorted wave front, it requires more calculations, which is sometimes undesirable for an FSO system. A hybrid compensation (HC) method is proposed by properly using the DG method and SPGD algorithm to improve the performance of FSO communication. Simulations show that this method can well compensate wave-front aberrations and upgrade the coupling efficiency with few computations, preferable correction results, and rapid convergence rate.

Measurement of the Spatial Dose Rates from Radioactive Patients during Nuclear Medicine Studies (핵의학 검사에서 환자로부터의 공간선량률 측정)

  • In order to evaluate the exposure to the radiologic technologists from patients who had been administrated with radiopharmaceuticals, we measured the spatial dose rates at 5 cm, 50 cm, and 100 cm from skin surface of patients using an proportional digital surveymeter, both 5 min after injection and right before the studies. In results, the exposure to the technologists in each procedure was small, compared nth the dose limits of the medical workers. However, the dose-response relationships in cancer and hereditary effects, referred to as the stochastic effects, have been assumed linear and no threshold models ; therefore, the exposure should be minimized. For this purpose, the measurements of spatial dose rate distributions were thought to be useful.

  • Suppose that { $X_{i}$ } is a stationary AR(1) process and { $Y_{j}$ } is an ARX process with { $X_{i}$ } as exogeneous variables. Let $Y_{j}$ $^{*}$ be the stochastic process which is the sum of $Y_{j}$ and a nonstochastic trend. In this paper we consider the problem of estimating the conditional probability that $Y_{{n+1}}$$^{*}$ is bigger than $X_{{n+1}}$, given $X_{1}$, $Y_{1}$$^{*}$,..., $X_{n}$ , $Y_{n}$ $^{*}$. As an estimator for the tolerance probability, an Mann-Whitney statistic based on least squares residuars is suggested. It is shown that the deviations between the estimator and true probability are stochatically bounded with $n^{{-1}$2}/ order. The result may be applied to the stress-strength reliability theory when the stress and strength variables violate the classical iid assumption.umption.n.

  • In this paper the change point problem of the error terms in linear regression models is considered. Since fixed or stochastic independent variables and weakly dependent errors are assumed, usual multiple regression models and time series models including ARMA are covered. We use the estimates of probability density function based on residuals in order to test the distribution change of the unobserved errors. Under some mild conditions, the test using the residuals is proved to have the same limiting distribution as the test based on true errors.

  • Traditional time based preventive maintenance is used to constant maintenance interval for equipment life. In order to consider economic aspect for time based preventive maintenance, preventive maintenance is scheduled by RCM(Reliability-Centered Maintenance) evaluation. So, Markov state model is utilized considering stochastic state in RCM. In this paper, a Markov state model which can be used for scheduling and optimization of maintenance is presented. The deterioration process of system condition is modeled by a Markov model. In case study, simulation results about RCM are used to the real historical data of combustion turbine generating units in Korean power systems.

  • In order to react the dynamic behavior of the system more actually, it is necessary to solve the first problem of synchronization for Markovian jump complex network system in practical engineering problem. In this paper, the problem of local stochastic synchronization for Markovian nonlinear coupled neural network system is investigated, including nonlinear coupling terms and mode-dependent delays, that is less restriction to other system. By designing the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and applying less conservative inequality, we get a new criterion to ensure local synchronization in mean square for Markovian nonlinear coupled neural network system. The criterion introduced some free matrix variables, which are less conservative. The simulation confirmed the validity of the conclusion.

A Simulation Based Vehicle Distribution Planning System

  • Many vehicle routing methods have been suggested, which minimize the routing distances of vehicles to reduce the total transportation cost. But the more considerations the method takes, the higher complexites are involved in a large number of practical situations. The purpose of this paper is to develop a vehicle distribution planning system using heuristic algorithms and simulation techniques for home electronics companies. The vehicle distribution planning system developed by this study involve so complicated and stochastic conditions such as one depot, multiple nodes(demand points), multiple vehicle types, multiple order items, and other many restrictions for operating vehicles. The proposed system is compared with the nearest neighbor method and the savings method in terms of total logistics cost and driving time. This heuristic algorithm and simulation based distribution planning system is efficient in computational complexity, and give improved solutions with respect to the cost as well as the time. This method constructs a route with a minimum number of vehicles for a given demand.
