  • In this paper a hierarchical stereo matching algorithm based on feature extraction is proposed. The boundary (edge) as feature point in an image is first obtained by segmenting an image into red, green, blue and white regions. With the obtained boundary information, disparities are extracted by matching window on the image boundary, and the initial disparity map is generated when assigned the same disparity to neighbor pixels. The final disparity map is created with the initial disparity. The regions with the same initial disparity are classified into the regions with the same color and we search the disparity again in each region with the same color by changing block size and search range. The experiment results are evaluated on the Middlebury data set and it show that the proposed algorithm performed better than a phase based algorithm in the sense that only about 14% of the disparities for the entire image are inaccurate in the final disparity map. Furthermore, it was verified that the boundary of each region with the same disparity was clearly distinguished.

  • In this paper, a new stereo image watermarking scheme based-on adaptive disparity estimation algorithm is proposed. That is, a watermark image is embedded into the right image of a stereo image pair by using the DWT and disparity information is extracted from this watermarked right image and the left image. And then, both of this extracted disparity information and the left image are transmitted to the recipient through the communication channel. At the receiver, the watermarked right image is reconstructed from the received left image and disparity information through an adaptive matching algorithm. a watermark image is finally extracted from this reconstructed right image. From some experiments using CCETT's 'Manege' and 'Friends' images as a stereo image and English alphabet '3DRC' as a watermark image, it is found that the PSNRs of the watermarked image from the reconstructed right images through the adaptive matching algorithm & DWT is improved 2.03 dB, 3.03 dB and robusted against various attacks. These experimental results also suggest a possibility of practical implementation of an adaptive matching also-rithm-based stereo imagewatermarking scheme proposed in this paper.

  • In this paper, we propose a new stereo correspondence method for generating excellent external energy for snake-based object segmentation methods in stereo images. Our method first generates an edge-based disparity map by performing stereo correspondence between multi-level edge maps of the stereo image pair. Only edges of similar strength are considered for matching. To filter the disparity map for edges of the object of interest, the method estimates the object's disparity value by matching the pattern of edges of the region of interest in the left image against candidate patterns in the right image. The filtered edge map is then used to generate external energy for the snake. The proposed method has been tested on two snake models and results show a noticeable enhancement on performance of the snake when compared with other methods.

  • This paper proposes a pose-invariant face recognition method using cylindrical model and stereo camera. We divided this paper into two parts. One is single input image case, the other is stereo input image case. In single input image case, we normalized a face's yaw pose using cylindrical model, and in stereo input image case, we normalized a face's pitch pose using cylindrical model with previously estimated pitch pose angle by the stereo geometry. Also, since we have an advantage that we can utilize two images acquired at the same time, we can increase overall recognition performance by decision-level fusion. Through representative experiments, we achieved an increased recognition rate from 61.43% to 94.76% by the yaw pose transform, and the recognition rate with the proposed method achieves as good as that of the more complicated 3D face model. Also, by using stereo camera system we achieved an increased recognition rate 5.24% more for the case of upper face pose, and 3.34% more by decision-level fusion.

  • In this paper, we present a bifocal stereo camera system combining two cameras with different focal length cameras to generate stereoscopic image and their corresponding depth map. In order to obtain the depth data using the bifocal stereo camera system, we perform camera calibration to extract internal and external camera parameters for each camera. We calculate a common image plane and perform a image rectification for generating the depth map using camera parameters of bifocal stereo camera. Finally we use a SGM(Semi-global matching) algorithm to generate the depth map in this paper. The proposed bifocal stereo camera system can performs not only their own functions but also generates distance information about vehicles, pedestrians, and obstacles in the current driving environment. This made it possible to design safer autonomous vehicles.

  • Simultaneous measurement with PLIF(Planar Laser-Induced Fluorescence) and Stereo-PIV(Stereo Particle Image Velocimetry) was performed to investigate the structural characteristics of flow field in Rushton Turbine Mixer. Instantaneous 3D velocity fields are measured by two 2K${\times}$2K CCD cameras focused on an object plane with the angular displacement methods while the concentration fields are obtained through the measurement of the fluorescence intensity of Rhodamine B tracer excited by the second pulse of Nd:Yag laser light. Image distortion due to the camera view-angle is compensated by a mapping function. Finally, the spatial structures of turbulent flow around Rushton turbine were identified by the calculation of synchronized data of the velocity field and concentration field.

  • In this paper, we proposed that stereo camera system using fuzzy control for moving object tracking. We extract some features of the moving object from overall image. This informations send to the PC and the PC calculate the coordinate of the object in the image frame. To make the object set in the middle of the image, the step motor should be controlled accurately and rapidly with the location information received by the PC. Then we design a fuzzy logic system for controlling stereo camera system. To verify the better performance of the proposed algorithm, we exemplified by experimental results.

  • Tracking of an object in 3D space performed in real-time is a significant task in different domains from autonomous robots to smart vehicles. In traditional methods, specific data acquisition equipments such as radars, lasers etc, are used. Contemporary computer technology development accelerates image processing, and it results in three-dimensional stereo vision to be used for localizing and object tracking in space. This paper describes a system for tracking three dimensional motion of an object using color information in real time. We create stereo images using pair of a simple web camera, raw data of an object positions are collected under realistic noisy conditions. The system has been tested using OpenCV and Matlab and the results of the experiments are presented here.

  • In this paper, a method for recognizing 3-D objects using the 3-D Hough transform and the robust stereo vision is studied. A 3-D object is recognized through two steps; modeling step and matching step. In modeling step, features of the object are extracted by analyzing the IGES file. In matching step, the values of the sensed image are compared with those of the IGES file which is assumed to location and orientation in the 3-D Hough transform domain. Since we use the 3-D Hough transform domain of the input image directly, the sensitivity to the noise and the high computational complexity could be significantly allcv~ated. Also, the cost efficiency is improved using the robust stereo vision for obtaining depth map image which is needed for 3-D Hough transform. In order lo verify the proposed method, real telephone model is recognized. Thc results of the location and orientation of the model are presented.

  • This paper presents a method for measuring and analyzing strains in sheet metal forming by stereo vision system. A better understanding and evaluation of the formability can be achieved by analyzing stain distribution in deformed sheet metals. By means of image processing technique, it is possible to get strain distribution efficiently. For measuring strain automatically and accurately, algorithms for camera calibration, grid detection, stereo matching and strain analysis has been developed and verified by experiments with GUI(Graphic User Interface).
