Accelerated Generation Algorithm for an Elemental Image Array Using Depth Information in Computational Integral Imaging

  • In this paper, an accelerated generation algorithm to effectively generate an elemental image array in computational integral imaging system is proposed. In the proposed method, the depth information of 3D object is extracted from the images picked up by a stereo camera or depth camera. Then, the elemental image array can be generated by using the proposed accelerated generation algorithm with the depth information of 3D object. The resultant 3D image generated by the proposed accelerated generation algorithm was compared with that the conventional direct algorithm for verifying the efficiency of the proposed method. From the experimental results, the accuracy of elemental image generated by the proposed method could be confirmed.

  • Stereoscopic technology can be regarded as core basis technology which is commonly requested in field of next generation stereoscopic multi media information communication. Realization of stereoscopic image in order to express natural images that are close to reality is a part that human constantly put effort, it first began with visual recognition system, went through stereo picture by using binocular disparity and were conducted as video clip stereoscopic age. Life is changing, a new culture is formed, there were technological development which realized imagination as reality based on expansion of IT industry and core trend, and there is 3D stereoscopic image technology in the center. We will look at technology development tendency and development strategy of 3D stereoscopic image in this essay, and will suggest efficient usage plan of 3D stereoscopic image technology for continuous market expansion.

  • In stereoscopic television, there is a trade-off between visual comfort and 3-dimensional (3D) impact with respect to the baseline-stretch of a 3DTV camera. It is necessary to adjust the baseline-stretch at an appropriate the distance depending on the contents of a scene if we want to obtain a subjectively optimal quality of an image. However, it is very hard to obtain a small baseline-stretch using commercially available cameras of broadcasting quality where the sizes of the lens and CCD module are large. In order to overcome this limitation, we attempt to freely control the baseline-stretch of a stereoscopic camera by synthesizing the virtual views at the desired location of interval between two cameras. This proposed technique is based on the stereo matching and view synthesis techniques. We first obtain a dense disparity map using a hierarchical stereo matching with the edge-adaptive multiple shifted windows. Then, we synthesize the virtual views using the disparity map. Simulation results with various stereoscopic images demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

Automated Image Alignment and Monitoring Method for Efficient Stereoscopic 3D Contents Production (스테레오스코픽 3D 콘텐츠 제작의 효율성 향상을 위한 자동 영상정렬 및 모니터링 기법)

  • Minimization of visual fatigue is important for production of high quality stereoscopic 3D contents. Vertical disparity of stereo images occurred during contents production is considered as the main factor of visual fatigue. To ensure correct stereoscopy vertical disparity needs to be eliminated. In this paper, a method for automated image alignment was proposed for Stereoscopic 3D contents generation and post-processing steps. The proposed method consists of two parts: rectification for image alignment and camera motion detection. The proposed method showed that its rectification performance was the most superior among the existing methods tested and that camera motion detection had a success rate of 98.35%. Through these evaluations, we confirmed that the proposed method can be effectively applied to 3D contents production.

  • The Spatial Image contents of Geomorphology 3-D environment is focused by the requirement and importance in the fields such as, national land development plan, telecommunication facility management, railway construction, general construction engineering, Ubiquitous city development, safety and disaster prevention engineering. The currently used DEM system using contour lines, which embodies geographic information based on the 2-D digital maps and facility information has limitation in implementation in reproducing the 3-D spatial city. Moreover, this method often neglects the altitude of the rail way infrastructure which has narrow width and long length. This As the results, We confirmed the solutions of varieties application for railway facilities management using 3-D spatial image contents and database design. Also, I suggested that U-city using topographical modeling about matching methods of high density elevation value using 3-D aerial photo with laser data are best approach for detail stereo modeling and simulation. There for of this, Using of rapid spatial information generation by various images and laser data through matching methods for the make of Spatial data base management inplementation are very powerful and much application of our life and real worlds.

  • This study is an empirical study approach to investigating impact of 3D stereoscopic film's customer satisfaction. Using conventional methods, there were identified 3D stereo films's factors that character, story, dialogue, music, and 3D technical factors. And There were trying to analyze the impactive gaps of 3D stereoscopic film's customer satisfaction between high participation and low participation of customers about 3D film's. The results of this study can be summarized broadly as follows. First, the story and 3D technical factors was high-impact of customer's satisfaction at watching the 3D films. Second, 3D technical factors were highly correlated with customer satisfaction at the low participation group. And 3D technical factors and story were highly correlated with customer satisfaction at the high participation group. The conclusion is expected to provide useful suggestions about the selection of variables at the future 3D film study.

  • 본 논문은 스테레오 3D 비디오 시청 시 나타날 수 있는 불편감이나 어지러움 증상을 유발하는 요인들을 찾아내어 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 그 방법으로 2가지의 스테레오 3D 콘텐츠를 피험자들이 시청을 하고, 시청하는 동안 불편감이나 어지러움 증상이 나타나면 키를 누르게 하여 측정을 하였다. 콘텐츠에 대해서는 관심영역(ROI, Region of Interest)에 대하여 변위의 크기와 변화정도에 대한 데이터 정보를 도출하였다. 그래서 각 콘텐츠에 대해서 도출한 정보를 가지고 피험자들이 콘텐츠를 시청하면서 느낀 불편감과 어지러움에 대한 원인들을 분석하였다.

Performance Comparison of 3D File Formats on a Mobile Web Browser

  • As smartphone H/W performance and mobile communication service have been enhanced, large-capacity 3D modeling files are available in smartphones. Common formats of 3D modeling files include STL (STereoLithography), OBJ (Wavefront file format specification), FBX (Filmbox), and glTF (open GL Transmission Format). Each format has different characteristics depending on the configuration and functions, and formats that are supported are varied depending on the applications. Large-size files are commonly used. The 4th generation mobile communication network secures loading of 3D modeling files and transmission of large-size geometric files in order to provide augmented reality services via smartphones. This paper explains the concepts and characteristics of major 3D file formats such as OBJ, FBX, and glTF. In addition, it compares their performance in a wired web with that in the 4th generation mobile communication network. The loading time and packet transmission in each 3D format are also measured by means of different mobile web browsers (Google Chrome and MS Edge). The experiment result shows that glTF demonstrated the most efficient performance while the loading time of OBJ was relatively excessive. Findings of this study can be utilized in selecting specific 3D file formats for rendering time reduction depending on the mobile web environments.

IIR Filter Design of HRTF for Real-Time Implementation of 3D Sound by Synthetic Stereo Method (합성 스테레오 방식 3차원 입체음향의 실시간 구현을 위한 머리전달 함수의 IIR 필터 설계)

  • In this paper, we proposed an algorithm for the approximation of high order FIR filters by low order IIR filters to efficient implementing two channel 3-D surround sound systems using Head-related transfer functions(HRTFs). The algorithm is based on a concept of the balanced model reduction. The binaural sounds using the approximated HRTFs are reproduced by headphone, and serves as a cue of sound image localization. HRTFs of dummy-head are approximated from 512-order FIR filters by 32-order IIR filters and compare with each other. .Experiment of sound image are carried out for 10 participants. We perform the experiment based on computer simulation and hardware experiment with TMS320C32. The results of the experiments show that the localization using the approximated HRTFs is the same accuracy as the case of FIR filters that simulate the HRTFs.
