Background: Smokeless tobacco (SLT) has long been realized as an important component of the fight for global tobacco control. It still remains a major problem in countries like India, Bangladesh and Nepal. The objective of this study was to estimate the trends of SLT use in three countries of the SEARO WHO office. Materials and Methods: We used data from national surveys in three countries (Bangladesh, India and Nepal) to estimate trends in prevalence of current SLT use. All available nationally representative data sources were used. Estimates were weighted, age standardized and given along with 95% confidence intervals. Significance of linear trend in prevalence over time was tested using the Cochrane-Armitage test for trend. A p value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: We identified three surveys for Bangladesh, three for India and four for Nepal that met the selection criteria (such as Demographic and Health Surveys, WHO-STEPwise approach to Surveillance and Global Adult Tobacco Surveys). A significantly increasing trend was noticed in the prevalence of current SLT use among Bangladeshi men (20.2% to 23%, p=0.03). In India, a similar significantly increasing trend was seen among men (27.1% to 33.4%, p<0.001) and women (10.1% to 15.7%, p<0.001). In Nepal, there was a no significant trend among both men (39.1% to 31.6%, p=0.11) and women (5.6% to 4.7%, p=0.49). Conclusions: In the study countries SLT use has remained at alarmingly high levels. Usage trends do not show any signs of decline in spite of control efforts. Tobacco control measures should focus more on controlling SLT use.
This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the socio-demographic factors and the Korean consumers palatability evaluation grades with Hanwoo sensory evaluation data from 2006 to 2008 by National Institute of Animal Science. The dichotomy logistic regression model and the multinomial logistic regression model are fitted with the independent variables such as the consumer living location, age, gender occupation, monthly income, beef cut and the the palatability grade as the categorical dependent variable and tenderness, 리avor and juiciness as the continuous dependent variable. Stepwise variable selection procedure is incorporated to find the final model and odds ratios are calculated to nd the associations between categories.
Purpose: This study was conducted to assess the prevalence rate of, and the risk factors for pressure ulcers in critical patients at the time of intensive care unit (ICU) admission. Methods: We reviewed the electronic medical records of 2,107 patients who were admitted to the intensive care units in D university hospital between January 1 and December 31, 2012. The collected date were analyzed by ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, and multi-variate logistic regression with forward stepwise selection using the SPSS program version 21. Results: The prevalence rate of pressure ulcers at the ICU admission was 23.7%. Risk factors significantly affecting pressure ulcers carrying were the age of 80 years or older (OR=3.70, 95% CI: 1.80~7.60), body weight less than 50 kg (OR=2.82, 95% CI: 1.74~4.56), sedated consciousness (OR=6.10, 95% CI: 3.57~10.40), use of ventilator (OR=1.60, 95% CI: 1.02~2.49), use of vasopressors (OR=1.53, 95% CI: 1.09~2.14), ICU admission via operation room (OR=0.49, 95% CI: 0.29~0.85), and hospital admission from nursing homes (OR=13.65, 95% CI: 3.02~61.72). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggested that the prevention efforts for pressure ulcers should be given in prior to ICU admission. Further research is necessary for developing nursing interventions for preventing pressure ulcers in the pre-ICU stage.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: There are limited studies investigating the eating patterns of children's favorite foods. The present study aimed to evaluate a wide range of children's favorite foods, derive its eating patterns, and identify factors related to the patterns. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A nationwide cross-sectional study included 5,458 students in elementary, middle, and high schools. The survey was conducted at each school to evaluate children's favorite food intake, including the intake frequency of 31 food items or food groups, and its related factors, such as demographic, economic, and environmental characteristics and awareness of policies on children's favorite foods. Factor analysis using varimax rotation method and logistic regression analysis were conducted. RESULTS: Two factors were derived as major eating patterns from data of children's favorite foods: the 'unhealthy eating pattern' which mainly involves confectionery, chocolate, ramen, fried food, etc.; and the 'healthy eating pattern' which mainly involves soybean milk, vegetables, fruit juice, and nuts. A stepwise selection procedure through the regression analysis revealed that allowance, use of screen media, less awareness of policies on children's favorite foods, and less interest in health were positively related to the tendency of unhealthy or less-healthy eating patterns (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: This study examined that the eating patterns of children's favorite foods were associated with certain environmental characteristics and awareness about the related policies. These findings suggest that a nutrition education program regarding children's favorite foods needs to be conducted according to the characteristics of students to develop their healthy eating habits and proper choice of favorite foods.
Geographic variation of characteristics of cone, seed and bract morphology were examined in 8 populations of rare endemic Abies nephrolepis (Trautv.) Maxim and A. koreana Wilson. Additionally we studied classification index to distinguish between the species by the method of discriminant analysis. Nested ANOVA showed that there were statistically significant differences among populations as well as among individuals within populations in all 13 morphological traits. In the seed length, seed index, bract width, and bract index of A. nephrolepis and the bract width and index of A. koreana, variance components among populations were larger than those among individuals within populations. In discriminant analysis, three traits (cone width, length of seed wing, and bract length) were found to be useful in discriminating A. nephrolepis from A. koreana. The optimal classification results of stepwise selection were discriminated length of seed wing and bract length.
It is well established that blocking the interaction of EGFR with growth factors leads to the arrest of tumor growth, resulting in tumor cell death. ER414 is a human monoclonal antibody (mAb) derived by guided selection of the mouse mAb A13. The ER414 exhibited a ~17-fold lower affinity and, as a result, lower efficacy of inhibition of the EGF-mediated tyrosine phosphorylation of EGFR when compared with mAb A13 and cetuximab. We performed a stepwise in vitro affinity maturation to improve the affinity of ER414. We obtained a 3D model of ER414 to identify the amino acids in the CDRs that needed to be mutated. Clones were selected from the phage library with randomized amino acids in the CDRs and substitution of amino acids in the HCDR3 and LCDR1 of ER414 led to improved affinity. A clone, H3-14, with a ~20-fold increased affinity, was selected from the HCDR3 randomized library. Then three clones, ER2, ER78 and ER79, were selected from the LCDR1 randomized library based on the H3-14 but did not show further increased affinities compared to that of H3-14. Of the three, ER2 was chosen for further characterization due to its better expression than others. We successfully performed affinity maturation of ER414 and obtained antibodies with a similar affinity as cetuximab. And antibody from an affinity maturation inhibits the EGF-mediated tyrosine phosphorylation of EGFR in a manner similar to cetuximab.
With changing software industry structure, the emerging concept called Software Ecosystems (SECO) has various challenges that software engineers have to overcome. In market-driven software product development, they should have the capability to offer high value products to their own business and their customers in order to being competitive. Each stakeholder's perspectives and interests should be reconciled in terms of requirements so that engineers can offer high value products through requirements selection. Existing works have just mentioned the need of requirements negotiation between stakeholders without proposing detailed guidelines or practice. In this work, a systematic Requirements Negotiation process is proposed to resolve conflicts of interests of stakeholders in SECO. The interests of stakeholders are analyzed based on goal-based requirements engineering. The rationale of requirements conflict is structured for management. A stepwise requirements negotiation process aims at resolving requirements conflict by applying game theory concepts based on self-interested behaviors of stakeholders.
From April 9th to May 4th 2007, making a random selection of three private dental clinics in Busan, this study investigated the fear for dental treatment for 178 adults over twenty. Using four items of General Characteristics and DFS of twenty items, the degree of fear for dental treatment was evaluated by self administrated questionnaire. The obtained results were as follows. 1. Reliability analysis of each factor in details was 0.662~0.921 in Cronbach' alpha Coefficients. For Cronbach' alpha Coefficients was over 0.6. Dental Fear Survey Scale was reliable. 2. Dental stimulus response scale of three factors appeared more fear than two factors of the rest. The fear for dental treatment was higher in wemen, older ages, high education level and high income. 3. Factor of dental stimulus response scale, avoidance of dentistry and physiologic response scale accounted for 66.1%($R^2=66.1$)of the variation in dental fear factor as a result from stepwise regression analysis.
This study derives the factors which affect the occurrence of arson from statistical data (population, economic, and social factors) by multiple regression analysis. Multiple regression analysis applies to 4 forms of functions, linear functions, semi-log functions, inverse log functions, and dual log functions. Also analysis respectively functions by using the stepwise progress which considered selection and deletion of the independent variable factors by each steps. In order to solve a problem of multiple regression analysis, autocorrelation and multicollinearity, Variance Inflation Factor (VIF) and the Durbin-Watson coefficient were considered. Through the analysis, the optimal model was determined by adjusted Rsquared which means statistical significance used determination, Adjusted R-squared of linear function is scored 0.935 (93.5%), the highest of the 4 forms of function, and so linear function is the optimal model in this study. Then interpretation to the optimal model is conducted. As a result of the analysis, the factors affecting the arson were resulted in lines, the incidence of crime (0.829), the general divorce rate (0.151), the financial autonomy rate (0.149), and the consumer price index (0.099).

Several studies on the use of Support Vector Machines (SVMs) for diagnosing rotating machinery have been successfully carried out, but the fault classification depends on the input features as well as a multi-classification scheme, binary optimizer, kernel function, and the parameter to be used in the kernel function. Most of the published papers on multiclass SVM applications report the use of the same features to classify the faults. In this study, simple statistical features are determined on the basis of time domain vibration signals for various fault conditions, and the optimal features for each fault condition are selected. Then, the optimal features are used in the SVM training and in the classification of each fault condition. Simulation results using experimental data show that the results of the proposed stepwise classification approach with a relatively short training time are comparable to those for a single multi-class SVM.
