Based on reflected and transmitted waves by a single step bottom, a new model of scatterer method is constructed which can be used to calculate wave transformation over a multi-step topography. The approximate results are tested by comparison with the more accurate results obtained from EFEM presented by Kirby and Dalrymple(1983). In the case of plane-wave approximation, solutions of the scatterer method and the EFEM are the same. Results obtained by the scatterer method with non-propagating modes are much better, in terms of phase for the calculated reflection and transmission coefficients, than those by plane-wave approximation. As the effect of non-propagating modes decreases, solutions of the scatterer method become closer to those of the EFEM.

Most manufacturing companies are trying to develop a competitive product by increasing the quality, shortening time to market and reducing the cost of a product. Collaborators related to the development of a new product want to confirm geometric forms and dimensions during the design process, as well as to verify dimensional errors of a product during the fabrication process. Objective of this paper is the development of a collaborative design and dimension verification system on the Internet. STEP files obtained from the design process are used for the design and dimension verification. Functions of the design and dimension verification modules are constructed over the ActiveX control using the visual C/sup ++/ and OpenGL. By using mark up functions over the Internet, collaborators check geometries, interferences, dimensional errors, human factors and form errors, as well as share their design ideas and opinions with XML rapidly and remotely. The usefulness of the developed system is confirmed through case studies.
To evaluate LBM we performed the simulation of the unsteady two dimensional flow over a square cylinder in a channel in moderate Reynolds number range, $100\~500$ by using LBM and Fractional-Step method. Frist of all we compared LBM solution of Poiseuille flow applied Farout and periodic boundary conditions with the analytical solution to verify the applicability of the boundary conditions. For LBM simulation the calculation domain was formed by structured 500x100 grids. Prescribed maximum velocity and density inlet and Farout boundary conditions were imposed on the in-out boundaries. Bounceback boundary condition was applied to the channel and the cylinder waifs. The flow patterns and vortex shedding strouhal numbers were compared with previous research results. The flow patterns by LBM were in agreement with the flow pattern by fractional step method. Furthermore the strouhal number computed by LBM simulation result was more accurate than that of fractional step method through the comparison of the previous research results.
With the emergence of integrated global market and increased competition, many companies are interested in sharing the product model data. One of the solutions is to share the product model data over the computer network or the internet using a standard format. CAD/CAM, STEP, and internet technologies make it possible to share the product model data. This paper presents methods to visualize 3D STEP geometry data on the internet. To create an internet-based STEP model visualizer, the programming language Java and 3D scene description language VRML have been experimented. The STEP geometry data can be displayed either by Java applets of by a VRML browser. These visualization technologies are applied to a PDM development. Engineers who have a low cost web browser can share the expensive design information even at a remote site.
Throughout the economic development era of Korea, migration occurred within a spatial hierarchy, with upward flows from rural areas to urban. The concept of step migration is a typical theory to explain these upward migration flows. Recent migration data and trends, however, indicate that migration-pattern regime shows strongly opposite-direction flows, with many of the major migration flowing downward on this national-spatial hierarchy, away from urban areas. In this study, we examine the most recent structure of migration flows up and down within the national-spatial hierarchy. We define seven tiers to tabulate origin-destination migration flows from population density of local administrative districts for the period 2001-2014, and then analyze the migration patterns between the tiers over time. The results show differentiated patterns of migration within the national-spatial hierarchy over time including specific states of migrants' life cycles.
A probabilistic approach that combines structural demand hazard analysis with cumulative damage assessment is presented and applied to a steel tower of a wind turbine. The study presents the step by step procedure to compare the reliability over time of the structure subjected to fatigue, assuming: a) a binomial Weibull annual wind speed, and b) a traditional Weibull probability distribution function (PDF). The probabilistic analysis involves the calculation of force time simulated histories, fatigue analysis at the steel tower base, wind hazard curves and structural fragility curves. Differences in the structural reliability over time depending on the wind speed PDF assumed are found, and recommendations about selecting a real PDF are given.

Numerical analysis and measurements of the velocity and temperature distributions in buoyancy assisting laminar mixed convection flow over a vertically located, two-dimensional backward-facing step are reported. Laser-Doppler Velocimeter and Constant Temperature Anemometer operated in constant current were used to measure simultaneously the velocity and temperature distributions in the recirculation region downstream of the step. The reattachment length was measured by using flow visualization technique for different inlet velocities, wall temperatures and step heights. While the reattachment length $X_r$ increases as the inlet velocity or step height increase, it decreases as the buoyancy force increases, causing the size of the recirculation region to decrease. For the experimental range of $Gr_s$/$Re_{s}^{2}$$\times$$10^3$<17, a correlation equation for the reattachment length can be given by $X_{r}=1.05(2.13+0.021 Re_{s})exp$$(-33.7_s^{-0.186}/Gr_{s}/Re_{s}^2).$ The Nusselt number is found to increase and the location of its maximum value moves closer to the step as the buoyancy force increases. The location of the maximum Nusselt number occurs downstream of the reattachment point, and distance between the reattachment point and the location of the maximum Nusselt mumber increases as the buoyancy force increases. Computational prediction agrees favorably well with measured results.
The assessment of structural condition is a crucial process for evaluating its usability and determining the diagnostic cycle. The currently employed manpower-based methods suffer from issues related to safety, efficiency, and objectivity. To address these concerns, research based on deep learning using images is being conducted. However, acquiring structural damage data is challenging, making it difficult to construct a substantial amount of training data, thus limiting the effectiveness of deep learning-based condition assessment. In this study, we propose a foundation model-based 2-step structural damage analysis to overcome the lack of training data in image-based structural condition assessments. We subdivided the elements of structural condition assessment into instantiation and quantification. In the quantification step, we applied a foundation model for image segmentation. Our method demonstrated a 10%-point increase in mean intersection over union compared to conventional image segmentation techniques, with a notable 40%-point improvement in the case of rebar exposure. We anticipate that our proposed approach will enhance performance in domains where acquiring training data is challenging.

An information sharing system, namely World Design View, is developed for browsing product design data on the World Wide Web environment. For the last few years information sharing has been rapidly emerging as an important research issue in the areas of concurrent engineering, product data management, virtual manufacturing, and so on. Since we are mainly concerned with product development, the key information that needs be communicated and shared is product data. The developed system puts the major advantages of STEP, OODB, and VRML together. The STEP standard provides a consistent data exchange format and application interfaces among different CAD/CAM systems. OODB is efficient and effective in dealing with complex data structures often found in engineering applications. Virtual worlds for 3-D product models can be created by VRML which is networked via the global Internet and hyperlinked with WWW. The World Design View system can support for members of virtual design teams, possibly distributed all over the world, to share 3-D shape information quickly and easily.

STEP is a neutral model for exchanging CAD modelbetween different CAD systms. The paper presents a laser path contour generation for rapid prototyping originated form STEP format files without using any tools nor libraries for STEP data manipulation. Polygons are generated from every point on the layer of given thickness, which are the intersections of layer plane and edges stored in entity tables. Curves are approximated with polygons whitin segment tolerance limit in order to cover sculptured surfaces. With the advantage of less data loss in direct slicing over STL formats, the system developed in this work shows a good potential to provide data share with various CAD systems including RP data preparation.
