The Unified Wireless Control System for the Vibration Control of Bridge (교량의 진동제어를 위한 통합 무선제어 시스템)

  • This paper aimed at the development of a unified wireless control system in order to control various forms of vibration of bridges. This unified wireless control system unified all different systems each of which functioned for difference purpose such as measurement, analysis, judgement, and control of data acquired from the movement of structure. It was designed to control structures with feedback which was returned according to each different situation after analyzing various signals measured about the structure. In this system, every information in each step from measurement to control was wirelessly transmitted to its central system so that a manager was able to effectively monitor the whole process. Just for the case when any system control need to intervene occurred, a graph user interface was designed for better access. In order to evaluate its basic performance, an experiment was carried out to see how signal input and output were done by comparing its results with those of a wired system. On the basis of the experiment, a vibration control experiment was performed on a model of cable-stayed bridge to see if the unified wireless control system worked well in realtime. This was carried out under four conditions, and the graph and quantitative result under each condition were compared each other. All experiments proved that the unified wireless control system functioned as well as the wired one in terms of its basic performance and vibration control.

  • This paper presents high efficiency control system of automotive 35W electronic ballast for high intensity discharge(HID) lamp using switching flyback converter with variable frequency. Considering performance, size and efficiency of ballast, the flyback converter is designed with planar transformer in converter stage. HID lamp demands a highly efficient ballast and very complex control circuitry that can control complex transient state for applying to automotive. The proposed electronic ballast system is composed of a flyback converter using planar transformer, a full bridge inverter, and a step up igniter. In this system, switching frequency of flyback converter is controlled by varying input voltage of HID ballast and the price and the size of HID ballast using planar transformer can be reduced. The performance and efficiency of the posed system are verified through various the experiment results.

  • To supply a high voltage to an inverter, a motor control unit (MCU) generally employs a front-end boost converter. Because it generates a high output voltage, the converter needs an output capacitor, which has a high working voltage resulted in cost increasing. To solve this problem, we present a bidirectional dc-to-dc converter, which can decrease a working voltage of the output capacitor. Basic characteristic of the proposed converter is similar to a conventional boost converter. A difference comes from the structure of the output terminal connecting an output capacitor and an input battery in series. Owing to this circuit configuration, the working voltage of the output capacitor becomes lower than that of a conventional boost converter. After theoretical analysis, we carry out simulations and experiments to verify the validity and performance comparing with a conventional boost converter.

  • The differential white blood cell count plays an important role in the diagnosis of different diseases. It is a tedious task to count these classes of cell manually. An automatic counter using computer vision helps to perform this medical test rapidly and accurately. Most commercial-available automatic white blood cell analysis composed mainly 3 steps including segmentation, feature extraction and classification. In this paper we concentrate on the first step in automatic white-blood-cell analysis by proposing a segmentation scheme that utilizes a benefit of active contour. Specifically, the binary image is obtained by thresolding of the input blood smear image. The initial shape of active is then placed roughly inside the white blood cell and allowed to grow to fit the shape of individual white blood cell. The white blood cell is then separated using the extracted contour. The force that drives the active contour is the combination of gradient vector flow force and balloon force. Our purposed technique can handle very promising to separate the remaining red blood cells.

  • A tactile stimulator array using stacked PZT is fabricated and evaluated in this paper. The purpose of this research is the development of a tactile stimulator to represent the obstacle information for the visually disabled. As a first step of this research, we investigate the physiological characteristics of tactile stimuli and design a tactile stimulator based on the investigated results. Also we evaluated a fabricated tactile stimulator. The prototype of tactile stimulator which has 2x2 tactor elements with 3mm spacing is fabricated using stacked PZT actuator. In order to evaluate the characteristics of this tactile stimulator, physiological experiments are carried out. In the experiment, the threshold of tactile stimulus intensity within a frequency range of 5-500Hz and at various stimulus amplitudes are investigated. According to the obtained experimental result, the input signal of tactile stimulator for the transfer of obstacle information is determined. Also physiological experiments of multi-stimuli recognition such as shift and rotation are carried out.

  • Power conversion system must be increased switching frequency in order to achieve a small size, a light weight and a low noise. However, the switches of converter are subjected to high switching power losses and switching stresses. As a result of those, the power system brings on a low efficiency. In this paper, the authors propose a DC-DC boost converter of high power by partial resonant switch method (PRSM). The switching devices in a proposed circuit are operated with soft switching and the control technique of those is simplified for switch to drive in constant duty cycle. The partial resonant circuit makes use of a inductor using step up and a condenser of loss-less snubber. Also the circuit has a merit which is taken to increase of efficiency, as it makes to a regeneration at input source of accumulated energy in snubber condenser without loss of snubber in conventional circuit. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of system is high. The proposed converter is deemed the most suitable for high power applications where the power switching devices are used.

  • Precision stages for 6-DOF positioning, actuated by PZT stacks, which are fed back by gap sensors and guided by flexure hinges, have enlarged their application territory in micro/nano manufacturing and measurement area. The precision stages inherently have such limitations as the nonlinearity between input and output in piezoelectric stacks, feedback signal noise in precision capacitive gap sensors and low material damping in precision kinematic linkages of mechanical flexures. To surmount these limitations, the precision stage is modeled with physics-based variables, which are identified by transient response correspondence, and a gain margin calculation algorithm using the Prandtl-Ishlinskii model and describing function is newly developed to assess system performance more precisely than linear controller design schemes. Based on such analyses, a precision positioning controller is designed. Excellent positioning accuracy with rapid settlement accomplished by the controller is shown in step responses of the closed-loop system.

  • This paper proposes a new dynamic hardware allocation and binding algorithm of a simultaneous allocation and binding for SOC design automation. The proposed algorithm works on scheduled input graph and simultaneously allocates binds functional units, interconnections and registers by considering interdependency between operations and storage elements in each control step, in order to share registers and interconnections connected to functional units, as much as possible. This paper shows the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by comparing experiments to determine number of function unit in advance or by comparing separated executing allocation and binding of existing system.

  • In this paper, a new method for first order plus dead time(FOPDT) model identification is proposed, which can identity multiple points on a process step response in terms of classification of time response. The process input and output to the test are decomposed into the transient part and the steady-state part. The steady-state part express one FOPDT model and the transient part express variously FOPDT model using least square estimation method. The optimum parameter tuning algorithm for PID controller of the Smith Predictor is proposed through ITAE as performance index. The Simulation results show the validity and improvement of performance for various processes.

  • The need of forecasting river flows arised whenever a river authority must make controls to protect the life and property from the flood and maintain the adequate flows for water use. This study is on the real time flood forecasting from the gauged and ungauged rainfall input and identification of second-order autoregressive(AR(2)) which is used as system model. A Kalman filter is used to obtain the values of the system parameters needed for the optimal control strategy. This system model was applied to the data at the Naiu gauging station in Young san river basin to check the accuracy and efficiency of prediction. One step ahead prediction is checked by stochastic analysis and the order of autoregressive model is proved to be satisfied, Discussions on interesting features of the model are presented.
