  • In this study, an adaptive control scheme with a pre-specified $H_{\infty}$ property is proposed for the tracking control of linear induction motor (LIM) drive system. Under the influence of uncertainties and external disturbances, by using nonlinear decoupling and parameter tuner, the robust performance control problem is formulated as a nonlinear $H_{\infty}$ problem and solved by a quadratic storage function. This new design method is able to track the step and several periodic commands with improved performance in face of parameter perturbations and external disturbances. Simulation and experimental results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive $H_{\infty}$ controller.

  • This paper presents a camera calibration method using several images for three dimensional measurement applications such as stereo systems, mobile robots, and visual inspection systems in factories. Conventional calibration methods that use single image suffer from errors related to reference point extraction in image, lens distortion, and numerical analysis of nonlinear optimization. The camera parameter values obtained from images of same camera is not same even though we use same calibration method. The camera parameters that are obtained from several images of different view for a calibration target is usaully not same with large error values and we can not assume a special probabilistic distribution when we estimate the parameter values. In this paper, the median value of camera parameters from several images is used to improve estimation of the camera values in an iterative step with nonlinear optimization. The proposed method is proved by experiments using real images.

  • Simulation programs have been developed and used as an attempt to improve the accuracy of Non-Destructive Evaluation(NDE) techniques. The applicability of these programs is very limited, however, because it is difficult to describe the delicacy of the propagation of stress waves. To investigate the applicability of the finite element analysis for stress wave-based NDE techniques numerical simulation for Impact-Echo method and SASW method is performed. The numerical studies are performed to determine the essential parameters such as contact time of impact load, mesh size and time step size. These studies show that the choice of parameter is very important for improving the accuracy and confidence of the numerical procedure and, thereby, the applicability of the numerical analysis for stress wave-based NDE techniques

  • The emergency diesel generator(EDG) of the nuclear power plant is designed to supply the power to the nuclear reactor on Station Black Out(SBO) condition. The operation reliability of onsite emergency diesel generator should be ensured by a conditioning monitoring system designed to monitor and analysis the condition of diesel generator. For this purpose, we have developing the technologies of condition monitoring for the wolsong unit 3&4 standby diesel generator including diesel engine performance. In this paper, technologies of condition monitoring for the wolsong standby diesel generator are described about three step. First is for selection of operating parameter for monitoring. Second is for technologies of online condition monitoring, Third is for monitoring of engine performance.

  • In order to evaluate a solenoid actuator's reliability, the following three-step approach was used: (1) we analyzed the cause and effect of major failures through FMEA and FTA, decided the main test items through 2-stage QFD; (2) after a performance test was carried out, five-sampled data were collected from the it; finally, we decided the reliability parameters for the industrial solenoid actuator. The reliability parameters, such as the shape parameter(${\beta}$), the scale parameter(${\theta}$), etc., were analyzed inductively by the use of MINITAP and the Weibull probability model which has been used practically in the study of the reliability.

  • In this paper, a new design method for IMC-PID that adds a phase scaling factor of system identifications to the standard IMC-PID controller as a control parameter is proposed. Based on analytically derived frequency properties such as gain and phase margins, this tuning rule is an optimal control method determining the optimum values of controlling factors to minimize the cost function, integral error criterion of the step response in time domain, in the constraints of design parameters to guarantee qualified frequency design specifications. The proposed controller improves existing single-parameter design methods of IMC-PID in the inflexibility problem to be able to consider various design specifications. Its effectiveness is examined by a simulation example, where a comparison of the performances obtained with the proposed tuning rule and with other common tuning rules is shown.

  • Total Variation(TV) regularization method is effective for reconstructing "blocky", discontinuous images from contaminated image with noise. But TV is represented by highly nonlinear integro-differential equation that is hard to solve. There have been much effort to obtain stable and fast methods. C. Vogel introduced "the Fixed Point Lagged Diffusivity Iteration", which solves the nonlinear equation by linearizing. In this paper, we apply multigrid(MG) method for cell centered finite difference (CCFD) to solve system arise at each step of this fixed point iteration. In numerical simulation, we test various images varying noises and regularization parameter $\alpha$ and smoothness $\beta$ which appear in TV method. Numerical tests show that the parameter ${\beta}$ does not affect the solution if it is sufficiently small. We compute optimal $\alpha$ that minimizes the error with respect to $L^2$ norm and $H^1$ norm and compare reconstructed images.

  • Since changepoint identification is important in many data analysis problem, we wish to make inference about the locations of one or more changepoints of the sequence. We consider the Bayesian nonparameteric inference for multiple changepoint problem using a Bayesian segmentation procedure proposed by Yang and Kuo (2000). A mixture of products of Dirichlet process is used as a prior distribution. To decide whether there exists a single change or not, our approach depends on nonparametric Bayesian Schwartz information criterion at each step. We discuss how to choose the precision parameter (total mass parameter) in nonparametric setting and show that the discreteness of the Dirichlet process prior can ha17e a large effect on the nonparametric Bayesian Schwartz information criterion and leads to conclusions that are very different results from reasonable parametric model. One example is proposed to show this effect.

  • Speech coding techniques have been studied to reduce the complexity and bit rate but also to improve the sound quality. CELP type vocoder, has used as a one of standard, supports the great sound quality even low bit rate. In this paper, the preprocessing of input speech to reduce the bit rate is the different with the conventional vocoder. The different kinds of parameter are used for the preprocessing so this paper is compared with theses parameters for finding the more appropriate parameter for the vocoder. The parameters are used to synthesize the speech not to encode or decode for coding technique so we proposed the simple algorithm not to have the influence on the processing time or the computation time. The parameters in used the preprocessing step are speaking rate, duration and PSOLA technique.

  • In this paper, we propose a parameter-free smoothing method for speckle images, i.e., an adaptive least squares image smoothing technique implemented in a multistep environment. The pertinent smoothing window size at a given pixel is determined by the discontinuity measure which is defined by the ratio of the local variance and mean squares of intensity values of pixels over the smoothing window centered there. The mode of the discontinuity measure at each step is estimated to replace the noise variance parameter that is required in the adaptive smoothing. Computer simulation shows that the proposed multistep technique can smooth homogeneous regions satisfactorily while preserving fine details near boundaries.
