  • A liquid chromatographic method for the enantiomer separation of fluoxetine was performed using covalently bonded and coated type polysaccharide-derived chiral stationary phases (CSPs). The degree of enantioseparation is affected by the used CSPs and mobile phases. The performance of Chiralpak IC was superior to the other CSPs used in this study. Out of various solvent composition and additives, the greatest separation and resolution was observed using Chiralpak IC with mobile phase of 2-propanol in hexane with diethylamine as an additive. Semi-preparative separation of fluoxetine was performed on the analytical Chiralpak IC column to obtain (R)- and (S)-fluoxetine enantiomer with high chemical and optical purity. From the overall study, the developed liquid chromatographic method on polysaccharide-derived CSPs is expected to be very useful for the enantiomer separation of fluoxetine.

  • In this paper, we propose a single-channel speech enhancement method based on restoration of both spectral amplitudes and phases for PTT (Push-To-Talk) communication. The proposed method combines the spectral amplitude and phase enhancement to provide high-quality speech unlike other single-channel speech enhancement methods which only use spectral amplitudes. We carried out side-by-side comparison experiment in various non-stationary noise environments in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The experimental results show that the proposed method provides high quality speech better than other methods under different noise conditions.

  • Stand-alone inverter supplies constant voltage to loads. However, when a three-phase stand-alone inverter supplies unbalanced load, the generated output voltages also become unbalanced. The nonlinear characteristics of inverter dead time cause a more serious distortion in the output voltage. With unbalanced load, voltage distortion caused by dead time differs from voltage distortion under balanced load. Phase voltages in the stationary reference frame include unbalanced odd harmonics and then, d-q axis voltages in the synchronous reference frame have even harmonics with different magnitude, which are mitigated by the proposed multiple resonant controller. This study analyzes the voltage distortion caused by unbalanced load and dead time, and proposes a novel dead time compensation method. The proposed control method is tested on a 10-kW stand-alone inverter system, and shows that total harmonic distortion (THD) is reduced to 1.5% from 4.3%.

  • We present a new method of volumetric interferometer, which is intended to measure the three-dimensional coordinates of a moving object in a simultaneous way with a single optical setup. The method is based on the principles of phase-measuring interferometry with phase shifting. Two diffraction point sources, which are made of the polished ends of single-mode optical fibers are embedded on the object. Two spherical wavefronts emanate from the diffraction point sources and interfere with each other within the measurement volume. One wavefront is phase-shifted by elongating the corresponding fiber using a PZT extender. A CCD array sensor fixed at the stationary measurement station detects the resulting interference field. The measured phases are then related to the three-dimensional location of the object with a set of non-liner equations of Euclidean distance, from which the complete set of three-dimensional spatial coordinates of the object is determined through rigorous numerical computation based upon the least square error minimization.

  • This paper applies a compensated low pass filter (LPF) to current measurements for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. The noise limits the bandwidth of current controllers and has more adverse influences on control performances under the light load condition because of the low signal-to-noise ratio. In order to eliminate the noise sensitivity, this paper proposes a digital LPF with a compensator of gain attenuation and phase delay which are unacceptable in current information for PMSM drives. Characteristics of the proposed LPF are analyzed in comparison with the general LPFs. The compensated LPF is basically designed by the orthogonal property of the measured currents in the ${\alpha}{\beta}$ stationary reference frame. In addition, an implementation issue of the proposed method is discussed. Experimental results using the proposed method show improvements of the current control performance from two perspectives, rapid step responses and reductions of harmonic distortion.

  • In the present paper, a numerical method based on the constraint interpolation profile (CIP) method is applied for simulating two-dimensional violent sloshing problems. The free surface boundary value problem is considered as a multiphase problem which includes water and air. A stationary Cartesian grid system is adopted, and an interface capturing method is used to trace the shape of free surface profile. The CIP combined unified procedure (CCUP) scheme is applied for flow solver, and the tangent of hyperbola for interface capturing (THINC) scheme is used for interface capturing. Numerical simulations have been carried out for partially-filled 2D tanks under forced sway and roll motions at various filling depths and frequencies. The computational results are compared with experiments and/or the other numerical results to validate the present numerical method.

  • The autoregressive method provides a univariate procedure to predict the future sunspot number (SSN) based on past record. The strength of this method lies in the possibility that from past data it yields the SSN in the future as a function of time. On the other hand, its major limitation comes from the intrinsic complexity of solar magnetic activity that may deviate from the linear stationary process assumption that is the basis of the autoregressive model. By analyzing the residual errors produced by the method, we have obtained the following conclusions: (1) the optimal duration of the past time for the forecast is found to be 8.5 years; (2) the standard error increases with prediction horizon and the errors are mostly systematic ones resulting from the incompleteness of the autoregressive model; (3) there is a tendency that the predicted value is underestimated in the activity rising phase, while it is overestimated in the declining phase; (5) the model prediction of a new Solar Cycle is fairly good when it is similar to the previous one, but is bad when the new cycle is much different from the previous one; (6) a reasonably good prediction of a new cycle can be made using the AR model 1.5 years after the start of the cycle. In addition, we predict the next cycle (Solar Cycle 25) will reach the peak in 2024 at the activity level similar to the current cycle.

  • Two methods for the chiral purity determination of bevantolol were developed, namely capillary electrophoresis (CE) using carboxymethyl-${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (CM-${\beta}$-CD) as a chiral selector and high-perfomance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a chiral stationary phase. In the HPLC method, the separation of bevantolol enantiomers was performed on a Chiralpak AD-H column by isocratic elution with n-hexane-ethanol-diethylamine (10:90:0.1, v/v/v) as mobile phase. In the CE method, bevantolol enantiomers were separated on an uncoated fused silica capillary with 50 mM amonium phosphate dibasic adjusted to a pH 6.5 with phosphoric acid containing 15 mM CM-${\beta}$-CD as running buffer. Validation data such as linearity, recovery, detection limit, and precision of the two methods are presented. The detection limits of S-(-)-bevantolol were 0.1% and 0.05% for CE and HPLC method, respectively and R-(+)-bevantolol were 0.15% and 0.05% for CE and HPLC method, respectively. There was generally good agreement between the HPLC and CE results.

  • Phlorotannins are reported to have diverse biological properties. However, no analytical methods for the standardization of phlorotannin preparations have been reported. Herein, we developed and validated an analytical method for the determination of dieckol in phlorotannin extracts (PRT) using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The optimum HPLC conditions consisted of a Supelco Discovery C18 column stationary phase, a mobile phase (A: 15 % HPLC grade methanol in deionized water, B: methanol), UV detection at 230 nm, and a flow rate of 0.7 mL/min. The optimized chromatographic conditions were validated and exhibited good specificity and linearity ($R^2$ > 0.9994-1.0000). The recoveries were in the range of 100.9-102.3 %. The method had good intermediate (%RSD 1.2) and intra-day (%RSD 0.4-1.7) assay precisions. This HPLC method had good accuracy and quality in the determination of dieckol in PRT.

  • A motor model and off-line diagnosis method of the induction motor having an interturn fault(ITF) is studied. The proposed method is based on the magnitude comparison of the six impedance in the d-q plane. To prove the impedance unbalance, the induction motor model is presented with an ITF circuit loop with a fault resistance. Then, six impedance components in the stationary d-q plane are defined depending on the connected phase windings. Finding the maximum and minimum magnitude of the six impedance, the ITF and the faulty phase can be founded. To verify the proposed method, the experimental results with an induction motor having an ITF are shown.
