  • Since the previous cut-and-try design algorithm requires much cost and time, the automated design technique with the CFD and optimum design algorithm has recently been concerned. In this work, the Navier-Stokes equation was solved to gain more detailed viscous flow information of cascade with rotor-stator interactions. The H-grid embedded by O-grid was generated to obtain more accurate solution by eliminating the branch cut of H-grid near airfoil surface. To handle the relative motion of the rotor to the stationary stator, the sliding multiblock method was applied and the cubic-spline interpolation was used on the block interface boundary. To validate present procedure, the time-averaged aerodynamic loads were compared with experimeatal data. A good agreement was obtained. The Modified Method of Feasible Direction (MMFD) was used to carry out the sensitivity analysis of the change of aerodynamic performance by the changes of the cascade geometry. The present optimization of the cascade gave a dramatic reduction of the drag while the lift maintains at the value within the user-specified tolerance.

  • The effects of dead-time and offset error, which cause output current distortion in single-phase grid-connected inverters are investigated this paper. Offset error is typically generated by measuring phase current, including the voltage unbalance of analog devices and non-ideal characteristics in current measurement paths. Dead-time inevitably occurs during generation of the gate signal for controlling power semiconductor switches. Hence, the performance of the grid-connected inverter is significantly degraded because of the current ripples. The current and voltage, including ripple components on the synchronous reference frame and stationary reference frame, are analyzed in detail. An algorithm, which has the proportional resonant controller, is also proposed to reduce current ripple components in the synchronous PI current regulator. As a result, computational complexity of the proposed algorithm is greatly simplified, and the magnitude of the current ripples is significantly decreased. The simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed current ripple reduction algorithm.

  • Transient aerodynamic response of an airfoil to a rapidly deploying spoiler is numerically investigated using a two-dimensional turbulent compressible Navier-Stokes flow model. The spoiler moving relative to a stationary airfoil is treated by an overset grid bounded by a 'dynamic domain-dividing line' the concept of which is developed first..in this paper. The fluid-dynamic mechanism of the adverse lift due to the rapidly deploying spoiler is analyzed. Also the effect of spoiler deploying rate on the initial behavior of the aerodynamic response is expounded, which is of interest in view of active control technology and controller design for the spoiler. The results of present computation about the stationary as well as moving spoilers are relatively in good agreement with the existing experimental data.

  • In order to reduce the excessive numerical dissipation, the new spatial discretization scheme is introduced. The present method in this paper has the formula that has an additional procedure of defining transferred properties at a cell-interface, based on AUSMPW+. The newly defined transferred property could eliminate numerical dissipation effectively in non-flow aligned grid system. In addition, the present method guarantees the monotonic characteristic in capturing a discontinuity. Through a stationary or moving contact discontinuity and a stationary or moving shock discontinuity, a vortex discontinuity and shock wave/ boundary layer interaction, it is verified that the accuracy of the present method is improved.

  • A simple method is proposed to split the flux vector of the Euler equations by introducing two artificial wave speeds. The direction of wave propagation can be adjusted by these two wave speeds. This idea greatly simplifies the upwinding, and leads to a new family of upwind schemes. Numerical flux function for multi-dimensional Euler equations is formulated for any grid system, structured or unstructured. A remarkable simplicity of the scheme is that it successfully achieves one-sided approximation for all waves without recourse to any matrix operation. Moreover, its accuracy is comparable with the exact Riemann solver. For 1-D Euler equations, the scheme actually surpasses the exact solver in avoiding expansion shocks without any additional entropy fix. The scheme can exactly resolve stationary contact discontinuities, and it is also freed of the carbuncle problem in multidimensional computations.

  • The enhanced phase angle estimation algorithm is essential to supply the power stably under synchronizing with grid source. In this paper, we are proposed the novel phase angle estimation algorithm and verified the validity of proposed method as simulation with PSIM and experiments. We sort the harmonics element using high-pass filter(HPF) that have the cut-off frequency below basic element and make reverse d-q transformation. So, it can be restored the harmonics element at stationary axis, and we can get the fundamental voltage element of AC grid. Proposed PLL method have a rapid responsibility and a large margin at controller design than conventional method because it have a small phase delay and a sufficient controller gain margin. And, it can reduce the error of voltage rms value and axis transformation according to robust PLL algorithm against the harmonic and phase unbalance.

  • Two-dimensional lid-driven closed flows within square cavity were studied numerically for four Reynolds numbers : $10^4$, 3$\times10^4$, 5$\times10^4$ and 7.5$\times10^4$. A convective difference scheme to maintain the same spatial accurary by irregular grid correction is adopted by applying the interior division principle. Grid number is $80\times80$and its minimum size is about 1/400 of the cavity height. At Re=$10^4$, periodic migration of small eddies appearing in corner separation region and its temporal sinusoidal fluctuation are represented. At three higher Reynolds numbers(3$\times10^4$, 5$\times10^4$ and 7.5$\times10^4$), an organizing structure of four consecutive vorticles at two lower corners is revealed from time-mean flow patterns. But, instantaneous flow characteristics show very random unsteady fluctuation mainly due to the interaction between rotating shed vortices and stationary eddies within the corners.

  • Objective signs are everywhere that the stationary energy storage market is growing up quickly. The use of distributed resources such as solar photovoltaics and electric vehicles are expanding at a rapid pace, creating technical challenges for the distribution system that will require energy storage and a new generation of software to address. This paper is intended for distribution utility managers and executives and makes the following points: ${\bullet}$ Utility-integrated (as opposed to merely grid-connected) energy storage projects represent a distinct, new wave of industry growth that is just getting underway and is required to manage distributed energy resources moving forward. ${\bullet}$ Utilities and the energy storage industry have important roles to lower risk in adopting this technology - thereby enabling this wave of growth. ${\circ}$ The industry must focus on engineering energy storage for adoption at scale - including the creation and support of software open standards -both to drive down costs and to limit technology and supplier risk for utilities. ${\circ}$ Utilities need to take a program-based, rather than a project- based, approach to this resource to best balance cost and risk as they procure and implement energy storage. By working together to drive down costs and manage risk, utilities and their suppliers can lay the energy storage foundation for a new, more digital distributed electricity system.

  • This paper proposes a grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) system, consisting of Voltage-fed dual-active-bridge (DAB) dc-dc converter with single phase inverter. The proposed converter allows a small dc-link capacitor, so that system reliability can be improved by replacing electrolytic capacitors with film capacitors. The double line frequency free maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is also realized in the proposed converter by using Ripple Correlation method. First of all, to eliminate the double line frequency ripple which influence the reduction of DC source capacitance, control is developed. Then, a designing of Current control in DQ frame is analyzed and to fulfill the international harmonics standards such as IEEE 519 and P1547, $3^{rd}$ harmonic in the grid is directly compensated by the feedforward terms generated by the PR controller with the grid current in stationary frame to achieve desire Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). 5-kW PV converter and inverter module with a small dc-link film capacitor was built in the laboratory with the proposed control and MPPT algorithm. Experimental results are given to validate the converter performance.

  • A mesoscale meteorological model is applied to simulate turbulent airflow and eddy shedding over the Isle of Arran, SW Scotland, UK. Under conditions of NW flow, the mountain ridge of Kintyre, located upwind of Arran, induces gravity waves that also affect the airflow over the island. The possibility to nest domains allows description of the airflow over Arran with a very high resolution grid, while also including the effects of the surrounding mainland of Scotland, in particular of the mountain ridge of Kintyre. Initialised with a stably stratified NW flow, the mesoscale model simulates quasi-stationary gravity waves over the island induced by Kintyre. Embedded in the larger scale wave trains there is continuous development of small-scale transient eddies, created at the Arran hill tops, that move downstream through the stationary wave field. Although the transient eddies are more frequently simulated on the northern island where the terrain is more pronounced, they are also produced over Tighvein, a hill of 458 m on the southern island where measurements of surface pressure and 2 m meteorological variables have been recorded at intermittent intervals between 1996 and 2000. Comparison between early observations and simulations so far show qualitatively good agreement. Overall the computations demonstrate that turbulent flow can be modelled with a horizontal resolution of 70 m, and describe turbulent eddy structure on wavelength of only a few hundred metres.
