Editing Depression Features in Static CAD Models Using Selective Volume Decomposition (선택적 볼륨분해를 이용한 정적 CAD 모델의 함몰특징형상 수정)

  • Static CAD models are the CAD models that do not have feature information and modeling history. These static models are generated by translating CAD models in a specific CAD system into neutral formats such as STEP and IGES. When a CAD model is translated into a neutral format, its precious feature information such as feature parameters and modeling history is lost. Once the feature information is lost, the advantage of feature based modeling is not valid any longer, and modification for the model is purely dependent on geometric and topological manipulations. However, the capabilities of the existing methods to modify static CAD models are limited, Direct modification methods such as tweaking can only handle the modifications that do not involve topological changes. There was also an approach to modify static CAD model by using volume decomposition. However, this approach was also limited to modifications of protrusion features. To address this problem, we extend the volume decomposition approach to handle not only protrusion features but also depression features in a static CAD model. This method first generates the model that contains the volume of depression feature using the bounding box of a static CAD model. The difference between the model and the bounding box is selectively decomposed into so called the feature volume and the base volume. A modification of depression feature is achieved by manipulating the feature volume of the static CAD model.

  • A viscoelastic constitutive equation of rubber that is under small oscillatory load superimposed on large static deformation is proposed. The proposed model is derived through linearization of Simo's viscoelastic constitutive model and reference configuration transformation. The proposed constitutive equation is extended to a generalized viscoelastic constitutive equation that includes widely used Mormin's model as a special case using objective stress increment. Static deformation correction factor is introduced to consider the influence of Pre-strain on the relaxation function. The proposed constitutive model is tested fer dynamic behavior of rubber specimens with different carbon black contents. It is concluded from the test that the viscoelastic constitutive equation for filled rubber must include the influence of the static deformation on the time effects. The suggested constitutive equation with static deformation correction factor shows good agreement with test values.

  • This paper describes a detailed simulation model of the static condenser (STATCON) to analyze the dynamic interaction with the ac transmission line. The static condenser was represented by a 12-pulse voltage-source inverter sharing an energy storage dc capacitor. The voltage-source inverter consists of two 6-pulse bridges modeled with ideal gate-turn-off switches. The control system for the static condenser was designed through a mathematical model deduced from the equivalent circuit. Simulation results show that the conceived model is very effective to analyze the dynamic interaction between the static condenser and the ac transmission system.

The proposed model is derived through linearization of Simos nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive model and reference configuration transformation. Statically pre-deformed state is used as reference configuration. The model is extended to a generalized viscoelastic constitutive equation including widely-used Mormans model. Static deformation correction factor is introduced to consider the influence of pre-strain on the relaxation function. The model is tested for dynamic behavior of rubbers with different carbon black fractions. It is shown that the constitutive equation with static deformation correction factor agrees well with test results.

Static Stiffness Tuning Method of Rotational Joint of Machining Center (머시닝센터 회전 결합부의 정강성 Tuning 기법)

  • A method has been developed to tune the static stiffness at a rotation joint considering the whole machine tool system by interactive use of finite element method and experiment. This paper describes the procedure of this method and shows the results. The method uses the static experiment on measurement model which is set-up so that the effects of uncertain factors can be excluded. For FEM simulation, the rotation joint model is simplified using only spindle, bearing and spring. At the rotation joint, the damping coefficient is ignored, The spindle and bearing is connected by only spring. By static experiment, 500 N is forced to the front and behind portion of spindle and the deformation is measured by capacitive sensor. The deformation by FEM simulation is extracted with changing the static stiffness from the initial static stiffness considering only rotation joint. The tuning static stiffness is obtained by exploring the static stiffness directly trusting the deformation from the static experiment. Finally, the general tuning method of the static stiffness of machine tool joint is proposed using the force stream and the modal analysis of machine tool.

Automated static condensation method for local analysis of large finite element models

  • In this paper, we introduce an efficient new model reduction method, named the automated static condensation method, which is developed for the local analysis of large finite element models. The algebraic multilevel substructuring procedure is modified appropriately, and then applied to the original static condensation method. The retained substructure, which is the local finite element model to be analyzed, is defined, and then the remaining part of the global model is automatically partitioned into many omitted substructures in an algebraic perspective. For an efficient condensation procedure, a substructural tree diagram and substructural sets are established. Using these, the omitted substructures are sequentially condensed into the retained substructure to construct the reduced model. Using several large practical engineering problems, the performance of the proposed method is demonstrated in terms of its solution accuracy and computational efficiency, compared to the original static condensation method and the superelement technique.

  • This paper presents a new method for construction of a static obstacle map. A static obstacle is important since it is utilized to path planning and decision. Several established approaches generate static obstacle map by grid method and counting algorithm. However, these approaches are occasionally ineffective since the density of LiDAR layer is low. Our approach solved this problem by applying probability theory. First, we converted all LiDAR point to Gaussian distribution to considers an uncertainty of LiDAR point. This Gaussian distribution represents likelihood of obstacle. Second, we modeled dynamic transition of a static obstacle map by adopting the Hidden Markov Model. Due to the dynamic characteristics of the vehicle in relation to the conditions of the next stage only, a more accurate map of the obstacles can be obtained using the Hidden Markov Model. Experimental data obtained from test driving demonstrates that our approach is suitable for mapping static obstacles. In addition, this result shows that our algorithm has an advantage in estimating not only static obstacles but also dynamic characteristics of moving target such as driving vehicles.

  • In this paper, we proposed static output feedback model predictive control for Wiener models. We adopted polytopic uncertainty description of Wiener Model Predictive Control (WMPC) algorithms for considering output nonlinearities. Robust stability conditions have been presented under which the closed loop stability of static output feedback MPC is guaranteed. The proposed control law is determined from the static output feedback WMPC based on the current estimated state with explicit satisfaction of input constraints.

Accurate Non-Quasi-Static Gate-Source Impedance Model of RF MOSFETs

  • An improved non-quasi-static gate-source impedance model including a parallel RC block for short-channel MOSFETs is developed to simulate RF MOSFET input characteristics accurately in the wide range of high frequency. The non-quasi-static model parameters are accurately determined using the physical input equivalent circuit. This improved model results in much better agreements between the measured and modelled input impedance than a simple one with a non-quasi-static resistance up to 40GHz, verifying its accuracy.

  • Cyclic fatigue experiment was carried out to predict the life time of alumina ceramics. Four kinds of model were suggested to obtain the adequate representative static stress corresponding to the cyclic stress applied to the alumina specimens. Arithmetic mean stress model gives 21.81 of the crack growth exponent, integrated stress model gives 22.15, maximum stress model gives 24.57, and equivalent static stress model gives 24.43. It is considered that the equivalent static stress model is the most reasonable and gives the best adequate crack growth exponents value.
