  • An adaptive output feedback controller is designed for tracking control of an n-link robot manipulator with unknown load. High-gain obwserver that is used to estimate joint velocities is designed to avoide the restriction of the allowable variation range of unknown parmeters as well as improve the state estimation error. We saturate the control inut outside a domain of interest and use an adaptive law with a parameter projection feature to guarantee boundedness of all the trajectories in the closed-loop system. Simulation resutls on a 2-link manipulator illustrate that when the speed of the high-gain observer is sufficiently high, the proposed controller recovers the performance under state feedback control.

  • In this paper, robust adaptive control design problem is addressed for a class of parametrically uncertain aeroelastic systems. A full-state robust adaptive controller was designed to suppress aeroelastic vibrations of a nonlinear wing section. The design used leading and trailing edge control actuations. The full state feedback (FSFB) control yielded a global uniformly ultimately bounded result for two-axis vibration suppression. The pitching and plunging displacements were measurable; however, the pitching and plunging rates were not measurable. Thus, a high gain observer was used to modify the FSFB control design to become an output feedback (OFB) design while the stability analysis for the OFB control law was presented. Simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of the multi-input multi-output control toward suppressing aeroelastic vibrations and limit cycle oscillations occurring in pre- and post-flutter velocity regimes.

  • The electromagnetic levitation(EMS) system is one of the well-known nonlinear system because of its nonlinearity and several control techniques have been proposed. We propose an ${\epsilon}$-scaling partial feedback controller for the ball position control of the EMS system. The key feature of our proposed controller is the use of the scaling factor ${\epsilon}$ which provides a function of controller gain tuning along with robustness. In this paper, we show the stability analysis of our proposed controller and the convergence analysis of the state observer in terms of ${\epsilon}$-scaling factor. In addition, the experimental results show the validity of the proposed controller and improved control performance over the conventional PID controller.

  • Lithium-Ion batteries have become the best tradeoff between energy, power density and cost of the energy storage system in many portable high electric power applications. In order to manage the battery efficiently State of Charge (SOC) of the battery needs to be estimated accurately. In this paper a model-based approach to estimate the SOC of the Lithium-Ion battery based on the estimation of the battery impedance is proposed. The validity and feasibility of the proposed algorithm is verified by the experimental results.

  • Explicit state-space formulate for an H$_{.inf}$ based two-degrees-of-freedom robust controller are derived in discrete-time. The controller provides robust stability against coprime factor uncertainty, and a degree of robust performance in the sense of making the closed-loop system match a prespecified reference model. It is shown that the controller consists of a plant observer, the chosen reference model, and a generalized state feedback law associated with the plant and model states. The controller structure is shown to be relatively simple and thus may reduce the computational load on the digital control processor.

  • This paper presents a design method of deadbeat controller for DC motor driving a rotational system with gear. The results of sampling a continuous-data process does not guarantee that no ripples occur between the sampling instants in the continuous-data output, but the proposed deadbeat control system that consists of the integral controller and the full state observer, and zero order hold using in continuous systems, has many advantages of such as an output response without the ripple and reaching the steady state without error after a given sampling period and faster settling time than the optimal control system in the short sampling period. The results of case study through matlab simulation shown that the efficiency of the proposed controller for DC motor driving a rotational system with gear, is verified by comparing with optimal controller etc.

  • This paper presents a robust control of a smart flexible structure featured by a piezofilm actuator characterizing its light weght and quick response time. A mathematical governing equation for the proposed structure is derived by employing Hamilton's principle and a state space control model is subsequentrly obtained through modal analysis. Uncertain system parameters such as frequency variation are included in the control model. A sliding mode control theroy thich has inherent robustness to systme uncertainties is adopted to design a tracking controller for the peizofilm actuator. Using the output informaiton from the tip deflection sensor, a full-order observer is constructed ot estimate state variables for the system. Tracking performances for desired trajectories of sinusoidal amd step functions are evaluated by undertaking both simulation and experimental works.

  • We present a new state-space approach to construct a dynamic output feedback controller which stabilizes a class of linear time invariant systems. All the states of the given system are not measurable and only the output is used to design the stabilizing control law. In the design scheme, however, we first assume that the given system can be stabilized by a feedback law composed of the output and its derivatives of a certain order. Beginning with this assumption, we systematically construct a dynamic system which removes the need of the derivatives. The main advantage of the proposed controller is regarding the controller order, which may be smaller than that of conventional output feedback controller. Using a simple numerical example, it is shown that the order of the proposed controller is indeed smaller than that of reduced-order observer based output feedback controller.

  • This paper presents a pseudo-sensor-output-feedback(PSOF) method for the vibration suppression of the flexible piezoelectric smart structures. This method reduces the modeling errors using pseudo sensors in the output equation formulation. It also reduces computation time in practice. since the output equation does not need the state observer required in the state space equation. Experimental works are performed for the validation of theoretical predictions with the piezoelectric sensor and actuator bonded on the cantilever beam. An algorithm based on the sliding mode control theory is developed and analyzed for the robustness to the modeling errors and parameter uncertainties. This study also discusses the characteristics of the active and semi-active systems.

  • Up to now, there has been a lot of researches on the sliding mode control which has the insensitive characteristics to the variations of plant parameters, nonlinearities and external disturbances. One dificulty in applying the sliding mode control is the need for the knowledge of the full-state vector. The use of state observer is a natural step towards the relaxation of this condition. However, the exact plant-modeling is assumed to be known. Recently, there has been a remarkable advance in the microprocessor and one can construct the controller which could not realize due to hardware restriction in the past. Therefore in this paper, the PID sliding mode controller which has only one output feedback signal is suggested by means of microprocessor and the performance of electro-hydraulic servosystem compersated with this controller is proved.
