The purpose of this study is to determine the progress of the implementation of the Servicebased Library 2.0 in Korean university libraries. We assess the Service-based Library 2.0 based on the web site analysis of 179 different Korean university libraries. Highlights of our survey include: (1) The most accessed features of the Service-based Library 2.0, were the 'Book Review', 'RSS', 'Tag & Tagging', 'Mobile App', 'Facet' and 'Open API'. (2) Among 179 libraries, of the 16 different services offered by the Service-based Library 2.0, 145 libraries opted for 4 or fewer services offered through the Service, 3 libraries opted for 5-9 services and 3 libraries availed themselves of 10 or more services. (3) More national university libraries than private libraries are implementing Service-based Library 2.0, including such services as 'Book Review', 'RSS', 'Mobile App', 'Facet', 'Blog', 'Twitter', 'Personnel service', 'SMS', 'Facebook'.

The National Library of Korea is the nation's representative library, serving as a repository of knowledge and cultural heritage, and as a service center for the distribution / management, and provision of national knowledge and information. Recently, the library has been increasingly urged to respond to changes in the environment surrounding the libraries. It is time for National Library of Korea to consider the future directions and improvements of library services. This study is aimed at providing future directions and policies regarding library services. Analysis on library services in national libraries: This study analyzed the current state of the services of NLK, the current states of the services of major national libraries, and stakeholder analysis. It is expected that the service direction for NLK can be a cornerstone of the service directions for other libraries.

The purpose of this study is to recommend on the public library service for older adults through the analysis of the perceptions of older adults and librarians. To achieve the study purpose, interview method was employed. The interview questions are composed based on the ALA guidelines. According to the study results, the following ten factors were recommended by older adults: 1) various customized life long learning programs for older adults, 2) highly qualified staff for the public library life long learning programs and regular evaluation for the staff, 3) provision of various and new information resources, 4) promotion of public library services and programs, 5) public library staff's kindness and professionalism, 6) regular reeducation of the public library staff, 7) library user education, 8) customized resources, facilities, and equipments for older adults, 9) provision of the library space, and 10) customized library services for older adults. In addition, the following four factors were mentioned by librarians: 1) customized services and programs for older adults, 2) customized collection, facilities, and equipments, 3) adequate budget for public library service for older adults, 4) professionals for the public library service for older adults. The followings were recommended by both the older adults and librarians: 1) Customized library services, programs, collection, equipments, facilities for older adults, 2) Professionals for the public library service for older adults and Regular reeducation for them.

Despite the continuous development and provisions of state public library standards there has been little research about how useful they are for what aspects of public library activities The purposes of the present study are 1) to understand, from the directors points of view the utility of state standards for planning and evaluation: and 2) to explore the types of factors, related to the directors' backgrounds and/or the library planning and evaluation contexts associated with the directors perceptions. Through a self-administered mail questionnaire, 1,198 public library directors in Kansas Texas and Wisconsin were surveyed. and 737 directors replied ($61.5\%$ response rate). The directors perceived the standards useful for both planning and evaluation. Public library directors viewed the collection and service standards as more useful than administration, staffing and facilities standards. Library size and community involvement were associated with the directors perceptions, yet the directors professional background, was not significantly related to his or her perceptions. The findings suggest that public library directors perceptions of the utility of state standards need to be understood within the library condition and Its community context. and the emphasis on community based public library planning and evaluation should continue to be employed in the standards.

The purpose of this research is to expand much more the facilities and collections of public libraries in Korea for performance of its function, for the life-long education institution. In order to accomplish the purpose of this study, I looked in to the present conditions of the facilities, collections, service facilities in public libraries and suggested a tentative plan on the basis of every kinds of statistics. The result of this thesis can be summarized as follows : 1. Now, 227, 110 populations of the effective service per library are so many that 181 public libraries in Korea have largely deficient state. To solve, a n.0, pplied for Armstrong's standards (5, 000 populations of the effective service per library, and the number of an elementary school 5, 412 elementary schools in Korea). In the former case should be establish 8, 221 public libraries, in the latter case should be established at least 5, 412 public libraries. 2. The public library in Korea is possessed of building areas of 82, 267 pyong (468 pyong per library). They are very poor state comparing with population. Therefore, the building area should be expand according to population by region. Also, the reading facilities of 88, 455 seats, 465 population of the effective service per seat, are largely insufficient of situation. And consequently they should be secured at least 205, 535 seats with standards of five seats per 1, 000 population. 3. The public libraries in Korea keep collection of 4, 517, 280 volumes. As there are 11 volumes per 100 persons, they are very deficient state in figures. Therefore, in this study, suggested Schenk's standard (1 volume per a person) and IFLA standard (2 volumes per a person). Under the circumstances of our country, however, they should be secure at least 41, 106, 993 volumes with a Schenk's standard of one volume per a person. To meet this kind of necessary conditions, there must not only be a national policy but also be a facility for every residents to utilize for educational place, and to every librarians of public libraries, they have to do their best to open their library to every citizens, when needed, with their self-conceit. Cooperating with policy-makers, users, and librarians, making every endeavors to develope Korean libraries, we can promise the hope that our public library will be progressed towards future.

Reference services have taken a central place in library and information services. But current digital libraries focus more on access to digital information, and hardly lay emphasis on the service aspects. This paper looks at the current state of research in reference services in digital libraries. It first analyses some representative definitions of digital reference services. It then provides a brief overview of the various online reference and information services currently available on the Web. The paper also reviews the types of the digital reference service in major 'Aska' service sites. Finally, the paper proposes new digital reference service model that specifically bases on the sharing of the human and information.

The World Health Organization estimated that more than a billion people (or 15% of the world's population) lives with disabilities. They have the same information needs as non-disabled people. Nevertheless, as the World Blind Union estimated, less than 10% of published books are ever made into accessible formats in developed countries. The role of the national library should be very important to improve the information accessibility for the disabled. Based on this perspective, this study analyzed and compared the history and development, legal basis and organization, main functions and tasks, and service features for the disabled for the Library of Congress of the United States, MTM(Myndigheten för Tillgängliga Medier) of Sweden, National Diet Library of Japan, and SALB (South African Library for the Blind) of Republic of South Africa representing the nationwide disability services by continent. And based on the results of the analysis, this study suggested ways to strengthen the capacity of the National Library for the Disabled of Korea.

This study was conducted with the aim of identifying the current state and improvements of the public library services for older adult in Korea. According to the online survey of public libraries in urban areas across the country, a total of 172 libraries responded. Research shows that public libraries generally recognize the importance of elderly users, but there are limitations in active efforts. The priority area for library collection and space/facilities was to be strengthened by the expansion of large type and voice books/periodical books, as well as the need to ask librarians for help to find books in high bookshelves. In the case of library services/programs, the areas that need to be strengthened first were analyzed as social participation programs and humanities programs. The librarians in charge of information services expressed their opinions that more specialized services and programs should be planned and subdivided for the elderly generation in order to provide older adults' services unique to other older adults' service institutions.

This study aimed to discover the notable experiences of Library and Information Science students in a virtual internship program. It employed qualitative descriptive research design by thematically analyzing the monthly internship journal of the interns. Using Colaizzi's method to identify themes from their experiences, the study revealed that interns expected to gain knowledge and skills on operations, services, and new information communication technologies in libraries. Orientation was found helpful in identifying the things interns needed to prepare. The interns faced issues from procrastination and technical difficulties, which they coped with employing avoidance strategies. Overall, the internship was viewed as an opportunity to learn and navigate the online digital system of the library despite the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. They realized their capacity and reflected on which competencies need improvement. In conclusion, students still learned the necessary knowledge and skills of a librarian; experienced the challenges faced in an actual library and were provided with various opportunities and realizations regarding the practice of librarianship. This study proposed a three-stage framework that outlines the involvement of the supervising instructors, librarians, and interns in the internship program from the preparation to the process and post-assessment.

The study aims at illustrating the current state of public libraries in Busan metro area and to suggest strategies for the development of public libraries system in Busan. For this, the study collected data through the statistics and interviews with librarians and administrators. As a result, five goals have been suggested. Followings are the suggestions to improve the current state of the public libraries in Busan area. 1) New programs on lifetime information needs; 2) Initiatives for multicultural services in public libraries; 3) Continuous construction of new public libraries and renovation in older facilities; 4) Improvement of public library service environment, especially in personnel and collection development, and; 5) Support for the regional main library system.
