  • The network throughput is an important performance criteria for the packet ring networks. Since maximizing the network throughput can lead to severe bias in bandwidth allocation among all flows, fairness should be imposed to prevent bandwidth starvation. The challenge here, therefore, is the joint optimization of the network throughput and fairness. In this paper, we present the optimal bandwidth assignment scheme to decompose this optimization problem into two tasks, one for finding fair bandwidth assignment and the other for finding the optimal routing. The network throughput is maximized under the fairness constraints when these tasks are performed iteratively.

  • In a batch scheduling policy being different from real video system, the requests are not served immediately due to grouping user's requests upon every scheduling points. Such waiting delays by inefficient managements makes an unfair service to users and increases the possibility of higher reneging rates. This paper proposes an adaptive batch scheduling scheme which reduces the average waiting time of user’s requests and reduces the starvation problem for requesters of less popular movies. The proposed scheme selects dynamically multiple videos in given intervals based on the service patterns which reflect the popularity distribution and resource utilizations. Experimental simulation shows that proposed scheme improves about 20-30 percent of average waiting time and reduces significantly the starving requesters comparing with those of conventional methods such as FCFS and MQL.

  • Block data transfer poses a serious problem is a pipelined bus where each data transfer step is pipelined. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of a variable data block transfer protocol for a pipelined bus of a shared-memory multiprocessor. The proposed method maintains compatibility with the existing protocol for the pipelined bus and ensures fairness and effectiveness by preventing starvation. We present flow charts of requester and responder during a block transfer in the pipelined bus that uses the proposed protocol. The proposed protocol was implemented for the TICOM-III HiPi+Bus.

  • There are coexisting various kinds of data in the large scale database system, the maintenance problem of freshness of data is emerging important issue that provide correctness and usefulness information to users. Most solution of this problem depends on how execute effectively required refreshing query within timely time. In this paper, we propose the refreshing scheduling algorithm to retain the freshness of data and fairness of starvation of requested refresh queries. Our algorithm recompute a rate of goal refreshing a every period to assign execution time of requested refreshing query so that we can keep the freshness and fairness of data by using proposed algorithm. We implement the web sites to showing the results of refreshing process of dynamic and semi-dynamic and static data.

  • An important problem in low-dose CT is the image quality degradation caused by photon starvation. There are a lot of algorithms in sinogram domain or image domain to solve this problem. In view of strong self-similarity contained in the special sinusoid-like strip data in the sinogram space, we propose a novel non-local filtering, whose average weights are related to both the image FBP (filtered backprojection) reconstructed from restored sinogram data and the image directly FBP reconstructed from noisy sinogram data. In the process of sinogram restoration, we apply a non-local method with smoothness parameters adjusted adaptively to the variance of noisy sinogram data, which makes the method much effective for noise reduction in sinogram domain. Simulation experiments show that our proposed method by filtering in both image and projection domains has a better performance in noise reduction and details preservation in reconstructed images.

  • The basic mechanism of lubrication between the piston ring and the cylinder wall is developed theoretically under the assumption of a reciprocating and dynamically loaded slider-bearing pair of parabolic form and smooth plane. A numerical computation for the prediction in cyclic variations of film thickness, net lubricant flow and frictional behaviour is attempted, and the influenec on the performance characteristics due to the ring height, ring face radius of curvature and the degree of offset, is also examined. The computational procedures develeped for a single ring system are extended and applied further to the complex problem of a ring pack system. It is well known that the ring pressure which is the total load on a ring, can be obtained from either an experimental measurement or a gas flow analysis. In this work, the latter of a gas low analysis method was used to calculate the pressures. It is remarked that the work done was focused on the role of flow continuity and lubricant starvation within the ring pack lubrication.

  • In this paper we propose a QoS-enhanced intelligent stochastic optimal fair real-time packet scheduler, QUEST, for 4G LTE traffic in routers. The objective of this research is to maximize the system QoS subject to the constraint that the processor utilization is kept nearly at 100 percent. The QUEST has following unique advantages. First, it solves the challenging problem of starvation for low priority process - buffered streaming video and TCP based; second, it solves the major bottleneck of the scheduler Earliest Deadline First's failure at heavy loads. Finally, QUEST offers the benefit of arbitrarily pre-programming the process utilization ratio.Three classes of multimedia 4G LTE QCI traffic, conversational voice, live streaming video, buffered streaming video and TCP based applications have been considered. We analyse two most important QoS metrics, packet loss rate (PLR) and mean waiting time. All claims are supported by discrete event and Monte Carlo simulations. The simulation results show that the QUEST scheduler outperforms current state-of-the-art benchmark schedulers. The proposed scheduler offers 37 percent improvement in PLR and 23 percent improvement in mean waiting time over the best competing current scheduler Accuracy-aware EDF.

  • The waiting delays of internet VOD users are inevitable in this policy since the services are not taken immediately upon requests but upon every scheduling points. An inefficient management of such delays makes an unfair service to users and increases the possibility of higher reneging rates. This paper proposes an efficient service scheduling scheme which improves the average waiting time of users requests and reduces the starvation problem of users requesting less popular movies. Experimental results of simulations show that the proposed scheme improves about 20 percentage of average waiting time and reduces significantly the starving requesters comparing with those of conventional methods such as FCFS and MQL.

  • This paper presents a bottleneck detection framework using simulation approach in a wafer FAB (Fabrication). In a semiconductor manufacturing industry, wafer FAB facility contains various equipment and dozens kinds of wafer products. The wafer FAB has many characteristics, such as re-entrant processing flow, batch tools. The performance of a complex manufacturing system (i.e. semiconductor wafer FAB) is mainly decided by a bottleneck. This paper defines the problem of a bottleneck process and propose a simulation based framework for bottleneck detection. The bottleneck is not the viewpoint of a machine, but the viewpoint of a step with the highest WIP in its upstream buffer and severe fluctuation. In this paper, focus on the classification of bottleneck steps and then verify the steps are not in a starvation state in last, regardless of dispatching rules. By the proposed framework of this paper, the performance of a wafer FAB is improved in on-time delivery and the mean of minimum of cycle time.
