  • This study was carried out to investigate the nutritional and physical status of children, aged 11 and 12 years, living in Haenam Koon (living at home) and in Mokpo City (living in an orphan asylum) located in Chonnam during the period of August 2 nd to 9 th in 1984. The mean values of height, chestgirth, arm circumference and head circumference between both groups of living in the rural area and in the city orphan asylum were not statistically different and similar to Korean Growth Standard. Exceptionally, the values of height and weight of male living at home in the rural area were lower than Korean Growth Standard (p<0.01). The weight of male living in the city orphan asylum was higher han that of male living at home in the rural area (p<0.01), and the skin fold thickness of female living at home was higher than that of male living at home (p <0.01). The physical indices of children living in the city orphan asylum were more or less higher than those of living at home in the rural area, but the relative weight of male was only significant (p<0.05). The animal protein intake was $8.4{\sim}8.6%$ of total food intake of living at home in the rural area and 6.2% in living in the city orphan asylum. The intake of legumes of children living in the city orphan asylum was more two times than that of living at home in the rural area, but overall fruit intake of living at home was more about two times than that of living in the city orphan asylum. The average intake of all nutrients except thiamine and niacin was lower than RDA. Especially the calcium intake of children in both groups was the lowest of all nutrients ($28.9{\sim}40.6%$ of RDA). Children living at home in the rural area had significantly higher intake of fat and ascorbic acid than children living in the city orphan asylum (p<0.01).

  • The aim of this study was to recognize the need of three generation family house that is traditional house type of Korea. First, the pre-research analysis method was used for this study. And then, there are three type's grouping like those are as follows; 1) Recognition of three generation family house. 2) Type of three generation family house. 3) Plans of three generation family house. The analysis results are as follows; If the conditions are better than now, recognition is positive. Type are living together and next doors type can direct access. Some standart plan is been about room's number, house's area, bath's number and so on. Second, try to compare plan - this plan already has been used building - with standard plan. The compare result are as follows; three generation family houses - be used by whom - do not apply to standard plan. Almost houses have a three room that is less than the standard plan. All houses have a number of two bath that is less than the standard plan too. Condition of consideration is suitable to ages in next door type, but in case of living together type that consider user whom is use the inner room. Separation of entrance distinguish between the living together type and the next doors type. In case of living together type Dining with Kitchen room's number is one, but the next doors type have the number of two.

  • Financial barrier is well known as a determinant of the perceived need for and utilization of medical care in urban areas. This study aims to; a) estimate the levels of the perceived need for and utilization of medical care, b) analyze the reasons for not receiving medical care, and c) determine factors affecting the levels of need and utilization, and major reasons for not receiving medical care. The data of household interview survey in urban areas collected for a National Survey on Reorganization of Nationwide Health Care Delivery Network is used. An interview was conducted with a total of 2, 538 households in urban areas during a 28 day period of October through November, 1981, giving an overall response rate of 99 percent. The results show a factor of third-party payer is most influential to utilization (physician visits by patient), and living standard is a determinant to explain the variance of major reasons for not receiving medical care. Therefore, financial burden is still a major determent in utilization of medical care in urban areas. Improved level of living standard and expanded coverage of the third-party payer such as health insurance and public medical assistance will increase both an overall levels of utilization of and the need for medical care in urban areas in the future. The major statistics are as follows; a) rate of the need for medical care during a 15 day period per 100 persons was 33 percent: the differential rates appeared in sex, age, living standard, and third- party payer variables, b) percent of treatment employed per 100 persons who are wanting medical care was 82: the percents were high in young ages, high levels of living standard and education, and persons covered by third-party payer, and c) economic reasons for not receiving medical care per 100 persons who are wanting medical care were occupied with 60 percent: the rates are high in old ages, low levels of living standard and persons not covered by third-party payer.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify household’s level and standard of consumption and their related variables in order to derive some useful implications for developing sustainable lifestyle. Data were collected from 567 household wives living in Seoul and the five Metropolitan cities in Korea. The results showed that most households owned such goods as central heating system, shower and bath, refrigerator, microwave oven, vacuum cleaner, washer. TV video player, personal computer, mobile phone, and car. They thought that most of the goods were necessary for the desired level of living and has a strong aspiration to buy those goods. This implied a tendency of uniformity in need perceptions and consumption patterns among Korean households. However, level and standard of consumption measured in selected living area differed according to age. education family size, household income, occupation, and the size housing, which showed that different approach was needed for developing sustainable lifestyle according to these variables.

  • Progress in medical science and cell biology has resulted in the transplantation of human cells and tissues from on human into another, facilitating reproduction and the restoration of form and function, as well as enhancing the quality of life. For more than 40 years, society has recognized the medical and humanitarian value of donation and transplanting organs and tissues. The standard operating procedures of hard tissues reflect the collective expertise and conscientious efforts of tissue bank professionals to provide a foundation for the guidance of tissue banking activities. Procurement of allograft tissues from surgical bone donors is a part of tissue banking. During the past decades the use of bone allografts has become widely accepted for the filling of skelectal defects in a variety of surgical procedures. In particular in the field of orthopaedic and oral and maxillofacial surgery the demand for allografts obtained from either living or post-mortem donors has increased. Hospital-based tissue banks mainly retrieve allografts from living donors undergoing primary total hip replacement for osteoarthritis or hemi arthroplasty for hip fractures and orthgnatic surgery such as angle reduction. Although bone banks have existed for many years, the elements of organized and maintaining a hospital bone bank have not been well documented. The experience with a tissue bank at Korea Tissue Bank(KTB) between 2001 and 2004 provides a model of procurement, storage, processing, sterilization and documentation associated with such a facility. The following report describes the standard operating procedures of hard tissues such as femoral head obtained from living donors.

  • The appropriate area for human's most basic living space is an important factor. Therefore, the 'minimum housing standard' is a very important factor to ensure a minimum quality of living space for human life. In Korea, however, the importance of the 'minimum housing standard' has been neglected for about 20 years. Even in Korea, the 'minimum housing standard' has become an nominal existence. In other countries, studies have long been conducted on the minimum housing standards, but studies have shown that studies on the minimum housing standard are not actively occurring in Korea. The purpose of this study is to diagnose the current status of the 'minimum housing standard' in Korea and to explore the direction of future research. The study included a total of 29 researches commissioned by the Korea Academic Research Institute (KCI). To ensure the objectivity and reliability of the analysis, analyzed year of research, field of research, method of research, contents of research. Through this study, it is possible to grasp the tendency of previous studies on 'minimum housing standard' in Korea and it is meaningful to increase the usability of 'minimum housing standard' in residential planning. It is also expected that future research on 'minimum housing standards' will be able to present the direction of the field to be developed.

  • Comparing with an upper generation who have experienced a living with a extended family in a sudden aged tendency, the Parent & Children generation who haven't had a experience in it. So they have much different life styles each generation. It may cause many problems that many generation are living in a common residential space. Further more every generation gets their own characteristic of the life style. In addition, the middle & lower generations's understanding can be explained on their position about an Grand-parent generation's using. In this study, I am going to find out the problems in these situation in comparison with each generation's understanding dwelling environment among them, and then analyze what affection of 3-generation sharing preference standard is given by the differences each generation have with the above result. The standard of living with an Grand-parent generation ; Children generation or living separately through evaluating the Parent & Children generation's residence surroundings will be estimated and the standard of importance of sharing house will be analyzed. And then the result will be used as basic information of planning the 3-generation sharing house.

  • Recently in Korea, noise is one of the most important social issues because the living standard becomes more higher. Railway noise is also annoying one in our society, although railway has very positive role in our country. The major measures for mitigation of railway noise in Korea are rail welding and installation of noise barrier on the noisy area. But these measures have its own limit for the calm and comfortable living environment. In Europe the railway noise problem has been treated more systematically and aggressively, there has been emission noise standard for Trans-European rail network. In this paper, the trend of noise standard for railway vehicles will be reported and the check point for our country will be discussed.
