  • The Dublin Core element set has been developed over the past years as an open, consensus-building metadata from many user communities. Wider adoption in many countries made this metadata a major resource discovery standard on the internet. The version 1.1 of the Dublin Core element set was adopted as CEN Workshop Agreement 13874 in Europe, and also ratified under the auspices of the National Information Standards Organization in US as ANSI Standard Z39.85. This report summarizes the standardization activities that have taken place in the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative for the past years.

  • This paper introduces computerized version of Hangout(Korean Language) Standard Pronunciation Rule that can be used in Korean processing systems such as Korean voice synthesis system and Korean voice recognition system. For this purpose, we build Petri net models for each items of the Standard Pronunciation Rule, and then integrate them into the vocal sound conversion table. The reversion of Hangul Standard Pronunciation Rule regulates the way of matching vocal sounds into grammatically correct written characters. This paper presents not only the vocal sound conversion table but also character conversion table obtained by reversely converting the vocal sound conversion table. Making use of these tables, we have implemented a Hangeul character into a vocal sound system and a Korean vocal sound into character conversion system, and tested them with various data sets reflecting all the items of the Standard Pronunciation Rule to verify the soundness and completeness of our tables. The test results shows that the tables improves the process speed in addition to the soundness and completeness.

  • The aim of this study was to translate and validate the revised Nottingham Sensory Assessment(rNSA) in Republic of Korea. A cross-sectional study was conducted to translate the rNSA into Korean using a modified forward/backward translation procedure. Inter-rater and intra-rater reliability, internal consistency, and concurrent validity were investigated to validate the Korean version rNSA. The Korean version rNSA showed excellent inter-rater reliability (r=0.92-1.00) and intra-rater reliability (r=0.93-1.00). Significant correlations were found between sensory assessment results of the Korean version of the rNSA and the Korean Fugl Meyer Assessment Sensory subscales (r=0.96). The Cronbach α value of internal consistency of Korean version rNSA was ranged from 0.73 to 0.90, the value of K-FMA-S was ranged from 0.70 to 0.88. In these results, psychometric properties of the Korean version of the rNSA achieved the standard level and can be feasible in clinical practice to assess sensory function following stroke in Republic of Korea.

  • When designing protective clothing, there are something to be considered such as physiological feature of human body, acting range not to restrict physical activity, and effectiveness of material. Because the primary objective of protective clothing is to protect human body from danger and it is designed through complex designing process not likely general clothing design. However, current evaluation techniques-such as the ISO, the ASTM and the CEN, and KS-provide only the standard to evaluate the primary feature of material (testing, performance requirements, material specification, selection and application, test and care, and so on). There are no standard to evaluate influence for the human body while protective clothing put on. Especially, in Korea, there is KS to evaluate protective clothing, but it is partially translated version from ISO because of lack of core technology about this field. However, developed countries recognize it is new competitive means in the time of Global Standards and they are competing to make their own standard to global standard for the protective clothing. Therefore, it can be great opportunity for Korean clothing and textile industry to revitalize if focusing on research and development for protective clothing design based on physical activity of human body, fit evaluation technique and sizing which is currently no global standard for it and developing our standard to global standard.

  • RI-Biomics is a new concept that combines radioisotopes (RI) and Biomics. For efficient collection of information, establishment of database for technical information system and its application to the system, there is an increasing need for constructing the standard classification system of technical information by its systematical classification. In this paper, we have summarized the development process of the standard classification system of technical information in the field of RI-Biomics and its application to the system. Constructing the draft version for the standard classification system of technical information was based on that standard classification one in national science and technology in Korea. The final classification system was then derived through the reconstruction and the feedback process based on the consultation from the 7 experts. These results were applied to the database of technical information system after transforming as standard code. Thus, the standard classification system were composed of 5 large classifications and 20 small classifications, and those classification are expected to establish the foundation of information system by achieving the circular structure of collection-analysis-application of information.

  • Standard estimates are the numerical data of a unit quantity required for construction work such as the amount of materials, manpower, and the use of equipment required and are also a basis to calculate construction costs. Unfortunately, standard estimates for construction have also been used for garden construction these days as no standard estimates for garden construction have been developed or documented until now. As a result, many problems have arisen at garden construction sites since landscape construction and garden construction differ in terms of scope, size, design and construction methods. The purpose of this study was to develop standard estimates for garden construction for proper calculation of the cost of garden construction and to ensure gardens are created following appropriate construction processes. In order to develop standard estimates for garden construction, a preliminary survey was conducted on experts to understand current issues at first. After that, a questionnaire survey was done to examine problems of construction processes and ways of improvement, and on-site inspections were conducted utilizing CCTVs at construction sites to identify the actual amount of manpower required on site. Based on the results of the surveys and on-site inspections, a draft version of standard estimates for 5 types of planting work for garden construction was developed. Developing standard estimates for garden construction will serve as a stepping stone for the transparent and proper compensation for garden construction work, which will not only contribute to addressing issues between consumers and construction companies, but also to the stabilization of market economy and job creation.

  • Buildings become high and large. CFT(Concrete Filled steel Tube) columns have been developed to manage effectively that loads which columns support and cross sections of columns are increased. Because CFT column is the composite structure made of two different materials, many researches have been performed to look into mechanical behaviors. This study is an analytic study about bond stress on interface between concrete core and steel tube in circular and rectangular CFT columns. ABAQUS/Standard Version 5.8 is used to analyze bond stress by bond form and position of shear-connector, and improved analystic method about mechanical characters on interface is suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal the context within which EAD was developed, to review the elements and the structure of EAD 1.0 version and to introduce EAD as new standard for encoded archival finding aids in Korea. Encoded Archival Description(EAD) has been developed in 1993 in order to facilitate exchange of ISAD(G) descriptive information. EAD is currently administered and maintained jointly by the Society of American Archivists and the United States Library of Congress. While development was initiated in the United Stares, international interest and contribution are increasing. EAD is a encoding standard designed specifically for marking up information contained in archival finding aids. From its inception, EAD was based on SGML, and, with the release of EAD version 1.0 in 1998, it is also compliant with XML in order to facilitate easier internet access to SGML-encoded finding aids. EAD is the first tool to preserve the multilevel and hierarchical description manifest in finding aids by providing structures in which to describe entire record collections and increasingly smaller subcomponents thereof such as series, subseries, folders, and even items. Archival institutions can form a EAD consortium and also create a union database of EAD finding aids for the geographically dispersed collections. The EAD DTD provides a flexible way for archives to convert finding aids that exist in paper form into electronic documents or to create new finding aids in electronic form.
