Affecting Factors on Self-Efficacy of Walking Exercise in Working Men (직장인의 걷기운동에 대한 자기효능감에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the affecting factors on self-efficacy of walking exercise. The subjects were 413 working men. Whose data and material were collected through an organized questionnaire from October, 1999 to May 2000. The major results of this were as follows; 1. 61.1% of the subjects' major affecting factor was deep sleep, 65.0% of the subjects' majo affecting facto was regular physical screening, 51.1% of the subjects' regular exercise, 18.7% of the subjects' walking exercise. 2. stages of change related to walking exercise of the subjects were as follows, 15.8% of the subjects were in the precontemplation stage, 51.1% of the subjects were in the precontemplation stage. 3. The average self-efficacy concerning walking exercise was 3.16 points. 4. With stepwise multiple regression, the most significant factor on self-efficacy related to walking exercise in stages of change was the preparation stage. According to the results of this study, a concrete practice program is needed to promote self-efficacy related walking exercise.

The Effects of Exercise Intervention Program Based on the Stage of Change on Obese Children in Elementary School (초등학교 비만아동을 대상으로 행위변화단계를 적용한 운동중재 프로그램의 효과)

  • Purpose : This study was designed to apply a "stage of change" exercise intervention program to obese children in elementary school and to examine its effects on their BMI. stage of change. process . and self-efficacy in exercise. Methods : The experimental group included 64 children in the fourth . fifth and sixth grades. from one elementary school. whose BMI was in the H5th percentile or more for their age groups. The control group had 6 1 students from a different one elementary school whose conditions were the same as those of the experimental group. Results: After the stage of change exercise intervention was applied, the BMI of the experimental group decreased by a significant enough degree to conclude that the program was effective in decreasing BMI. After the application of the program. the experimental group experienced a significant increase in their helping relationships. counter-conditioning . reinforcement management and stimulus control compared 10 the control group. After the program. self-efficacy in terms of exercise increased significantly in the experimental group. Conclusion: A stages of change exercise intervention program has been shown to engage individual students and encourage them 10 maintain a higher fitness level that promote s self-efficacy in exercise and therefore moves them towards healthier lifestyles. Moreover. the study proved that a significant reduction of BMI was achieved by the stages of change exercise intervention program.

Process of Change, Decisional Balance and Self Efficacy Corresponding to Stages of Change in Exercise Behaviors in Middle Aged Women (중년여성의 운동행동변화단계에 따른 변화과정, 의사결정균형 및 자기효능감)

  • Purpose: The study was performed to identify the process of change, decisional balance and self-efficacy corresponding to the stage of exercise behavior change based on a Transtheoretical Model in middle aged women. Method: The subjects consisted of 317 women by convenience sampling residing in city B. The collected data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, and Discriminant analysis by SPSS/WIN program. Result: The subjects were distributed in each stage of change of exercise behaviors: 53 subjects (16.7%) in the precontemplation stage, 86 subjects (27.1%) in the contemplation stage, 88 subjects (27.8%) in the preparation stage, 51 subjects (16.1%) in the action stage and 39 subjects(12.3%) in the maintenance stage. Analysis of variance showed that consciousness raising (F=24.96, p=.00), environmental reevaluation (F=7.l3, p=.00), self reevaluation (F=19.47, p=.00), dramatic relief (F=15.22, p=.00), social liberation (F=4.26, p=.00), counter conditioning (F=26.44, p=.00), a helping relationship (F=13.l7, p=.00), reinforcement management (F=21.25, p=.00), self liberation (F=27.70, p=.00), stimulus control (F=13.49, p=.00), pros (F=14.40, p=.00) and self-efficacy (F=39.9l, p=.00) were significantly associated with the stages of change of exercise behaviors. Through discriminant analysis, it was found that ‘stimulus control’ was the most influential variable in discriminating the five stages of change. Conclusion: This study can provide the basis of a staged matching exercise program using TTM for more effective and useful intervention.

Influence of exercise self efficacy and perceived health status according to the stage of change for exercise behaviors in older adults (운동행동 변화단계에 따른 노인의 운동 자기효능감과 지각된 건강상태 수준 변화)

  • The purpose of this study was to verify whether there are any differences in the level of exercise self-efficacy and perceived health status according to the stage of change for exercise behaviors in older adults. The subjects consisted of 231 older adults (91 male, 140 female) by convenience sampling residing in city D. The collected dates were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, Tukey HSD, and simple regression analysis by SPSS WIN 21.0 program. Moreover, all statistical significance level was set at a=.05. The study results were as follows: Analysis of variance showed that exercise self-efficacy showed significant differences according to the stage of change for exercise behaviors, and as a result of the posthoc analysis, it was found that as the stage became higher, their exercise self-efficacy became higher as well. Perceived health status showed significant differences according to the stage of change for exercise behaviors, and as a result of the posthoc analysis, it was found that as the stage became higher, their perceived health status became higher as well. Analysis of variance showed that exercise self-efficacy and perceived health status were significantly associated with the stages of exercise behavior change. This study identified that exercise self-efficacy and perceived health status were significant variables to explain a possible relationship with exercise stages of older adults. This study provides new information to influence the development of the better health promotion and exercise intervention for older adults in the community.

Changes of the Level of Physical Self-Efficacy, Depression and Stress of Middle-Aged Men According to the Stage of Exercise Change (중년기 남성의 운동변화단계에 따른 신체적 자기효능감과 우울 및 스트레스 수준 변화)

  • The purpose of this study was to verify whether there are any differences in the level of physical self-efficacy, depression and stress of meddle-aged men according to the stage of exercise change. As for the study objects, men at the ages between 40 and 50, residing in Seoul and mostly having temporary jobs, office jobs and professional jobs, were surveyed with the questionnaire prepared, and 299 copies of the questionnaire in total were collected and used for the final analysis. SPSS 12.0 was used for the processing of the data, while the results were deduced by using exploratory analysis, reliability analysis, 1-way ANOVA and correlation analysis. The study results were as follows: Firstly, their Physical self-efficacy showed significant differences according to the stage of exercise change of the study objects, and as a result of the post-hoc analysis, it was found that as the stage became higher, their physical self-efficacy became higher as well. Secondly, the level of depression showed significant differences according to the stage of exercise change of the study objects, and as a result of the post-hoc analysis, it was found that as the stage generally became higher, their depression showed lower levels. Thirdly, their stress showed significant differences according to the stage of exercise change of the study objects, and as a result of the post-hoc analysis, it was found that the preparation stage had a lower level of stress than the maintenance stage while the before-plan stage had a lower level of stress than the before-plan stage and the maintenance stage. Fourthly, it was found that as the stage of exercise change became higher, their stress tended to decrease while their self-efficacy tended to increase.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop an exercise intervention program based on stage of exercise using the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Method : A methodological research design was used to develop the exercise intervention program based on stage of exercise using TTM. Result: The exercise intervention program consisted of theoretical background and goals of program, assessment tool for stage of change, and an exercise intervention program based on stage of exercise. Details for the exercise and a glossary are included, Conclusion : The exercise intervention based stage of exercise can apply for DM patients who are in any stages properly.

Nutrition Knowledge, Dietary Self-Efficacy and Eating Habits According to Student's Stage of Regular Breakfast or Exercise (청소년의 아침식사와 운동 행동변화단계에 따른 영양지식, 식이자기효능감과 식습관)

  • This study has been performed to analyze nutrition knowledge, dietary self-efficacy and eating habits of the elementary- and middle- school students (n = 342) according to student's stage of regular breakfast or exercise. Middle school students had higher nutrition knowledge than primary school students. Total dietary self-efficacy and dietary habit scores were not different by school year and gender. Nutrition knowledge, dietary self-efficacy and dietary habit scores were positively correlated each other. By the stage of regular breakfast, the pre-contemplation stage comprised 13.6%, contemplation 2.1%, preparation 15.7%, action 11.5% and maintenance stage 59.1%. By the stage of regular exercise, the pre-contemplation stage comprised 20.9%, contemplation 7.3%, preparation 45.6%, action 9.8% and maintenance stage 16.4%. According to the stage of change, movement from the pre-contemplation and contemplation to upper stage increased the dietary self-efficacy score. Dietary habit score increased significantly across the five stages of changes. The results of this study indicate differences in stages of changes in breakfast intake and regular exercise and indicate the need for taking these phases of change into account in nutrition education.

The Relationship between Physical Activity Function and the Stages of Self-Change for Exercise in a Rural Aged People (일부 농촌 노인의 신체활동기능과 운동행위 변화단계의 관련성)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between physical activity function and stages of self-change for exercise in the aged of a farming village. The object of this research was to make with the basic data for the exercise program for the aged of rural area. Methods: This study was a volunteer sample of 612 persons, 60 years and above, who were living at the 2 farming villages, in 2005 July. This instruments were analyzed using frequency analysis and descriptive statistics, multiple regression analysis. Results: The distribution of stages of self-change of the research object person showed that the pre-contemplation stage was most with 57.2%, and the contemplation stage : 8.1%, the preparation stage : 2.2%, the action stage : 22.5%, the maintenance stage : 10.0%. The person who having good physical function state and advanced stages of self-change of exercise were higher in the ratio of the educational level and the income level. Factors for physical function were effected by the aging and the woman negatively. Conclusion: Physical function scores were highly correlated with stages of self-change for exercise. So it will be helpful that the program which designed by one's physical function and stage of self-change for exercise would applied the one.

The Study on the Effect of Stage Based Exercise Motivational Intervention Program for the Elderly (운동행위변화단계에 근거한 노인 운동 동기화 중재프로그램의 효과에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims at confirming exercise effects on obesity, mobility, self-efficacy, process of change, and decisional component by stage based exercise motivational intervention program for the elderly. The stage based exercise intervention program was constructed based on Transtheoretical Model. Methods: The design of this study is nonequivalent control group with repeated measuring by quasi-experimental study. The subjects of this study, composing of experimental group of 32 and control group of 28 were selected at one institution for the aged in Seoul. Results: 1) The body fat (weight, BMI and circumference of waist), of the intervention group was significantly decreased than the control group. 2) The mobility of the intervention group was not significantly increased than control group. 3) The self-efficacy, Pros, Process of Change for exercise of the intervention group was not significantly increased than the control group. 4) The Cons for exercise of intervention group was not significantly decreased than the control group. Conclusion: The above result have informed us that a stage-based exercise motivational intervention program for the elderly has the effect of decreasing old persons' body fat and has value as an effective means of nursing for the elderly.

Analysis of the Exercise Behavior of Early Adulthood : an Application of Transtheoretical Model(TTM) (범이론적 모형에 근거한 성인의 운동실천행위 분석)

  • This study examined the applicability of the transtheoretical model(TTM) to understanding exercise behavior of early adulthood. A cross-sectional study was conducted and data wee collected from 1618 adults aged from 20 to 39 through internet survey. Major conclusions wee as follows: 1. Stage distribution for exercise behavior was 15.6%, 26%, 25%, 19%, 14.4% for precentemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance stages, respectively. 2. Behavioral processes were more frequently utilized than cognitive processes for action and maintenance stage. 3. Self-reevaluation, social liberation and reinforcement were frequently used in precontemplation, contemplation and preparation stages. Self-reevaluation, reinforcement, self-liberation were frequently used in action and maintenance stages. 4. Pros of exercise behavior began to be higher than cons of exercise behavior from the actions stage and continued to increase to maintenance stage. 5. Self-efficacy was higher in action stage than precontemplation, contemplation and preparation stages and the highest in maintenance stage.
