  • Recently, the concept of structural design against instability has been proposed in the chassis parts. The design considerations of lower control arm of chassis parts under the buckling and durability strengths are the general. More precisely, this paper considers a specific application and associated optimization problem for two strengths, where the design variables are the physical or geometric dimensions for skins and stiffeners. The objective is the minimization of the total weight, while optimization constrains involve reserve or improve factors for the buckling and durability strengths. The most important features are related to the numerical simulations for the estimation of buckling factor and their sensitivities by means of nonlinear and linear finite element analyses. The bucking and durability strength analyses, and the morping geometries are directly included in the optimization problem and the modified design is formulated. As a result, the optimal structure with stable behavior is obtained or increases the buckling and durability strengths of parts. Most of design problems for structures exposed to elastic instability can be formulated and solved.

  • As consciousness of safety becomes an important social issue, the demand for protective clothing is increasing. Conventional flame-retardant cotton working wear has low durability, and working wear with m-aramid fibers are stiff, heavy, less permeable, and expensive. In this study, recycled m-aramid and cotton have been blended to produce woven fabric of different compositions to enhance high performance and comfort to solve aforementioned problems. The fabrics were analyzed according to constituents and various structural factors. Mechanical properties were measured using KES-FB system. The measured thermal properties are TGA, $Q_{max}$, TPP and RPP. Fabric with polyurethane yarn covered by m-aramid/cotton spun yarn is observed to have good wearability. The fabric of open end spun yarn showed more stiffness than that of ring spun yarn. The sample with the high count of yarn has more smooth surface. In addition, high m-aramid content fabric is considered to have relatively high stiffness when using as clothing. In TGA the fabric with higher m-aramid content showed more stable decomposition behavior. The fabric having rough surface showed lower heat transfer properties in $Q_{max}$. The influence of the fabric thickness was important in convection and radiant heat test.

  • The precast-buckling restrained braces(PC-BRB) reinforced with engineering plastics that can compensate for the disadvantages in the manufacturing process of the existing buckling restrained brace. In this study, to examine the applicability of PC-BRB to actual structures, example structures similar to school facilities were selected and the reinforcement effect was analyzed analytically according to the damping design procedure of PC-BRB. Load-displacement curve through the incremental loading test appeared similar to the bilinear curve. Applying test result, Analytical model of PC-BRB model was constructed and applied to the example structure. As a result of the analysis, the PC-BRB showed stable hysteresis behavior without lowering the strength, and the inter story drift ratio and the shear force were reduced due to the damping effect. In addition, the reduction ratio of the shear force was similar to the reduction ratio assumed when designing the damping device.

  • In this study, an incremental loading test of the HRS(Hybrid Rubber Slit) damper was additionally performed to define the physical characteristics according to the incremental test results, and an analytical study was performed according to the damping design procedure by selecting an example structure. As a result of performing seismic performance evaluation before reinforcement by selecting a RC structure similar to an actual school structure as an example structure, the story drift ratio was satisfied, but some column members collapsed due to bending deformation. In order to secure the seismic performance, the damping design procedure of the HRS damper was presented and performed. As a result of calculating the amount of damping device according to the expected damping ratio and applying it to the example structure, the hysteresis behavior was stable without decrease in strength, and the story drift ratio and the shear force were reduced according to the damping effect. Finally the column members that had collapsed before reinforcement satisfied the LS Level.

  • The buckling-restrained braced frames with eccentric configurations (BRBF-Es) exhibit stable cyclic behavior and possess a high energy absorption capacity. Additionally, they offer architectural advantages for incorporating openings, much like Eccentrically Braced Frames (EBFs). However, studies have indicated that significant residual drifts occur in this system when subjected to earthquakes at the Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCE) hazard level. Consequently, in order to mitigate these residual drifts, it is recommended to employ self-centering systems alongside the BRBF-E system. In our current research, we propose the utilization of the Direct Displacement-Based Seismic Design method to determine the design base shear for a hybrid system that combines BRBF with an eccentric configuration and a self-centering frame. Furthermore, we present a methodology for designing the individual components of this composite system. To assess the effectiveness of this design approach, we designed 3-, 6-, and 9-story buildings equipped with the BRBF-E-SCF system and developed finite element models. These models were subjected to two sets of ground motions representing the Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCE) and Design Basis Earthquake (DBE) seismic hazard levels. The results of our study reveal that although the combined system requires a higher amount of steel material compared to the BRBF-E system, it substantially reduces residual drift. Furthermore, the combined system demonstrates satisfactory performance in terms of story drift and ductility demand.

  • In this study, eleven reinforced concrete beams, ground granulated blast furnace slag, replacing recycled coarse aggregate (BRS series) and recycled coarse aggregate with steel fiber (BSRS series), and standard specimen (BSS) were constructed and tested under monotonic loading. Experimental programs were carried out to improve and evaluate the shear performance of such test specimens, such as the load-displacement, the failure mode and the maximum load carrying capacity. All the specimens were modeled in 1/2 scale-down size. Test results showed that test specimens (BSRS Series) was increased the compressive strength by 9%, the maximum load carrying capacity by 1~6% and the ductility capacity by 1.02~1.13 times in comparison with the standard specimen (BSS). And the specimens (BSRS Series) showed enough ductile behavior and stable flexural failure.

  • In this study the progressive collapse potential of braced frames were investigated using the nonlinear static and dynamic analyses. All of nine different brace types were considered along with a special moment-resisting frame for comparison. According to the pushdown analysis results, most braced frames designed per current design codes satisfied the design guidelines for progressive collapse initiated by loss of a first story mid-column; however most model structures showed brittle failure mode. This was caused by buckling of columns after compressive braces buckled. Among the braced frames considered, the inverted- V type braced frames showed superior ductile behavior during progressive collapse. The nonlinear dynamic analysis results showed that all the braced frame model structures remained in stable condition after sudden removal of a column, and their deflections were less than that of the moment-resisting frame.

  • In this study, we propose a new three-node hybrid-mixed curved beam element with the relaxed-equiribrium stress functions for static analysis. The proposed element considering shear deformation is based on the Hellinger-Reissner variational principle. The stress functions are carefully chosen from three important considerations: (i) all the kinematic deformation modes must be suppressed, and (ii) the spurious constraints must be removed in the limiting behaviors via the field-consistency, and (iii) the relaxed equilibrium conditions could be incorporated because it might be impossible to select the stress functions and parameters to fully satisfy both the equiribrium conditions and the suppression of kinematic deformation modes in the three-node curved beam hybrid-mixed formulation. Numerical examples confirm the superior and stable behavior of the proposed element regardless of slenderness ratio and curvature. Besides, the proposed element shows the outstanding performance in predicting the stress resultant distributions.

  • This paper presents some research results on the shrinkage characteristics and frost resistance before and after cracking of FR-ECC(Fire Resistance-Engineered Cementitious Composite). Also, a waterstop performance and exfoliating resistance of multi-layer lining specimens using FR-ECC and flexural performance of beam member by repaired FR-ECC are estimated in this paper. Experimental results indicate that the plastic shrinkage crack and length change ratio of FR-ECC have been reduced as compared with that of the existing repair mortar, and that its crack resistance on the dry shrinkage is improved under the confining stress. As well as FR-ECC has been great in the frost resistance and its tensile properties under the cracked state have been not reduced by freezing and thawing reaction. In addition, beam member by repaired FR-ECC have been increased in the flexural properties such as initial crack moment, yeild moment, and its crack width has been controled in a stable by the frexural failure.

  • The aim of this paper is a seismic performance evaluation of metallic damper devices which are efficient in workability and installation process. For this V shape and S shape dampers is considered. The strut figures of dampers are V shape and S shape and, the research parameters are strut height and angle of the dampers. ABAQUS program is used for nonlinear finite element analysis. The analysis is performed with the hysteretic curve that has maximum displacement with 50mm and has increased progressive. As a results of evaluating the yield strength, maximum strength and energy dissipation capacity of each device, V and S shape have a good strength capacity and the devices with strut angle $60^{\circ}$ and strut height 140 and 200mm are evaluated stable in seismic behaviors. The response of S shape is more efficient than that of V shape. In the yield strength estimation process, proposed formula can not estimate the yield strength of V and S shape dampers. Even though, the formula can not consider the variation of strut heights and strut angles. Finally the S shape damper is recommended in seismic performance than V shape damper.
