Stability Analysis of Cracked Beams with Subtangential Follower Force and Tip Mass (경사 종동력과 끝질량을 갖는 크랙 보의 안정성 해석)

  • In this paper, the purpose is to investigate the stability and variation of natural frequency of a cracked cantilever beams subjected to follower force and tip mass. In addition, an analysis of the flutter instability(flutter critical follower force) of a cracked cantilever beam as slenderness ratio and crack severity is investigated. The governing differential equations of a Timoshenko beam subjected to an end tangential follower force is derived via Hamilton's principle. The two coupled governing differential equations are reduced to one fourth order ordinary differential equation in terms of the flexural displacement. Finally, the influence of the slenderness ratio and crack severity on the critical follower force, stability and the natural frequency of a beam are investigated.

Study of structural parameters on the aerodynamic stability of three-tower suspension bridge

  • In comparison with the common two-tower suspension bridge, due to the lack of effective longitudinal restraint of the center tower, the three-tower suspension bridge becomes a structural system with greater flexibility, and more susceptible to the wind action. By taking a three-tower suspension bridge-the Taizhou Bridge over the Yangtze River with two main spans of 1080 m as example, effects of structural parameters including the cable sag to span ratio, the side to main span ratio, the deck's dead load, the deck's bearing system, longitudinal structural form of the center tower and the cable system on the aerodynamic stability of the bridge are investigated numerically by 3D nonlinear aerodynamic stability analysis, the favorable structural system of three-tower suspension bridge with good wind stability is discussed. The results show that good aerodynamic stability can be obtained for three-tower suspension bridge as the cable sag to span ratio is assumed ranging from 1/10 to 1/11, the central buckle are provided between main cables and the deck at midpoint of main spans, the longitudinal bending stiffness of the center tower is strengthened, and the spatial cable system or double cable system is employed.

Evaluation of Stability of CLC through Strength and Reduction of Drying Shrinkage (강도 및 건조수축 저감을 통한 CLC의 안정성 평가)

  • This study intends to conduct tests on subsidence and drying shrinkage by mixing CaO-CSA expansion materials to ensure the stability of CLC, and to understand its properties. Based on CLC of 0.6, the replacement ratio of CaO-CSA expansion material was conducted at five levels compared to blast furnace slag, and the results are as follows. The replacement of CaO-CSA expansion material at an appropriate level produces ethringhite and potassium hydroxide, and it is believed that the internal voids of CLC and the Tobelmorite interlayer structure are charged to increase the structural stability, leading to an increase in compressive strength and a decrease in the drying shrinkage. However, it is judged that tissue relaxation due to excessive substances in the high replacement ratio affects the stability of CLC. In the future, we will conduct additional experiments on density, absorption rate, flow test, and settlement, and evaluate and analyze the stability of CLC by selecting the optimal replacement ratio of CaO-CSA expansion materials.

Issues and Analyses on Management Situations of Environment-Friendly Agricultural Organizations (친환경농업 생산자조직의 경영실태 분석과 시사점)

  • This study analyzed the management situation of two organizations that have produced environmentally friendly agricultural and livestock products. One organization sells and processes environmentally friendly agricultural products like as grains, vegetables, fruits and processing foods. Another organization processes and sells environmentally friendly livestock products, specially beef products. Indices of management analysis are stability ratio, activity ratio and profitability ratio. Stability ratio indices are debt ratio, net worth ratio, fixed ratio and current ratio. Activity ratio ones include fixed assets turnover and net worth turnover. And profitability ratio is showed through return on investment, net return on sales and return on equity.

  • This study analyzed management situations of two organizations that have produced environment-friendly agricultural and processed meat products. 'A' farming corporation sells environment-friendly agricultural products like as grains, vegetables, fruits and processing foods. 'B' agricultural corporation processes and sells environment-friendly processed meat products, specially organic and antibiotic-free beef products. Recently, members and production areas of 'A' farming corporation have decreased because of their aging and labor shortage. And Indices for the management analysis are stability ratio, activity ratio and profitability ratio. Stability ratio indices are debt ratio, net worth ratio, fixed ratio and current ratio. Influence of the Business Portfolio Diversification on Construction Companies' Financial Stability (건설업체 사업 포트폴리오 다각화에 따른 건설업체 안정성 분석)

  • The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between the degree of business diversification of a construction company and two of the indicators that represent financial stability, namely, a current ratio and a debt ratio, in order to draw policy implications. The current ratio and the debt ratio were used as variables that represent financial stability of a construction company. Berry-Herfindahl Index was used to measure the degree of business portfolio diversification of a construction company. For the analysis, quarterly time series data were retrieved from the financial information disclosure system of Korea's Financial Supervisory Service for the period between the first quarter of 2001 and the third quarter of 2013. The analysis results showed that a higher current ratio and a debt ratio led to a greater extent of business diversification. A higher level of business diversification led to a higher current ratio and a lower debt ratio. It was also shown that the impact of business diversification on the current ratio and the debt ratio outweighed the impact of changes in the current ratio and the debt ratio on business diversification. Meanwhile, an increase in the level of business diversification showed a quite positive effect as it raised the current ratio and lowered the debt ratio of a construction company. These findings suggest that diversification of business portfolio is essential for construction companies to strengthen their financial stability.

A Study on Course Stability in Accordance with Configuration of Ships (선형에 따른 선박의 침로 안정성에 관한 연구)

  • Ship's maneuverability is very important factor in safe ship handling and economical ship operation. Steering characteristics are consisted of course stability and maneuverability. Today in many advanced ship-building countries, they study ship's course stability, using model ship tests, such as straight line tests, rotating arm tests and Planar Motion Mechanism (PMM) etc., in tow in tanks. It is the purpose of this paper to provide ship's handlers with better understanding of steering characteristics and to help them in safe controlling and manevering . In this paper, the author simulated response of various vessels, running straight course with constant speed, and they are disturbed by small external disturbance of one degree yaw angle with no angular velocity . The author used the hydrodynamic derivtives resulted at tests of Davidson's laboratory in Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey, U.S.A. Course stability was evaluated and analyzed in various respects, such as block coefficient, ratio of ship's length to beam, draft and rudder area ratio etc. The obtained results are as follows : (1) The ship's course stability is affected by magnitude of block coefficient greatly. In case that the block coefficient is more than 0.7, the deviation varies at nearly same rate but the requistite time to reach the steady course is different. (2) The ship's course stability is affected by magnitude of L/B. When the dimensionless time reaches about 3, the deviation and requisite time to reach the steady course are influenced nearly same. After the dimensionless time is about 3, they change on invariable ratio. (3) The effect to course stability by L/T and RA' can be neglected. (4) The reason why thy VLCC and container feeder vessel are unstable on their course is that their block coefficient is generally more than 0.8 and the ratio of ship's length to beam is about 6.0.

A Study of the Changes in Dress Wearers' Images in Relationto the Changes in the Size and Area Ratio of Polka Dots Relative to Coloration (색상대비 물방울무늬의 크기와 면적비 변화에 따른 원피스 드레스 착용자의 이미지 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of dot pattern size(0.8, 1.8, 2.5, 5, 8), color combination(BG/R, Y/B), area-ratio on image formation. Sets of stimulus and response scales(7 point semantic) were used as experimental materials. The stimuli were 20 color pictures manipulated with the combination of dot pattern size, color combination, and area-ratio using computer simulation. The subjects were 240 female undergraduates living in Gyeongnam-do. Image factor of the stimulus was composed of 5 different components, visibility, attractiveness, cuteness, stability and high class image. In the cuteness, color combination, dot pattern size showed independent effect. In the stability, area-ratio, dot pattern size showed independent effect. Interaction effects of color and area-ratio combination was significant on cuteness. For visibility image 8cm yellow dot/blue background, for attractiveness image BG/R coloration, for cuteness image Y/B coloration and for stability image 0.8cm yellow dot/blue background were effective. According to the variation of dot pattern size, color combination and area-ratio, it was investigated that the images for a dress wearer were expressed diversely, were shown differently in image dimensions, and could be produced to different images.

  • The stability of diffusion flame formed behind a bluff body with fuel injection slits was experimentally investigated in various fuel injection angles, fuel injection ratios, grids and extension ducts. The flame stability limits, temperature distributions and length of recirculation zones, direct photographs of flames were measured in order to discuss the stabilization mechanism of the diffusion flame. The results from this study are as follows. The fuel injection angle is an important factor in determining the flame stability. Stability limits can be improved by variety of the fuel injection ratio. When the grid and extension duct are set, stability characteristics are varied with the blockage ratios, grid intervals, and grid numbers. The recirculation zone not only serves as a steady ignition source of combustion stream but also governs the stabilization mechanism.

  • Results of theoretical investigations of the stability characteristics of an actively controlled externally pressurized air journal bearing are presented. Proportional control and derivative control are used for the control algorithm of active air bearing. The stability characteristics of the actively controlled bearing operating at zero steady-state eccentricity is investigated with the step jump method. The speed at onset of instability is raised for both proportional control and derivative control of bearing. Proportional control increased the stability threshold without affecting the whirl ratio. But for derivative control of bearing, stability threshold increase is accompanied by a parallel reduction of the whirl ratio. Results show active control of bearing can be adopted for the stability improvement of air journal bearing.
