During the period of 2002 to 2017, the Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment (GRACE) had observed time-varying gravity changes with unprecedented accuracy. The GRACE science data centers provide the monthly gravity solutions after removing the sub-monthly mass fluctuation using geophysical models. However, model misfit makes the solutions to be contaminated by aliasing errors, which exhibits peculiar north-south stripes. Two conventional filters are used to reduce the errors, but signals with similar spatial patterns to the errors are also removed during the filtering procedure. This would be particularly problematic for estimating the ice mass changes in Western Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) and Antarctic Peninsula (AP) due to their similar spatial pattern to the elongated north-south direction. In this study, we introduce an alternative filter to remove aliasing errors using the Empirical Orthogonal Functions (EOF) analysis. EOF can decompose data into different modes, and thus is useful to separate signals from noise. Therefore, the aliasing errors are effectively suppressed through EOF method. In particular, the month-to-month mass changes in WAIS and AP, which have been significantly contaminated by aliasing errors, can be recovered using EOF method.

An Estimation of VHF datalink range for EW(Electronic Warfare) equipment in the sea environment was studied to predict the datalink range between transmitting and receiving station. We consider refraction and reflection in addition to the basic radar equation. The reflection especially includes propagation factor in case of spherical earth as well as flat earth. The estimation result can predict the real datalink range within 5% error.

We developed a three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) code to reproduce the structure of a solar wind, the properties of a coronal mass ejection (CME) and the interaction between them. This MHD code is based on the finite volume method incorporating total variation diminishing (TVD) scheme with an unstructured grid system. In particular, this grid system can avoid the singularity at the north and south poles and relax tight CFL conditions around the poles, both of which would arise in a spherical coordinate system (Tanaka 1994). In this model, we first apply an MHD tomographic method (Hayashi et al. 2003) to interplanetary scintillation (IPS) observational data and derive a solar wind from the physical values obtained at 50 solar radii away from the Sun. By comparing the properties of this solar wind to observational data obtained near the Earth orbit, we confirmed that our model captures the velocity, temperature and density profiles of a solar wind near the Earth orbit. We then insert a spheromak-type CME (Kataoka et al. 2009) into the solar wind to reproduce an actual CME event. This has been done by introducing a time-dependent boundary condition to the inner boundary of our simulation domain. On the basis of a comparison between a simulated CME and observations near the Earth, we discuss the physics involved in an ICME interacting with a solar wind.

In this paper, an approach is developed for relative state estimation of satellite formation flying. To estimate relative states of two satellites, the Extended Kalman Filter Algorithm is adopted with the relative distance and speed between two satellites and attitude of satellite for measurements. Numerical simulations are conducted under two circumstances. The first one presents both chief and deputy satellites are orbiting a circular reference orbit around a perfectly spherical Earth model with no disturbing acceleration, in which the elementary relative orbital motion is taken into account. In reality, however, the Earth is not a perfect sphere, but rather an oblate spheroid, and both satellites are under the effect of $J_2$ geopotential disturbance, which causes the relative distance between two satellites to be on the gradual increase. A near-Earth orbit decays as a result of atmospheric drag. In order to remove the modeling error, the second scenario incorporates the effect of the $J_2$ geopotential force, and the atmospheric drag, and the eccentricity in satellite orbit are also considered.
Gravity characteristics and Moho undulations are investigated in the Korean peninsula by using satellite gravity data. According to the development of satellite geodesy, gravity potential models which have high accuracy and resolution were released. Using the EIGEN-CGOIC model based on low orbit satellite data such as CHAMP and GRACE, geoid and gravity anomaly were calculated by spherical harmonic analysis. The study area is located at $123^{\circ}\sim132^{\circ}E, 33^{\circ}\sim43^{\circ}$N including Korea. Free-air anomalies, which show the effect of terrain, have the values between $-37\sim724 mgal. After Bouguer correction, the range of simple Bouguer anomalies is $-221\sim246$ mgal. Complete Bouguer anomalies after terrain correction increase from continent to marine. This phenomenon is related rise of Moho discontinuity. The cut-frequency for extraction of Moho undulation was determined by power spectrum analysis, and then 3D inversion modeling was implemented. The mean, maximum, minimum, and standard deviation of Moho depth undulation are -26, -36, -8, and 4.9 krn, respectively.
To consider the practical use of a ship's Digital Compass in earth's magnetic field high accurate Deviation and 얘 nation are required to obtain ship's true bearing. Variation can be obtain with World Magnetic Model (WMM) using the Earth's spherical harmonic model of the main field and of the secular variation at any location around the earth. Deviation can be obtain with deviation analysis and synthesis method based on the Poisson equations. As results of deviation and variation corrections to the Digital Compass, high accurate true bearing is obtained. This experiments are carried out during in the navigation of training ship 'SAE-NU-RI'.
Geoid undulation and gravity anomaly were calculated from GRACE satellite data on the eastern Asia including Korean peninsula. Geoid undulation varies from -60m in the China to 60m toward the Pacific Ocean across the Korean Peninsula. Calculated gravity anomalies are in the range of -60 and 60 mgal except the subduction zone showing -100 mgal. High positive values are observed at Mt. Baekdu, Kaema highland and Taebaek mountains, and low values at Ulleung, Japan and Yamato basins in the East sea. We removed regional components below the spherical harmonic degree of 10 from gravity anomaly to get the residual anomaly for crust components. Residual gravity anomaly shows high anomalies at the northern mountainous area and Kyungsang basin in the Korean Peninsula. And low anomalies appears at the western Korea bay basin, Kunsan basin, Cheju basin, and Ulleung basin in the marine. Anomalies separated by the spherical harmonic degree as well as the residual anomalies are useful for the study of large crustal structure about geologic scale and depth distribution and for the survey of natural resources.
To calculate the position and velocity of the artificial satellite precisely, one has to build a mathematical model concerning the perturbations by understanding and analysing the space environment correctly and then quantifying. Due to these space environment model, the total acceleration of the artificial satellite can be expressed as the 2nd order differential equation and we build an orbit propagation algorithm by integrating twice this equation by using the Cowell's method which gives the position and velocity of the artificial satellite at any given time. Perturbations important for the orbits of geostationary spacecraft are the Earth's gravitational potential, the gravitational influences of the sun and moon, and the solar radiation pressure. For precise orbit propagation in Cowell' method, 40 x 40 spherical harmonic coefficients can be applied and the JPL DE403 ephemeris files were used to generate the range from earth to sun and moon and 8th order Runge-Kutta single step method with variable step-size control is used to integrate the the orbit propagation equations.

In this paper, we analyzed the communication distances in the flat and spherical earth model using the main specifications of the wireless communication device under development to be installed in the unmanned surface vehicle(USV). We installed the wireless communication device on the test ship and the actual communication test was performed in the South Sea of Korea, it compared the experimental result with the simulated results. If the installation altitude of the transmitting and receiving antennas is low, there is not the big difference between the two models. However, when the altitude of one of the two antennas is high, the spherical earth model has similar results to the experimental data. As the altitude of the antenna installation increases, fading occurs in a certain section. We expect that this fading can be overcome through antenna technologies such as space diversity.
The position of any point on the earth's surface can be. represented in the spherical coordinates by surface spherical harmonics. Since geomagnetic field is a function of position on the earth, it can be also expressed by spherical harmonic analysis as spherical harmonics of trigonometric series of $a_m({\theta})$ cos $m{\phi}$ and $b_m({\theta})$ sin $m{\phi}$. Coefficients of surface spherical harmonics, $a_m({\theta})$ and $b_m({\theta})$, can be drawn from the components of the geomagnetic field, declination and inclination, and vice versa. In this paper, components of geomagnetic field, declination and inclination in the Korean peninsula are obtained by spherical harmonic analysis using the Gauss coefficients calculated from the world-wide magnetic charts of 1960. These components correspond to the values of normal geomagnetic field having no disturbances of subsurface mass, structure, and so on. The vertical and total components offer the zero level for the interpretation of geomagnetic data obtained by magnetic measurement in the Korean peninsula. Using this zero level, magnetic anomaly map is obtained from the data of airborne magnetic. prospecting carried out during 1958 to 1960. The conclusions of this study are as follows; (1) The intensity of horizontal component of normal geomagnetic field in Korean peninsula ranges from $2{\times}10^4$ gammas to $2.45{\times}10^4$ gammas. It decreases about 500 with the increment of $1^{\circ}$ in latitude. Along the same. latitude, it increases 250 gammas with the increment of $1^{\circ}$ in longitude. (2) Intensity of vertical component ranges from $3.85{\times}10^4$ gammas to $5.15{\times}10^4$ gammas. It increases. about 1000 gammas with the increment of $1^{\circ}$ in latitude. Along the same latitude, it decreases. 150~240 gammas with the increment of $1^{\circ}$ in longitude. Decreasing rate is considerably larger in higher latitude than in lower latitude. (3) Total intensity ranges from $4.55{\times}10^4$ gammas to $5.15{\times}10^4$ gammas. It increases 600~700 gammas with the increament of $1^{\circ}$ in latitude. Along the same latitude, it decreases 10~90 gammas. with the increment of $1^{\circ}$ in longitude. Decreasing rate is considerably larger in higher latitude as the case of vertical component. (4) The declination ranges from $-3.8^{\circ}$ to $-11.5^{\circ}$. It increases $0.6^{\circ}$ with the increment of $1^{\circ}$ in latitude. Along the same latutude, it increases $0.6^{\circ}$ with the increment of l O in longitude. Unlike the cases of vertical and total component, the rate of change is considerably larger in lower latitude than in higher latitude. (5) The inclination ranges from $57.8^{\circ}$ to $66.8^{\circ}$. It increases about $1^{\circ}$ with 'the increment of $1^{\circ}$ in latitude Along the same latitude, it dereases $0.4^{\circ}$ with the increment of $1^{\circ}$ in longitude. (6) The Boundaries of 5 anomaly zones classified on the basis of the trend and shape of anomaly curves correspond to the geologic boundaries. (7) The trend of anomaly curves in each anomaly zone is closely related to the geologic structure developed in the corresponding zone. That is, it relates to the fault in the 3rd zone, the intrusion. of granite in the 1st and 5th zones, and mountains in the 2nd and 4th zones.
