For the frequency-domain spectral fatigue analysis, the probability density function of stress range needs to be estimated based on the stress spectrum only, which is a frequency domain representation of the response. The probability distribution of the stress range of the narrow-band spectrum is known to follow the Rayleigh distribution, however the PDF of wide-band spectrum is difficult to define with clarity due to the complicated fluctuation pattern of spectrum. In this paper, efforts have been made to figure out the links between the probability density function of stress range to the structural response of wide-band Gaussian random process. An artificial neural network scheme, known as one of the most powerful system identification methods, was used to identify the multivariate functional relationship between the idealized wide-band spectrums and resulting probability density functions. To achieve this, the spectrums were idealized as a superposition of two triangles with arbitrary location, height and width, targeting to comprise wide-band spectrum, and the probability density functions were represented by the linear combination of equally spaced Gaussian basis functions. To train the network under supervision, varieties of different wide-band spectrums were assumed and the converged probability density function of the stress range was derived using the rainflow counting method and all these data sets were fed into the three layer perceptron model. This nonlinear least square problem was solved using Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm with regularization term included. It was proven that the network trained using the given data set could reproduce the probability density function of arbitrary wide-band spectrum of two triangles with great success.

Unlike or common images, Hyperspectral images were taken by continuous electromagnetic spectral into numerous bands according to wavelengths and are high-capacity high-resolution images. It has more information than ordinary images, so it is used to explore objects and materials. To reduce the amount of information in hyper-spectral images to be processed, band selection is utilized. Existing band selection techniques are heuristic techniques based on statistics, which take a long time and often lack generality and universality. To compensate for this, this paper utilizes quantization concept to draw representative bands through Discrete Range, we use them for band selection algorithm. Experimental results showed that the proposed technique performed much faster than conventional band selection methods, and that the performance accuracy was similar to that of the original even though the number of bands was reduced by one-seventh to one-tenth.
Coarse clumping of solid materials within diseased biological cells can have a marked influence on the light scattering pattern. Perturbations in refractive index lead to distinct variations in the cytometric signature, especially apparent over wide scattering angles. The large dynamic range of scattering intensities restricts collection of data to narrow angular intervals believed to have the highest potential for medical diagnosis. We propose the use of an interference filter to reduce the dynamic range. Selective attenuation of scattering intensity levels is expected to allow simultaneous data collection over a wide angular interval. The calculated angular transmittance of a commercial shortwave-pass filter of cut-off wavelength 580 nm indicates significant attenuation of scattering peaks below ${\~}\;10^{circ}$, and reasonable peak equalization at higher angles. For the three-dimensional calculation of laser light scattered by cells we use a spectral method code that models cells as spatially varying dielectrics, stationary in time. However, we perform preliminary experimental testing with the interference filter on polystyrene microspheres instead of biological cells. A microfluidic toolkit is used for the manipulation of the microspheres. The paper intends to illustrate the principle of a light scattering detection system incorporating an interference filter for selective attenuation of scattering peaks.
We report a Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI)-based multi-channel micro-spectrometer used for multi-gas measurement in the spectral range of $3-5{\mu}m$ and its gas sensing performance. The fabricated infrared (IR) spectrometer consists of two parts: an FPI on the top side for selective IR filtering and a $V_2O_5$-based IR detector array on the bottom side for the detection of the filtered IR. Experimental results show that the FPI-based multi-channel gas sensor has reliability and selectivity for simultaneously detecting environmentally harmful gases such as $CH_4$, $CO_2$, $N_2O$ and CO in the spectral range of $3-5{\mu}m$. The fabricated FPI-based multi-channel gas sensor also demonstrated that a reliable and selective detection of gas concentrations ranging from 0 to 500 ppm is feasible. In addition, the electrical characteristics demonstrate a superior response performance in regards to the selectivity in the multi-target gases.

Shock and vibration inputs are transmitted from the transporting vehicle through the packaging box to the fruit. The vibration causes sustained bouncing of fruits against each other and the container wall. The steady state vibration input may cause serous fruit injury, and the damage is particularly severe if the fruits are bounced at its resonance frequency. The determination of the resonance frequencies of the fruits and vegetables may help the packaging designer to design the proper packaging system providing adequate protection of the fruits from external impact or shock. In this study, to analyze the vibration properties of the apples for optimum packaging design during transportation, the random vibration tests were carried out. From the results of random vibration test, the resonance frequency and power spectral density (PSD) of the packaged freight of apples in the test were in the range of 82 to 97 Hz and 0.0013 to 0.0021 $G^2/Hz$ respectively and the resonance frequency and PSD of the packaged apples were in the range of 13 to 71 Hz and 0.0143 to 0.0923 $G^2/Hz$ respectively.
In this paper, we propose a novel hearing aid algorithm for sensorinural hearing loss restoration with multi-channel(band) dynamic range compression and psychoacoustics. In this way, we can present a normal perception condition to the impaired listener. The proposed algorithm make loudness scaling function achieve proper loudness level, and analysis masking property for the signal will be perceived to impaired listener, and then, restore normal spectral contrast using SMR(signal-to-masking ratio) defined by distance between the level of each frequency and masking threshold.
Traditional structural dynamic analysis and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of large scale concrete civil structures rely on manufactured embedding transducers to obtain structural dynamic properties. However, the embedding of manufactured transducers is very expensive and low efficiency for signal acquisition. In dynamic structural analysis and SHM areas, piezoelectric transducers are more and more popular due to the advantages like quick response, low cost and adaptability to different sizes. In this paper, the applicable feasibility assessment of the designed "artificial" piezoelectric transducers called Concrete Piezoelectric Smart Module (CPSM) in dynamic structural analysis is performed via three major experiments. Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA) based on Ibrahim Time Domain (ITD) Method is applied to experimentally extract modal parameters. Numerical modal analysis by finite element method (FEM) modeling is also performed for comparison. First ten order modal parameters are identified by EMA using CPSMs, PCBs and FEM modeling. Comparisons are made between CPSMs and PCBs, between FEM and CPSMs extracted modal parameters. Results show that Power Spectral Density by CPSMs and PCBs are similar, CPSMs acquired signal amplitudes can be used to predict concrete compressive strength. Modal parameter (natural frequencies) identified from CPSMs acquired signal and PCBs acquired signal are different in a very small range (~3%), and extracted natural frequencies from CPSMs acquired signal and FEM results are in an allowable small range (~5%) as well. Therefore, CPSMs are applicable for signal acquisition of dynamic responses and can be used in dynamic modal analysis, structural health monitoring and related areas.

This study was conducted to measure the moisture content of powdered food using RF impedance spectroscopic method. In frequency range of 1.0 to 30㎒, the impedance such as reactance and resistance of parallel plate type sample holder filled with wheat flour and red-pepper powder of which moisture content range were 5.93∼-17.07%w.b. and 10.87 ∼ 27.36%w.b., respectively, was characterized using by Q-meter (HP4342). The reactance was a better parameter than the resistance in estimating the moisture density defined as product of moisture content and bulk density which was used to eliminate the effect of bulk density on RF spectral data in this study. Multivariate data analyses such as principal component regression, partial least square regression and multiple linear regression were performed to develop one calibration model having moisture density and reactance spectral data as parameters for determination of moisture content of both wheat flour and red-pepper powder. The best regression model was one by the multiple linear regression model. Its performance for unknown data of powdered food was showed that the bias, standard error of prediction and determination coefficient are 0.179% moisture content, 1.679% moisture content and 0.8849, respectively.
Using one of the absorption lines of $^{13}C_2H_2$ molecules near the zero dispersion wavelength(1549.49nm) of dispersion shifted fiber, we stabilized center frequency of an optical fiber Fabry-Perot filter. The free spectral range of the filter is 100 GHz for 100 GHz channel allocation. For equi-spaced three channel multiplexing, channel locking of three DFB-LDs to transmission peaks of the fiber Fabry-Perot filter was tried. To investigate the effect of dithering current applied to each DFB-LD, the change of DFB-LD linewidth was measured.
Design and fabrication of a TCRR (Triple-coupler Ring Resonator) filter which can provide a doubled FSR (Free Spectral Range) compared with a conventional DCRR (Double-coupler Ring Resonator) filter, are discussed. Through the use of a polymer material with a good thermo-optic property and with high contrast between core and cladding polymer, a compact TCRR filter composed of straight and curved buried waveguides of small radius is designed and fabricated. The transmission characteristics from the through and drop ports are measured using a tunable laser and a fiber array block, and the FSR is observed to be 4.4 nm, about twice that of DCRR filter, and almost the same as that obtained from the analysis using a transfer matrix method.
