  • In this paper, we evaluate and compare the performance of speech/music discrimination based on various feature parameters and classifiers. As for feature parameters, we consider High Zero Crossing Rate Ratio (HZCRR), Low Short Time Energy Ratio (LSTER), Spectral Flux (SF), Line Spectral Pair (LSP) distance, entropy and dynamism. We also examine three classifiers: k Nearest Neighbor (k-NN), Gaussian Mixure Model (GMM), and Hidden Markov Model (HMM). According to our experiments, LSP distance and phoneme-recognizer-based feature set (entropy and dunamism) show good performance, while performance differences due to different classifiers are not significant. When all the six feature parameters are employed, average speech/music discrimination accuracy up to 96.6% is achieved.

  • Dispersion characteristics of shielded single, coupled and edge-offset microstrip structures are investigated by using hybrid mode analysis with Galerkin's method in the spectral domain. Two new basis functions for the longitudinal strip current are proposed and convergence rates of the solutions for the basis functions are compared. Current distribution of the coupled line is obtaind from that of the single line by using shift theorem of the Fourier transform. In addition, effects of off-centered inner strip conductor on dispersion are also discussed Numerical results include various structual parameters and are compared with other available data and good agreements are observed.

  • To provide a quantitative parameter of evaluating diagnosis of the liver diseases accurately, the ultrasonic attenuation coefficient was estimated from liver phantoms, 15 normal human livers and 30 liver disease patients. Two kind of phantoms(No.1: 1552m/s, No.2: 1562m/s) which have velocity (1560m/s) similar to that in human liver were constructed and their ultrasonic attenuation coefficients were determined. In this paper the spectral-shift approach and spectral-difference approach were used for estimating ultrasonic attenuation coefficient, \ulcornerdB/Cm.MHz). These two approaches were utilized to esitmate for 15 normal humans without any liver disease and 30 liver disease patients. The results indicate that the two types of phantoms produce the value of near the suggested value of 0.5 and the attenuation coefficients of hepatoma, normal liver, corrhosis, fatty liver and hepatitis show decreasing value in order named, suggesting that the present study can be of clinical value incorrelating the estimated attenuation coefficidents with the liver diseases.

  • A finite-dimensional approximation technique is developed for a class of spectral systems with input and output operators which are unbounded. A corresponding bounding technique on the frequency-response error is also established for control system design. Our goal is to construct an uncertainty model including a nominal plant and its error bounds so that the results from robust linear control theory can be applied to guarantee a closed loop control performance. We demonstrate by numerical example that these techniques are applicable, with a modest computational burden, to a wide class of distributed parameter system plants.

  • EMG (eleltromyographic) signals are generated by contracting muscle and detected in and out side of muscle in the form of random signals. In the measurement of muscle fatigue, the mean frequency of EMG signals using spectrum analysis is an important parameter in diagonosis of muscle disease and in sports medicine fields. In this study, the degree of spectral transfer to lower frequency caused by accumulation of Latic acid inside the muscle is estimated. The new spectral analysis method using 2"d order hAaximum Entropy Method was applied to estimate the mean frequency and we confirmed that this new method yields fast and reliable estimation.tion.

  • We present a microscopic description for generation of 1/f noise in interfaces between cobalt thin film and silicon substrate. Along with surface resistance measurements and transmission electron diffraction observations. 1/f noise power spectral density has been measured for the interfacial structures at the liquid nitrogen temperature . The cobalt films have been deposited by the electron-beam evaporation technique onto p-type (100) silicon in the high vacuum condition. The measured noise power spectral density shows highest magnitude near the structural transition and metallization transition region. The noise magnitude rapidly decreased after the cobalt silicide nucleation. The noise parameter is concluded to be originated form the structural fluctuations.

  • For solving complex symmetric positive definite linear systems, we propose a single step real-valued (SSR) iterative method, which does not involve the complex arithmetic. The upper bound on the spectral radius of the iteration matrix of the SSR method is given and its convergence properties are analyzed. In addition, the quasi-optimal parameter which minimizes the upper bound for the spectral radius of the proposed method is computed. Finally, numerical experiments are given to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the propose methods.

  • Line observations of young stellar objects (YSOs) at (sub)millimeter wavelengths provide essential information of gas kinematics in star and planet forming environments. For Class 0 and I YSOs, identification of Keplerian rotation is of particular interest, because it reveals presence of rotationally-supported disks that are still being embedded in infalling envelopes and enables us to dynamically measure the protostellar mass. We have developed a python library SLAM (Spectral Line Analysis/Modeling) with a primary focus on analyses of emission line data at (sub)millimeter wavelengths. Here, we present an overview of the pvanalysis tool from SLAM, which is designed to identify Keplerian rotation of a disk and measure the dynamical mass of a central object using a position-velocity (PV) diagram of emission line data. The advantage of this tool is that it analyzes observational features of given data and thus requires few computational time and parameter assumptions, in contrast to detailed radiative transfer modelings. In this article, we introduce the basic concept and usage of this tool, present an application to observational data, and discuss remaining caveats.

  • This paper presents a method to determine the rolloff factors of both the digital terrestrial TV modulator and the bandpass filter (BPF) at the digital TV receiver input, using an analytical power spectral density model satisfying given co-channel and adjacent channel protection ratios for the digital terrestrial broadcasting services. Since the proposed method is very simple and effective to use, also can be used regardless of type of systems or modulation techniques, this method is expected to be applied to select some other digital terrestrial broadcasting system specifications.
